Are there still serial killers today?

I'm just watching the Yorkshire ripper documentary. All the famous serial killers seem to be 1960s-1980s, Dennis Nielsen, moors murderers, Ted bundy, zodiac. Are modern ones just not publicised the same?

I wonder who the Long Island serial killer is

I think the police are of the mind that the canal drownings are due to drunk young men going down to the canal for a piss, overbalancing and falling in.

Ideal way to conceal murders, though...

The number of missing people statistic is misleading.

Approximately 180,000 people are reported missing each year but that number is not adjusted for people who return home. 99% of children reported missing in the US, for example, are recovered alive or return home.

In 2019 there were about 650 murders in the UK which would leave 179,350 missing people unaccounted for, if we are saying that serial killers are partially responsible for their disappearance. Over a period of 10 years that's nigh on 2 million people "missing," which is a huge percentage of the population and isn't true.

Not to say that there aren't serial
Killers or that they don't prey on vulnerable sectors of society like prostitutes or runaways but I think there are more " one offs" in this category rather than serials.
