How much do you tip your postman

Just realised we've got no cash and are isolating so can't go out

There's a fiver in DSs money box but is that an insult rather than a tip ?!

Lol, fuck all. I work hard for my tenners. I wonder how many of the Lady Bountifuls on this thread are using their husbands' money to patronise the labouring classes?

Tipping should be banned. It's feudal. And all the binmen, postmen and milkmen (funny how it's always blokes doing these tippable jobs) should be refusing cash gifts, just like the rest of us. If I took a tenner in a card from each of my customers, I'd get the sack.

Ifailed · 25/12/2020 07:43

I also tip the coal man

Blimey, have we time-warped back to the 50s - I didn't know it was even legal to burn coal now?

I am in a smokeless zone so you're right I actually burn smokeless ovoids Grin which are shite because they leave so much ash. Still delivered by a man covered in black dust in a sack over his shoulder. Merry Christmas Smile

You've missed off hairdressers and waiters/waitresses, because if you are looking at all 'tippable' jobs then it's nowhere near as clearcut as you suggest

Because I do agree that bin lorry crews are usually men, but not posties know)(and I never see a milk float so don't

whenindoubtBake · 25/12/2020 08:03

@Logantrical

£20 in a card every year. Our postie is brilliant and definitely goes the extra mile to make sure we don't have to drive to the sorting office to collect things. I don't think he is just doing his job. He goes to extra effort to deliver things when he could just chuck a card through the letterbox.
For exactly the same reasons as you, I give my postie £20 every year in a card. He goes that extra mile so he deserves it.
Tomcullenisahero · 25/12/2020 09:00

I give my postie a tub of Roses and I leave a case of beer and Roses for our binmen. my parents left gifts like this so I've just always done it.
It's just a little Christmas spirit I think

I mean I'm a TA in a northern working class town. I gave the milkman and greengrocer a fiver because they've been great this year. Didn't realise it was such a class bound no-no!
ExpensivelyDecorated · 25/12/2020 11:16

Well, I used my own hard-earned tenners and my postie is a woman. But her sex really isn't relevant.

Lampzade · 25/12/2020 11:22

£20 in a card
We have had the same postman for twelve years and he is great

cushioncovers · 25/12/2020 11:43

I don't tip anyone,I don't ever see them. I thought tipping bin men etc was an old fashioned tradition didn't realise people still did it tbh.

SantaMonicaPier · 26/12/2020 09:49

Bunchup, it sounds like you're assuming women don't earn money Hmm I work hard for our money too. The posties and binmen have essentially risked their lives by continuing to deliver services during a pandemic. I absolutely don't feel its feudal to show appreciation of that and was happy to tip them as a small gesture of thanks.

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 26/12/2020 09:54

£10 from us - he goes above and beyond.

Toototwo · 26/12/2020 10:13

We have two regular posties who are both brilliant. Tenner each. Would like to tip the binmen but feel too awkward.

Crowsandshivers · 26/12/2020 10:56

Chocolates and a card. Always do binmen caretaker at kids school, the teacher and the postmen.

HotChoc10 · 26/12/2020 11:39

I wouldn't normally but I gave ours £20 in a card because I feel a bit guilty about how many deliveries we've had this year... That said, the royal mail postman is the only one I really know as the amazon/Hermes ones change all the time so I didn't get them anything.

caringcarer · 26/12/2020 11:45

I give postman and regular delivery driver we get with our Amazon deliveries £5 each. Both seemed happy. Window cleaner got the same.
