How to keep a hat on at night?

Snowbored · 08/01/2021 06:09

Woke up again with a colder than freezing cold draught over my head. I start the night wearing a beanie, I have a pillow upright against the end of the bed but I always wake with a cold head and my hat keeping the pillow warm. Is there a trick? A better suited style of hat?

What about a canopy over the head of your bed. Your breathing would keep the air warm and the canopy keep the draft out.

Yogaposer · 08/01/2021 18:45

My MIL wears a bandana that ties at the back of the head. Maybe you could make one out of a warm material?

Divebar · 08/01/2021 18:45

Roman blinds can work too. ( you’re now finding out why window coverings are a “ thing” )

sparklefarts · 08/01/2021 18:49

@Snowbored

We have no curtains. As I said, I don’t know anyone who does who isn’t of my parents generation. We have shutters outside we can close to stop people looking in. But when it’s windy we have to keep them up else they rattle. And when it’s windy, there’s a fraught. We’re top floor, no one can see in anyway. I’m tall. If I have my head on the pillow and lie on my front, my toes hang over the edge of the mattress. If I lie on my side, they don’t!
You don't now anyone that has curtains apart from old people?

Your husband -let's not bother with the D, it's superfluous here - would rather you sleep in a hate and keep waking up cold, than close a window?

This is BATSHIT.

Get blinds is you don't like curtains? Upgrade the husband. Sorted

sparklefarts · 08/01/2021 18:50

Hat not hate

RandomMess · 08/01/2021 18:51

Are you in the Netherlands??

How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m in my mid 20s and don’t know anyone of any age who doesn’t use curtains...
Ansterdame · 08/01/2021 19:24

He will allow the window closed when it gets to -10 degrees?
He’d be happy to see you sleeping in a hat because you’re so cold at -5 degrees?
You have to sleep on that side to deal with the kids?
Your husband sounds like a real treasure

Eckhart · 08/01/2021 19:26

Sleep in a different marriage.

Sexnotgender · 08/01/2021 19:29

I’m in my 30s and have curtains. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have curtains!

Why won’t he sleep with a closed window?

RunningFromInsanity · 08/01/2021 19:30

It’s dangerous to tie anything around your head whilst asleep.

Swapping beds is the most logical, you just have to decide if not being next to the bookcase is worth getting a cold head.

How many nights does it really get to -10 ffs.

pooopypants · 08/01/2021 19:47

-10? Are you in the Arctic?

I can't decide if you 1) are a blatant troll, 2) just got bored / drunk / high, 3) are SO oblivious to your DH being a massive, selfish prick or 4) think this kind of one sided 'agreement' (read: him TELLING you) is actually normal behaviour

Stop making excuses and sleep somewhere else. Or kick his ice cube of an arse out. Or close the fucking window and stay warm, like you should be, in your own damn bed

Fuck that for a game of soldiers

TheNorthWind · 08/01/2021 19:49

@Eckhart

Sleep in a different marriage.
You're somewhere in the DACH region, aren't you?

Nevertheless, potentially throttling yourself overnight because of some bollocks idea about it not be cold enough to shut the window is utter nonsense.

Or, you swap beds. You gather your reading material before retiring for the night, and he can get up to deal with the children. That way he'll get even more time to enjoy his lovely freezing room.

Can you even keep a glass of water on the night stand and expect it to still be liquid come morning?

Also beginning to wonder if this is for real, op adding things about the Dh’s requirements as the thread goes on, but not responding to any of the points raised about him
Scaredykittycat · 08/01/2021 20:00

@Eckhart I completely laughed out loud

Snowbored · 08/01/2021 20:19

Late 30's. All the people I know have Dc aged 8 +/- a couple of years. Yes, Dh is an arse when it comes to sleep, but he's even more of an arse when he doesn't sleep so I don't interfere with his sleeping foibles. It doesn't get to -10 all that often, no, so it's really not worth causing a fuss. For the few days that it's a problem, a hat that would stay on would be the solution! It's forecast -6 for the rest of the week and then should get a bit warmer before getting colder again. He's never got up with the Dc (I'm a SAHM) so it's easier for me to be in the bed by the door.

Where can I get me one o' these man hunks?

peridito · 08/01/2021 21:05

As others have said wear something with a hood .I wear a simple zipped track suit type top with a hood in bed . I have to sleep more or less sitting up so get cold without a hood .

Plussizejumpsuit · 08/01/2021 21:18

This is fucking bonkers. You're sleeping with a window open because you're arse of a husband wants it open in the middle of winter.

Also the implication only old people have curtains is utter madness. Where do you live op? Who do you know?

IPead · 08/01/2021 21:23

What a lot of excuses for a shitty husband. If you’re so cold you are thinking of wearing a hat to bed, you shut the window. It’s really simple.
And how old are you? I’m 35 and we have curtains. All of my friends have curtains. My friends in London have curtains, my friends in Paris have curtains, my friends in Cornwall haha curtains, my family in Madrid have curtains, my friends in the Midlands have curtains.
Weird.

FelicityBeedle · 08/01/2021 21:31

Knit a hat and two long thing pieces, sew long thin pieces to hat as straps. Voila grown up bonnet

Audreyseyebrows · 08/01/2021 21:35

You need a new Dh hth

EssexLioness · 08/01/2021 21:35

This is ridiculous... I am in my early 40s and lots of friends/family in their 30s. We all have curtains. Also if this is real, what is wrong with your husband that he would prefer you to sleep in a hat than close the window? Wtf! The poster who said sleep in a different marriage had it spot on!

Soutiner · 09/01/2021 06:15

What happened last night, op?

Did you tell him that you’ve had enough pandering to his selfishness and have the support of all the women on Mumsnet?
