How much do you tip your postman

Just realised we've got no cash and are isolating so can't go out

There's a fiver in DSs money box but is that an insult rather than a tip ?!

OP posts:
ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 24/12/2020 14:33

Absolutely bugger all! We've barely had the same one for months anyway.

Happpppppym · 24/12/2020 14:37

I don't feel there's anything wrong with a fiver, whatever given im sure is appreciated it all adds up. My dad is a royal mail postie he really appreciates it. They haven't stopped working during the pandemic like several other essential workers so abit of gratitude however shown goes a long way.

niceupthedance · 24/12/2020 14:37

£20 to the postie who was cheerful all through lockdown when we were safe in our house

£20 to the bin men as there's a lot of them

£10 to the milkman

My mum used to do it so I thought everyone did. I'd do it regardless this year anyway as it's been so hard

tass1960 · 24/12/2020 14:40

£10 in a card this year. Ours has powered through this year with a wave and a smile 🎅

FiddleyDoo · 24/12/2020 15:13

I've got no idea who delivers my post, so didn't tip anything.

Stillinbedat10am · 24/12/2020 15:37

I've never done this before but this year I put £10 in a card. Our postie has been brilliant this year and has also helped us out with sorting mail thefts from my mum's block of flat so I was more than happy to tip him.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 24/12/2020 15:42

Ours is shit and frequently shoves "While You Were Out" cards through the door when I'm in the house. Gets nothing.

Ditto bin men, who miss out our little cluster of houses on the slightest of pretexts as we're a bit out of the way.

Ironfloor269 · 24/12/2020 15:44

We gave our postie a card and a voucher for £15.

QueenPawPaws · 24/12/2020 15:45

Mine said he should be tipping me Grin as I live in a block of apartments and nobody else answers the door. I made him a hot chocolate in a takeaway cup which he seemed really happy with and I saw him drinking it as he went off

rosie39forever · 24/12/2020 15:49

£10 for the postie who we've had for years and is lovely.
£10 for the Tesco delivery driver who's a regular
Tub of celebrations for the bin men to share.
I don't usually do this sort of thing but these people have been a lifeline for us while my Ecv dh has been shielding.

pringlebells · 24/12/2020 15:50

I've never tipped my post man lol, do people do that?

Wintersunn · 24/12/2020 15:52

£20

Twinkie01 · 24/12/2020 15:52

£20, we know him by name, he's really helpful and chatty and a hard worker who goes above and beyond.

AliceinBunniland · 24/12/2020 15:52

I didn't realise "tipping" the postman was a thing

Bottle or chocs at Christmas, maybe, but don't consider that a tip and even that we don't do often

Pipandmum · 24/12/2020 15:53

I used to give £10 but we don't seem to have the same postie regularly.

Floralnomad · 24/12/2020 15:56

We gave the postman £10 , he’s excellent , knows everyone and is really helpful .I don’t tip the binmen because there are far too many of them , I don’t know any of them and they very often park inconveniently at the end of our road . I gave the dog groomer £20 . The lady who looks after our pony and the ironing lady both have children that we buy for and I gave a Costco treat tower to my riding instructor .

Tulipshoots · 24/12/2020 15:57

£10 in a Christmas card for Postie,he deserves it as he goes above and beyond for me and it’s always the same man. £10 for log delivery man too and the milkman.

It’s not a new thing and I have always done it.

SantaMonicaPier · 24/12/2020 15:59

We've just contributed to a street collection, £10 to be split between the bin men and postie

PointersPlease · 24/12/2020 16:01

Gave ours a bottle of wine

CherryRoulade · 24/12/2020 16:02

The amount is irrelevant but we tip the postman, the log boy, the dustmen and our Sainsbury’s driver.
We give the taxi driver a crate of beer, as he prefers that.

FourEyesGood · 24/12/2020 16:02

We put a £5 note in a card and gave it to our postie a couple of days ago. I can’t really afford to give more this year, but I definitely appreciate him. We’ve had loads of deliveries this year!

CommunistLegoBloc · 24/12/2020 16:09

Tenner each in a card for postman, parcel postman, DPD driver and Hermes driver. It's been the same 4 guys all year, they're cheery and reliable and nice, and we order a LOT of stuff.

I don't judge people for not tipping, but we can afford it and it's a nice thing. So why not

hiredandsqueak · 24/12/2020 16:13

I put a tenner in a card, he seemed pretty happy and knocked to say thank you. I bought the dustbin men a couple of tubs of sweets because there are a few of them.

HiveQueen · 24/12/2020 16:17

My husband is a postal worker and is overwhelmed by the number of gifts he has received this year. He is very appreciative as am I as I’ll get to share the wine and chocolates he has received. He’s had a smile on his face the past couple of weeks feeling the love from the residents on his round.

squeekums · 24/12/2020 16:19

nothing
why should i when they can barely get mail to he right address
