Wardrobes DH ICU

Just thought I’d create a new thread. To help us to keep track of what’s happened.

My DH was ventilated last week. We’ve had two calls to see him due to him being very close to death. He isn’t stable but he is still alive at the moment. All we can do is wait.

I’m not going to lie, I’m not coping at all. My mum has moved in to help me cope with daily life. We’ve spoken with the children and they know how serious it is. They are also struggling now with the youngest stepping back from schooling when she needs to.

I can’t think ahead. Just usually about the hour or two that we’re living in. It’s very surreal. And incredibly difficult. Doctors are very realistic about prognosis and survival, which is really hard to hear.

I am incredibly grateful for all the support we’ve had as a family. MN is a remarkable place at times.

@groovinpeanut - Flowers my heart goes out to you and your family and I’m so sorry for the loss of your DH, message me anytime X

@intheshadowofthemushroomcloud - Flowers for all your support and messages.

I have had several messages from other mnetters who don’t have their own threads but who are also experiencing this living hell Flowers it’s a horrible journey and we don’t know how it will end but all we can do is hope/pray for a better outcome.

I haven’t always had the energy to post, too fearful of jinxing things and generally the last few days have been very raw and intense. But I’ve read every message and I’m so grateful of the support.

Lots of healing vibes for your husband.

You poor thing, you are doing so well keeping going.

If I remember correctly, do you have your own business? Is it possible for you to pay someone to temporarily help out? Might be good to have one less thing to worry about.

Or if you are an employee could you get signed off sick for a bit?

Hugoslavia · 02/02/2021 08:31

Oh wardrobes, so sorry to hear of this latest development. It's never a linear journey and he's still in a better place than he was, but the set backs are understandably extremely anxiety inducing. This is such a tough time for you and your family. Unbelievably tough. I don't know how you are carrying on doing any work at all. I'm so sorry to also hear about your mother. Such a double whammy to have that additional worry and also lose your emotional support at a time when you need it most. I'm not surprised that you are beyond exhausted. My heart goes out to you. It truly does. Such extraordinarily tough times for you. You have been so strong and gracious. What a fantastic example of a mother and wife you are! Xx

Still handholding.

StrugglingICUnurse · 03/02/2021 23:24

Oh goodness you have so much to deal with! Fwiw your DHs "setback" seems relatively minor (in the ICU scheme of things) - give it time. Flowers

Wardrobes123 · 04/02/2021 02:31

Things aren’t good here. For various reasons the op wasn’t successful and other issues have arisen which makes his prognosis very bleak.

I’m taking each hour as it happens. That’s what we’ve been advised to do. They don’t expect him to recover, for many reasons, but not just his chest anymore.

I might step back a bit from this thread. I’ve had some lovely messages that I haven’t felt strong enough to respond to. I’m very sorry.
