@Honeyroar

Ok here’s a few from my lovey dovey tape collections of the past...

Now the party’s over
I’m so tired
(80s)

Spinning on that dizzy edge
(80s)

You make me feel like I am fun again
(80s)

I always gave my best
Your memory serves you so badly
(80s)

You light the skies
Up above me
(2000s)

If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
(80s)

Bumping these.

Avalon has been got and Rule the world, but the others still stand.

Fleamaker123 · 15/02/2021 13:00

I always gave my best
Your memory serves you so badly
(80s)

Honey this is Level 42, Leaving me now

Honeyroar · 15/02/2021 13:01

✅ yes Flea. (Usually Midge gets the Level 42 ones and teases me!)

@Honeyroar your life sounds so very glamourous. - love hearing the stories.
I, on the other hand am a country bumpkin who went to university absolutely determined to get my degree and then travel widely. I was going do VSO. In my final year I met Mr Pantry during the Summer holiday. Ended up coming home and working and living in the same county I grew up in. I've done lots of holiday travelling but never lived abroad.

AJumpedUpPantryBoy · 15/02/2021 14:36

Something in me's stirring
And the moon and all the stars
Fail to comply
80s

You got clouds on your lids
and you'd be on the skids if it
Weren't for your job at the garage
80s

I had a dream of a forbidden world
Where even angels
Fear to look upon
A place where all of love is doomed to die
80s - not sure if this was a single or just an album track

the truth can't hurt you, it's just like the dark
It scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark
80s - loved this one. I remember playing it to death after a messy break up.

NeedToKnow101 · 15/02/2021 15:43

The song is Siren’s song, This Mortal Coil.

The story that goes with the song... I was 17. I was totally into this boy at college, we hung out all the time there, just as friends. Easter hols were coming up and I felt I’d literally die if I didn’t see him for two weeks - he lived the opposite side of London, I physically couldn’t bear to not see him.
So, on the last day of term I came out with it, told him I fancied him etc. Luckily for me, he told me he fancied me back. So we got together loads over Easter, had loads of fun —and great sex—. I was in love.

Then the first day back at college, he said go to the studio (we were doing art and had our own space). He left a Walkman, said ‘press play’, and a long letter written on A1 paper. I put the Walkman on, this beautiful song was on it and he’d written me the most amazing love letter. (Well looking back on it maybe he was just telling me how amazing I was and how deeply in love with me he was.. ) ... At the time though it gave me goosebumps all over, it was the first time I’d been in love and been loved back. First love. ❤️

That is so lovely 💕

Fleamaker123 · 15/02/2021 15:59

Aw that's lovely NeedToKnow101
What happened next? Did you stay together for a while?

I was never any success with boys, I was so shy as a teenager, I don't think I gave out the right signals 🤣

Honeyroar · 15/02/2021 16:00

That’s a lovely story Needtoknow. Were you with him long? I don’t know the song at all.

Pantry ive been lucky with some of the experiences I’ve had and places I’ve been. But I’m a country bumpkin at heart too. And even though I wouldn’t swap those times for anything, I envy you meeting your husband early, your children and your career, stable job (and pension!) etc. I feel like that I’m a bit lost at the moment and don’t know where I’m going. I’m just a collection of memories! I think I’m just feeling a little melancholy this week! But I’ll shut up because I’m starting to sound like that dreadful Charlene song from the 80s!! 🤣🤣

FlouncingBabooshka · 15/02/2021 16:12

@Honeyroar

Babooshka i bet your wedding was amazing. One of the nicest weddings I went to was in Italy while I was living there. My best friend and I (the one who died last year) plaited the local carpenter’s horse up and put flowers all over its mane and tail, then the carpenter drove her to a vineyard where they got married. Then they had a huge buffet and a fiddler band all night. It was gorgeous. It’s 30 years ago, yet stays in my memory more than any other wedding.

My cheating ex is still with the woman he ran off with, so it was probably worth it. He wasn’t right for me.

That sounds like a magical wedding Honey. I can just picture it - sounds like a scene from a film and it must be lovely to have such a beautiful, happy memory of your friend.

Not sure Rogue gave me the flinty eye because I asked if her theme was pre-known or if she’d had to give clues so people could guess it?

She seems awfully touchy today.

Is she drunk already?

