Clap for carers

Given the current pressures and having a bit more enforced time should clap for carers restart?

@mids2019

Guess a straw poll would be no then...Hmm

Could I put forward a counter argument as a morale boost for pressured ICUs..

Morale issues in the NHS are widely publicised..

No!!!! Things you can do to raise morale: Don’t vote Tory. Donate to your local Trust’s charitable trust. Gifts of food because it’s difficult to get on shift especially if you’re working on COVID wards. Stop virtue signalling. Volunteer where you can. Stop abusing A&E. Don’t vote Tory. Don’t patronise us with clapping and pot banging when we’re sleeping or trying to get our kids to sleep so that we can sleep. Don't vote Tory.
Xerochrysum · 04/01/2021 19:33

It's meaningless to clap and not follow the rules. It may make you feel better, but everyone doing their best to stop the spread is far better than half hearted clapping.

Backbee · 04/01/2021 19:33

It wa seither disturbing shift worker sleep patterns

Interested what shift workers are sleeping at 8pm.

I dont see the point of it, but some carers and NHS workers really liked it last time, just because the ones who didn't have been more vocal, meh. If people want to then why not.

EloraaDanan · 04/01/2021 19:35

I forgot campaigning actively for better salaries and working conditions.

I imagine a pay rise would be more of a morale boost.
Caesargeezer · 04/01/2021 19:36

It was cringeworthy enough the first time.

Some of my night shifts start at 11pm... Some having a sleep before work is entirely reasonable.

Night shift workers maybe? I don't leave the house until 9.30, I've got up, had food and a bath and done house things and just got back in for a nap until 9. It's usually quieter than trying to sleep through the day and most night shift workers have broken sleep like that.
Staffy1 · 04/01/2021 19:38

Hmmm...I think the "no"s are ever so slightly in the lead here
Grin

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 04/01/2021 19:39

No stop it it's awful, and thats from me and fellow NHS staff.

EloraaDanan · 04/01/2021 19:39

Campaign so we don’t have to work for free.

Don’t worry OP I’ll keep adding so you can make a note for your to do list

Cherryberrypies · 04/01/2021 19:39

No. I love my key worker parents and siblings dearly, they know this, but I will not be standing on my doorstop clapping for them with all the hypocrites who do as they please.

Spudina · 04/01/2021 19:39

No. Virtue signalling is the last thing carers need right now, speaking as one. It would just antagonise people. We need something to actually help us, like being vaccinated asap and the government not messing with the approved vaccination schedule.

EgonSpengler2020 · 04/01/2021 19:41

I'm a paramedic, it annoyed me last time, so is definitely not going to 'boost my morale' this time.

Last time i would hear it from my back garden whilst I was enjoying some evening chill out time gardening. I think if I heard it now in the pitch black of winter the contrast to summer lockdown would reduce me to tears.

EloraaDanan · 04/01/2021 19:41

Check on your healthcare worker neighbours. Check if they’re ok and if they need anything

I am sure we could think of things that would boost the morale of ICU staff much better than clapping on our doorsteps like obedient seals.
Twistered · 04/01/2021 19:42

Is this another wind up fs

No fucking way should the clapping start!!
Never again

BananaPop2020 · 04/01/2021 19:43

No no no. How did you miss the epic 18-20 page thread on this a couple of days ago?

Posturesorposes · 04/01/2021 19:43

NO.

Fuck that.

Fuck it.

I am a huge NHS fan and defend it sometimes quite abrasively!

But hell no.

Misandrylovescompany · 04/01/2021 19:44

Oh god just don’t vote Tory and show your appreciation that way ffs.

torthecatlady · 04/01/2021 19:45

Nope, NHS staff seem to hate it just as much as the rest of us.
WhatInFreshHell · 04/01/2021 19:45

Absolutely fucking not.

dingledongle · 04/01/2021 19:46

No more virtue signalling please

My next door neighbours kept a register of who attended who did not Angry

EloraaDanan · 04/01/2021 19:46

Get the vaccine.
Wear your mask.
Stop breathing on me on the fucking train.
