Clap for carers

Given the current pressures and having a bit more enforced time should clap for carers restart?

OP posts:

My DH works in A&E, thinks it's bollocks.

They need a pay rise, not a poncy clap from the daft masses who are breaking rules all over the place.

I know several people who were out there clapping and filming their "community spirit" for FB during the last lockdown, whilst still meeting friends, mixing households and generally paying fuck all attention to the guidelines in the spring.

Clapping can fuck off.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 04/01/2021 19:51

Petition for us to get a pay rise instead

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 19:51

No.

But I would like to see the meals being cooked and delivered again.

Priority slots in supermarkets but rather than just an hour in the morning arranged around the morning and evening shift times of local hospitals.

Most hospitals have a coffee shop. Perhaps we could start a fund so staff can get a free coffee each day - perhaps the coffee shops can start a donation online.

I think what staff need is for people to do something active to support them through this. I actually cried earlier when I watched a nurse say staff are starting to suffer ptsd because having lived through the previous peak they know what's coming.

These people may save our lives someday. It might not be from covid.

My mums a cancer patient and has received her care throughout. We made a hamper before Christmas and delivered to oncology staff.

I just feel myself that clapping is now empty. We can all clap from home. Doing something else takes more effort.

Overall, a quite spectacular failure by the OP to read the room, the house, the street, the country and the entire planet. Grin

How many people would be in favour of sticking our heads out the window and screaming 'FUUUUUCK' at an agreed time every week?

TheSockMonster · 04/01/2021 19:57

@Aspiringmatriarch

Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen.
Best reply ever Grin

A) it’s going to be dark and cold

B) it was quite divisive even last year. In my own circle of friends there was: a hospital nurse who wasn’t on a covid ward and a nurse at our local GP practice, both much quieter than usual, who felt mortified at their sudden saint status; friends who worked in supermarkets who were putting themselves at risk daily and felt put out to get no recognition; and friends of friends who were working in covid wards but felt it was a pointless empty gesture that did nothing to address the problems they faced, except make the clappers feel better about it.

C) we were worried and unsure what would happen and joint activities like clapping helped people feel connected. The fear and uncertainty is no longer high enough to mask the cringe factor.

@Backbee

It wa seither disturbing shift worker sleep patterns

Interested what shift workers are sleeping at 8pm.

I dont see the point of it, but some carers and NHS workers really liked it last time, just because the ones who didn't have been more vocal, meh. If people want to then why not.

I'm guessing you don't work shifts? Or just assume your shift pattern is magically the exact same as everyone elses?? Several people I know come on at 10 and due to childcare in the mornings sleep later to just get up and go to work.

But hey let's ensure other peoples validation comes before the actual needs of key workers ....that sounds incredibly morale boosting Hmm

MyMushroomsInATimeSlip · 04/01/2021 20:00

I got moaned at by my neighbour for not going out clapping one week. I was ill with covid caught from working in a hospital. Please don't bring the clapping back!

Seraphinesupport · 04/01/2021 20:03

The other thread said the same thing.. morale boost.

As a carer my morale would be gone if I/my kids had to wake up one more time to hearing echoing claps through my neighbourhood.

And no I don't think wow people clapping for me. Because I am doing my job and would rather the NHS just got what it deserved which is a whole lot more than claps.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 04/01/2021 20:07

@mids2019, you missed the massive thread on exactly the same thing a day or two ago then? My answer is no to clapping BTW.

Redglitter · 04/01/2021 20:08

No absolutely definitely not.

Redglitter · 04/01/2021 20:10

HedgieHog · 04/01/2021 20:13

Absolutely not

NaughtyNell · 04/01/2021 20:13

No as an NHS worker its patronising bollocks

KarmaNoMore · 04/01/2021 20:14

Fuck no! Stay home for carers, that’s the way to thank them and support them!

Fangdrew · 04/01/2021 20:14

“Aspiringmatriarch

This 😂

Crankley · 04/01/2021 20:15

Virtue signalling bullshit.

This gave me a much needed laugh...thanks! Grin
CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 20:15

No!

Volunteer to do stuff for them; start a GoFundMe or something. But don't start all.that bloody saucepan banging again!

MeIody · 04/01/2021 20:16

No!

Morsmordre · 04/01/2021 20:18

Nope

Scbchl · 04/01/2021 20:18

No

PanamaPattie · 04/01/2021 20:23

No! I'm not applauding anyone that is just doing their job. They are not heroes, they are just doing the role they are paid to do. Just like thousands of other "key" workers up and down the country.

isadoradancing123 · 04/01/2021 20:23

No

ChelseaCat · 04/01/2021 20:24

Fuck no