AJumpedUpPantryBoy · 15/02/2021 16:16

@Honeyroar - I guess the grass is always greener. I'm very happy with my life but occasionally have a pang about what would have been if I hadn't met DH and come back home.
I do often stop and wonder about how I found myself here - this is not the life I envisaged for myself when I was 18.
It is far too staid and respectable Grin

Poor DH, when I am in one of those moods I will angrily declare that our lives/conversations are middle aged to which he always replies but we are middle aged

NeedToKnow101 · 15/02/2021 16:21

I was really shy too Flea, but my desperation for this boy made me bold!
We only stayed together about two years. We went to uni together then I just went off him. Funnily enough, partly due to musical differences. I was quite fickle in those days.

Sorry you're feeling melancholy Honey ❤️❤️ Try not to compare your life to others, it's really not helpful. I've made some really big mistakes in my life, if I dwelled on them I'd go nuts so I just block them out. Grin

MNerGoneRogueAgain · 15/02/2021 16:34

Honey, the wedding and the horse pics are both amazing. You had an incredible time there, didn't you!

do you speak Italian? I can't remember?

MNerGoneRogueAgain · 15/02/2021 16:36

Needtoknow:
And we've all kissed many fronts I'm sure... I definitely have

LMAO Grin Grin Grin

DEFINITELY tmi, darling!

Nice one, Britney!

MNerGoneRogueAgain · 15/02/2021 16:38

Honey

If you twist and turn... That's U2. Bad, I think?

And You make me feel is the Cure. Love Song.

2nd one is Blondie, Picture this

And the last one is Elvis Costello, I want you (love that track!)

MNerGoneRogueAgain · 15/02/2021 16:41

Oh!!!! And the first one is Jesus and Mary Chain.
Hang on, singing to the chorus.....

Oh no! It's not the chorus is it. Deep one perfect morning????? Something like that?

FlouncingBabooshka · 15/02/2021 16:42

@Honeyroar ❤️ 🌸 🧁❤️ I’m so sorry you’re feeling like that but I know exactly (well, not exactly of course but near enough to sympathise) how you feel. I get like it myself too often for comfort. I’m sure we all do, no matter what our particular situation. And no matter how much we may love our husbands, partners and children (those who have them - sadly, I don’t, which is my greatest regret - not regret, that implies it was a wrong decision I made - I suppose sadness rather than regret) it’s natural to look back on the past with a lot of ‘what ifs’ and ‘if onlys’ - especially when you get to 50ish and realise there’s a lot of things are no longer possible.

That may not have been very helpful! Goodness I feel like I need some chocolate now. None in the house. Feeling slightly panicky!

@NeedToKnow101 - I’ve just read your lovely story. It’s not cheesy - like Honey’s friend’s wedding it sounds like a scene from a film. Very romantic.

Honeyroar · 15/02/2021 16:43

Correct to both those Rogue. You must know the spinning one too.

Yes l speak Italian, albeit not so well nowadays.

I’m fine really Needtoknow. I like a lot about my life too. Think I’m just a bit tired and peri! Just had a lot of changes this last couple of years and sometimes it catches up! I’m missing flying a bit this week, which is annoying me. I think being furloughed so much this year makes me wallow a little!

MNerGoneRogueAgain · 15/02/2021 16:47

Needtoknow, that's a beautiful story and a gorgeous song. I hadn't heard it before. Very pretty. Hasn't she got absolutely amazing skin!

I assume that this lad isn't who you're with now? I hope it continued well, at least for a while.

MNerGoneRogueAgain · 15/02/2021 16:48

Me too, flea. I wasn't exactly shy (far too gobby), but low self confidence. And piss ugly didn't help!
MNerGoneRogueAgain · 15/02/2021 16:53

Honey, I think lots of people feel lost this year. It's been so crazy. In a way it's not helpful for you that so many of us on this thread are in jobs that require us to keep working throughout while you were handed a life-changing decision and then locked into a situation where you can't change it at the moment.

And I also think during lockdown there are times when it just does get tough and overwhelming.

You still have sooo much to offer (we're all very interested in coming to your mobile cafe once all this is over!). It's just you can't offer it right now.
It's ok to feel low. Especially when we can't reach out to friends or extended family like we normally would when we need a lift (or just a hug!).
Sending love x
