What are your really petty pet hates?

It really annoys me when I'm walking behind someone and you can see flashes of white on the bottom of their shoes where they haven't peeled off the labels. That's the first thing I do when I buy a new pair of shoes, peel off the sole labels!

'My mother uses a chopping board to butter her toast then she puts her toast on a plate. Drives me bonkers. Why woman why?'

I do this 😂

PoppyOppy · 02/12/2020 15:40

People who forget their reading glasses when they come to a clinic I work in and cant fill out the forms we need them to fill in....you are coming to hospital!! Theres a big chance you'll have to read and sign something!

Maybe they're embarrassed because they're not very literate? You never know. One would have thought working in a hospital you'd have more comparison tbh.

Compassion. Thanks autocorrect. Hmm

It drives me crackers when people take huge spoonfuls of yoghurt but then just scrape the top layer off with their teeth or lips leaving behind a slimy looking layer on the spoon. Makes me feels really sick. Either put the whole lot in your mouth or just take smaller spoonfuls!

Also people who say "less" when it should be "fewer". I'm not generally pedantic about grammar but that sets my teeth on edge every time.

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 02/12/2020 18:18

Oh @PoppyOppy its light hearted fgs.

@Hohohole

My mother uses a chopping board to butter her toast then she puts her toast on a plate. Drives me bonkers. Why woman why?

Thank you for letting me get that off my chest.

My husband does that and it drives me mad! I have no idea why either.

@supercee why?? Why would you do that? I need enlightening.

pinkbalconyrailing · 02/12/2020 18:53

I do the toast on a board thing.
it's because on a plate water condenses under the toast and makes it wet and sloppy bleurgh.

I do it too as the board is flat so easier to butter.
supercee · 02/12/2020 19:07

@Thefirsttime I just find it weird putting hot toast straight onto the plate. Plates aren't completely flat and are on the cold side.

Prefer on a flat board, get it buttered, then onto the plate it goes. Works for me!

Xmas in place of Christmas
Veggie in place of vegetarian
Uni in place of University
Kids in place of children

My DH says Fixings "We have all the fixings for salad" We have all the ingredients for salad

And Up for grabs when there's a free offer in a magazine

All pale into insignificance when people walk along a busy street looking at their iPhones not what's around them. Death by a thousand papercuts for them Angry

I love ‘fixins’ reminds me of ‘eastbound and down’ 😂
VicMackey · 02/12/2020 20:23

@ 70isaLimitNotaTarget.

‘Up for grabs’ is very irritating though 😂

VicMackey · 02/12/2020 20:30

@ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN

When people (and it’s mainly men) use the palm of their hand to move the car steering wheel

I can’t explain why it makes me so angry as I don’t know why

I call that ‘the man hand’ and I have actually tried it and it doesn’t work for me .. ..😂

Frasier used to pull his dad up on this he called it ‘toast sweat’
Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2020 20:32

Ideally, straight from the toaster to the toast rack then buttered on the chopping board and transferred to a plate.

discodave88 · 02/12/2020 20:36

People who eat pizza and burgers with a knife and fork.

Spottybluepyjamas · 02/12/2020 20:41

People who say 'myself' when it should be 'me' or 'I'...

"My partner and myself"... Oh my goodness it makes my skin crawl!

Spottybluepyjamas · 02/12/2020 20:42

Oh and people who say "need gone". It doesn't make sense!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/12/2020 21:46

The neighbours at the top of the cul de sac who park their cars making it difficult for anything else to get down the road. Just park on your driveway instead of Infront of it half on... (Road isn't wide enough for two cars to pass)

BluTangClan · 02/12/2020 22:05

Wall mounted televisions.
Whenever I walk past a house where I can see a t.v mounted on a party wall, I feel sorry for the neighbours.

I can beat that - Once, in a Chinese restaurant, I saw someone using a knife and fork to eat spare ribs. It was painful.
MarmiteyCrumpets · 03/12/2020 06:32

"Dog walkers leaving bags of dog crap on the floor. You've gone to the effort of picking it up and bagging it, chuck it in the bloody bin."

I always wonder at the thought processes of people who do this. How can anyone, when confronted with a shitting dog, decide that the best course of action is to pack it into a little plastic bag, tie it up, and leave it to decorate the ground (or even worse, hang it from a tree), where it'll languish indefinitely?

Nellle · 03/12/2020 06:42

When people say they have "mental health" when they mean mental health problems or mental ill health.

carlaCox · 03/12/2020 07:09

Just backing up the PP about the bread thing. It's ok to butter a slice of bread, like a slice of toast. But if you've got a bread roll with your meal then you're not supposed to cut it in half and butter it. I don't really care but my dad (who worked in a restaurant) would have gone bezerk if he saw me doing that.

As for pet hates - there are too many to list but having to listen to people fawning over the Royal children is a particular dislike of mine.
