Wardrobes DH ICU

Just thought I’d create a new thread. To help us to keep track of what’s happened.

My DH was ventilated last week. We’ve had two calls to see him due to him being very close to death. He isn’t stable but he is still alive at the moment. All we can do is wait.

I’m not going to lie, I’m not coping at all. My mum has moved in to help me cope with daily life. We’ve spoken with the children and they know how serious it is. They are also struggling now with the youngest stepping back from schooling when she needs to.

I can’t think ahead. Just usually about the hour or two that we’re living in. It’s very surreal. And incredibly difficult. Doctors are very realistic about prognosis and survival, which is really hard to hear.

I am incredibly grateful for all the support we’ve had as a family. MN is a remarkable place at times.

@groovinpeanut - Flowers my heart goes out to you and your family and I’m so sorry for the loss of your DH, message me anytime X

@intheshadowofthemushroomcloud - Flowers for all your support and messages.

I have had several messages from other mnetters who don’t have their own threads but who are also experiencing this living hell Flowers it’s a horrible journey and we don’t know how it will end but all we can do is hope/pray for a better outcome.

I haven’t always had the energy to post, too fearful of jinxing things and generally the last few days have been very raw and intense. But I’ve read every message and I’m so grateful of the support.

KeziaOAP · 21/02/2021 19:32

So pleased to read update your DH is putting up such a fight.

Dodie66 · 21/02/2021 19:35

My daughter in law was sedated and had a tracheotomy after major heart surgery and she had delusions and talked nonsense. They said it was called hospital delirium and would wear off once she was off sedation and off the ventilator. It took a long time to wear off but she is fine now. Prayers for your DH and for your child in hospital too

SusannahSophia · 21/02/2021 19:44

So glad to hear slightly more positive news. Xx

Toasty280 · 21/02/2021 19:50

I’m so pleased to read these updates. I have been thinking about the wardrobe family often and hoping for good news.
I hope that little wardrobe is ok in hospital and that things are looking up for you soon. Come on Mr Wardrobe!

goingpearshaped · 21/02/2021 20:27

So happy to read this, MN are rooting for you all and Mr Wardrobes in particular. Sending love and positive vibes a plenty.

Docketpuo · 21/02/2021 20:28

How wonderful. So pleased to read your good news. Cuff up on trache = ventilator doing more work. Cuff down = your DH able to support his own breathing a bit more.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 21/02/2021 20:31

Thanks so much for the update, positive news, best wishes to you all

A post needing deletion on a thread like this Shock[red].

So grey to hear positive developments but I feel for Mr Wardrobes at thinking he's a young stud of 18 when in reality he's more than double. Poor chap.

Are you able to talk to him on the phone, Wardrobes, or did you get to visit him ?.

C0RAL · 21/02/2021 22:47

Another positive story to give you hope:

This fit 49 year old man was desperate ill with Covid , in a Coma for 50 days and on an EMCO machine. His family were told many times that he wouldn’t make it.

He was back at work by Christmas last year.

LemonySippet · 22/02/2021 00:04

Wardrobes i was on your thread near the start, it's so hard to read as I nearly lost my DH to cancer a year ago so hospitals are a bit triggering still, but I'm so so pleased to read a positive update and just wanted to send some Flowers and hand-holds and well-wishes for the days ahead. Your strength knows no bounds.

MustardMitt · 22/02/2021 00:56

Thinking of you Flowers. I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this.

Lostinwinter · 22/02/2021 07:19

So pleased to see your latest update Wadrobes. It is still a long bumpy way to go, but your update sounds really promising.

I hope you are looking after yourself as well as everyone else, you come across as so composed, but it must be awful for you.
