How to keep a hat on at night?

Woke up again with a colder than freezing cold draught over my head. I start the night wearing a beanie, I have a pillow upright against the end of the bed but I always wake with a cold head and my hat keeping the pillow warm. Is there a trick? A better suited style of hat?

Could you adjust the balaclava pattern?

I mean, you wouldn't want the ear holes, would you?

QueenPawPaws · 08/01/2021 07:45

A buff? Lots of curly girls use those to sleep overnight

inquietant · 08/01/2021 07:46

What would happen if you said 'please can we shut the window tonight'?

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 08/01/2021 07:48

Sew a ribbon onto either side of the bar and tie under your chin - this isn't dangerous for adults, it's how people used to wear bedcaps.

Or attach it to your head with hair grips (you'd need your hair up firmly underneath the hat first)

CandyLeBonBon · 08/01/2021 07:51

@Snowbored

Yes, the window is open. DH won't sleep with a closed window 🙄 Could ask my mum if she still has some baby patterns...but she might start asking questions 🤣
Then he needs to sleep somewhere else. That's completely unfair
Mummyoply · 08/01/2021 07:53

If you have the funds, could you purchase a nightcap like one of these. They are designed for Chemo patients to wear at night and will stay on.

I have ordered my DD a Nite Hood. It hasn’t arrived yet, so I can’t tell you what it’s like. However, it is a hat that would stay on your head all night. Not sure how warm it would be?

HighHeelBoots · 08/01/2021 07:58

I wear a cap to try and stop my hair frizzing. I also wear an eye mask. The eye mask keeps the cap on

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 08/01/2021 07:59

These posts are making me anxious. Please don’t have anything tied near your neck or face during the night.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 08/01/2021 08:02

Tell 'DH' you won't sleep with the window open, why does he get to make the decision?

KatyaZamolodchikova · 08/01/2021 08:02

Here is a pattern for a hat with ear flaps and wool ties under the chin:
www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/earflap-hat-57

The website has lots and lots of free patterns. I agree with PP that you could also see some ribbon on for under your chin as it would be soft enough to untie of you needed it to.

Sakesman · 08/01/2021 08:03

Dear god, he’d happy see you have to wear a hat in bed? He sounds like a total dick. Hope He’s not.

Botherfreedays · 08/01/2021 08:07

Does his need to sleep top trump yours?
Close the window, make it his problem.

Snowvid19 · 08/01/2021 08:07

I like to be cool at night but if it was so cold that DH had to wear a hat, I’d know I was being very unreasonable! Can DH not sleep naked and/or use a sheet instead of the duvet? I know fresh air is nice but this sounds like madness!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/01/2021 08:07

If its that cold you need to move your bed or keep the window closed.

We sleep with our window open but its not near the bed. There's no way we would wear hats in bed.

EggysMom · 08/01/2021 08:07

Moving into the spare room was our solution - DH likes a freezing bedroom (window open, ceiling fan on) whereas I just like a cold room without the Baltic blast. Plus I snore....

Similar to @Mummyoply, I used a lot of Deresina headgear during chemo, and the sleep caps were very soft. And a bit cheaper 😁

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/01/2021 08:29

I think something like this would do the trick.

Outrageous that a man would happily have his wife sleep in a hat than close the window in the middle of winter Shock

xHeartinacagex · 08/01/2021 08:32

Wear a hoodie to bed! I used to do this as a student as we were too skint to have the heating on much. Just pull the drawstrings to tighten the hood round your face a bit. It works a treat.

YouAbsoluteLittleBugger · 08/01/2021 08:33

I wear one of these at all times

Soutiner · 08/01/2021 08:48

If he is fully aware that his wife is having trouble sleeping because her head is cold due to his insistence that the window be kept open then he is a nasty piece of work.

Take up residence in the spare room and even better, take a hot lover to keep you warm at night!

sar302 · 08/01/2021 08:51

You don't need hat suggestions, you need your husband to be less of a dick.

Just tell him you're freezing, and shut the window!
