I also have a degree in Drama & Theer-ter arts and never heard anyone pronounce it differently, even the luvviest lecturers

My dad was a cockney who went to grammar school and then university. He lost his cockney accent and speaks in quite a neutral accent but has odd pronunciation for envelope and theatre. He says on-velope and -thee-a-ter.
Not sure how he says adhesive. Probably Glue.

I never thought about this, but no I don’t pronounce the a in theatre, and I don’t know why!

DH pronounces Theatre as The A ter, with huge emphasise on the A. Drives me nutty

Glue usually.

But if I were to say adhesive I wouldn't pronounce the h

DH says thee ATE er and it drives me nuts!
