How naff are private plates?

I know... I'm a bit sad, but I have seen a set of car plates that are perfect for my name..and I want them. But I don't drive a porche or anything posh..just my dear little Panda 4x4....

I have my initials on mine, the old registration letters in the town I grew up in were my last two initials so pretty much every other car was personalised for me. My dad ended up with a plate with my initials on one car so just transferred the registration to me when he sold the car.
Our other car has my DH’s nickname which is also DS’s nickname so that will be handed onto him at some stage.
Now that all our local car parks need full registration for ticket machines it makes it so much easier.

DH got me a set as a wedding present with my old and new initials on and I love them!
It's something I use everyday rather than something that will sit in the draw unused.
DH had a set for his 21st birthday from his parents and he also love them.
We don't drive fancy cars but they're something unique that you use everyday and you can easily remember your reg!

Um ... I'm being dim. What does that read as?

RABBITS

Ah!!! Thank you, Dogsarehairy. I knew I must be being dim.

but they don't bother me, and I wouldn't bother starting a thread about them.

The OP started the thread because she’s thinking of getting some, not to slag them off.

And then she asked for people’s opinions - which people are duly sharing. It’s not like people give a huge amount of thought to them IRL - but we’ve been asked, and some people are saying they don’t like them.

If you do like them, then why does it matter if other people don’t?

I have a couple of sofas in my garden - but it doesn’t worry me that other people think they’re naff because ... why would it?

The defensive replies from some people are quite intriguing...

That doesn't look like a legal combination though 🤔

I live in farming countryside
Our milkman has W??? COW
A local farmer has ?? EGG, ?? HEN and ?? LAY

I find them amusing.

wifterwafter · 11/02/2021 20:45

Naff if your name is Mick and your plate is M1XKC so clearly trying to spell a name but incorrect so you might as well have BILL!

That said I love mine as it's my husbands initials and year of birth and my initials. To anyone else it doesn't look private but to us it's special. Eg. BA72 HJA

My other half loves and we have them on all of our vehicles (car/van/truck etc) he buys variations of the kids names. I don’t care e it her way, there’s one I’d like but I can’t afford a 15 plate car which id need to have it on 🤪
The security man at our local McDonald’s drive thru likes to think he knows my name because of the plate but it’s not my name, or even the name he thinks it is 🤷🏻‍♀️ It does mean we can’t do anything without anybody knowing because they know our plates!!!

DesdemonaDryEyes · 11/02/2021 20:57

Mine is my initials. Easy present one year.

Same for DD. Easy present with her initials which she is known by.

Some school mums once berated me saying that they always waved at me when driving but I didn’t reciprocate. They knew it was me by my number plate but how would I know which car they were driving 🤷‍♀️

My first name could easily be a plate but it’s far too expensive.

Am I thick? I don't get this one...
WhatsTheEffingPoint · 11/02/2021 21:16

DP has one, it's not obvious but it means something to him, oh and it's on a white van!

I do kinda want one for my car but haven't found one I like enough yet or willing to pay the ££££ some of them cost.

If you like it go for it. It's to please you and not everyone else.

Five67Eight · 11/02/2021 21:17

I don’t really get why people think the Rabbits one is so good. So people have changed letters to numbers to spell out a completely random word, that doesn’t even mean anything to them.

Unless maybe they’re a ... rabbit breeder or something...? Or at it like rabbits? Confused

A local oil firm has a fleet of vehicles all ending with the letters LUB Wink
