Why do some men do this?!?

I was walking to Sainsbury’s at about 8am this morning, just woken up, listening to a podcast, thinking about all the stuff I need to do at work today, when some man shouts ‘Smile love’ at me. I ignored and walked on, and then on my return trip (he seemed to just be hanging around) shouted ‘I said fucking smile’. What?! Why?

I’ll admit, I probably did look a bit miserable...... but I don’t grin inanely when waking down the street!

I’ve also had men (not today) shout various things in three street (about my appearance or how nice I look....) and one day I’d like to ask them what exactly they thing is going to happen next?

Why on earth do they do it?

I get this alot at work sat on the tills always by men doing there shopping, it really does make me feel intimidated and uncomfortable next time it happens I'm going to say "what a rude man you are" and leave it there, got to be careful or i could be reported wish I could tell them to fuck off, face masks have really helped as they haven't done it as much, dreading taking them off when things go bk to normal as I know the harassment starts again. Glad you told him to fuck off op.

I did confuse one once that did this. I was tired of being rude and having it turned back on me wtih name calling. When I got a 'smile love', I just turned and stared in wide eyed innocence at him. 'Why?' 'Just smile' 'But why?' 'Cos you'll look pretty when you smile' (or whatever similar shit he came out with), 'But... why does that matter?'

He got so frustrated he just walked off muttering But I didn't get called a bitch

Note: this probably worked better because I was a young looking 20 year old, rather than the pushing mid-30s grumpy faced old fuck I am now
