Just when you thought a January birthday couldn't get any crappier... What do people have planned?

I've always hated my birthday being in January. Everyone is broke and depressed after Christmas. And everyone seems to only speak about January in derogatory ways! And now....covid. Not that important in the grand scheme of things, I know, but what are fellow January birthday sufferers planning? Mine's a milestone one too...

So sorry your milestone birthday is going to be upstaged by the sodding🦠. You could have a quiet day on the actual day - long winter walk, nice meal etc, then have a summer un-birthday party?

I never minded being a January baby as there weren’t as many of us in my class at school, so it was a bit unusual. After the slight lull after xmas I still had something to look forward to. As an adult it can be a bit crap trying to organise things when everyone is broke post-xmas, or on diets, not partying etc. And the weather.....DH’s birthday is at a rubbish time of year too!

Absolutely nothing, I really can't be arsed with it.

Milestone birthday in Feb. No plans. Still not had my present come to fruition for this year.
No idea what will be viable to do, and I'd rather not have a disappointment.

My milestone birthday is middle of December. No plans. Nada. It’s going to be a bit shit.

Gingernaut · 22/11/2020 23:51

My birthday is Holocaust Memorial Day. 🙄😳😪

I hate it and celebrate with time off work or a few days off during the summer.

Originalyellowbelly · 22/11/2020 23:55

I had a milestone birthday in January this year and it was lovely, this coming one will be crap, but remember OP most people that have had birthdays this year were in the same boat. I hope you find a way of having a good time and are able to spend it with people you love. Have a Gin to start you off.

Longdistance · 22/11/2020 23:58

You want miserable, my dh is at his friends wedding when it’s my birthday and I’m not invited due to numbers.

blueberrymuffin88 · 23/11/2020 00:07

Hi OP. No plans here as yet for my birthday on the 14th but I just wanted to say I can relate. Mine isn't a milestone but I am pregnant which means I can't even bloody well have a drink 😒.
Make the best of it, treat yourself and next year you can hopefully do something really special to make up for it.

Davros · 23/11/2020 00:10

I like my January birthday (usually). I can get things I wanted for Xmas but didn't get, sales are on so I can get more and it makes the beginning of the year fun instead of dull. I had a landmark birthday this year and was lucky to have a big party before Lockdown.

LizB62A · 23/11/2020 00:24

Milestone birthday in Jan 2022 so in July 2021 I'll have my "x9 and a halfth" birthday celebration just like I did 10 years ago !

TheDowagerDuchess · 23/11/2020 00:36

My brother is Jan 2nd and I think he’s just made his peace with it!

I’ve just had a lockdown birthday and his view is that’s what his is like every year!

EcoCustard · 23/11/2020 04:29

Milestone January birthday too, should of been fulfilling a long held ambition somewhere else but cancelled a while back.

Planning on a beach walk followed by wine and a box of cheese, movie with the kids, DH & dogs. Early January birthdays are crap in normal times, this one will be no better. Have a Wine OP and plan something for the day even if it’s small, do something later in the year.

What’s crap about that?

Single parent here if primary, and this is what I do every year (minus the DH), and I bloody love it.

MaureenMLove · 23/11/2020 04:55

Hmm, who knows! Mine is the 20th and as I'm shielding at the moment, I have an awful feeling I'll have to be shielding then too.

This also means, that despite telling work I was happy to come in this time, they've insisted I work from home, so I expect I'll be here.

I live alone, so I'll be making my own tea in bed (at silly o'clock, just like now!Grin) and then pushing on through a day of work.

Hey ho. Nowt we can do to change this shit show. I've had 52 other birthdays and hope to have lots more!

ExpensivelyDecorated · 23/11/2020 06:03

Well, we have a cluster of Jan/Feb birthdays and this year we were grateful for that as they were all celebrated before it kicked off. It won't be great this time round but we will celebrate in low key ways, with takeaways etc.

MitziK · 23/11/2020 06:48

Two weeks into january here.

Roughly the day that the bills from Christmas fall due and people realise they have another fortnight to go until payday.

I have never had a special birthday.

zigaziga · 23/11/2020 06:57

If it helps...

My birthday is early summer and everything was still pretty shut this year because of CV but on account of the 3 months of glorious weather processing it I had HIGH HOPES.
My plan was to lie in the garden with my feet in the padding pool with a bottle of sparkling rose and loads of trashy magazines and for DH to somehow keep the children (young) occupied in the house whilst I ignored everyone. In the end, it was one of the only days of terrible weather we had and I just say inside with the kids and watched the shitty weather through the window.

merlotormalbec · 23/11/2020 06:58

Starting to TTC 🤣 do have a weekend away planned at the end of jan which has been rearranged twice already. Tbf I'm happy with a a quiet one I've really enjoyed this last lockdown.

thesunwillout · 23/11/2020 07:10

I'm rather looking forward to not having to muster up any interest in mine, first week of January.

I'm sure those in my family who find it hard to get excited about will also be relieved 😆

My dd had an 18th lockdown birthday which was pretty crap, tho we made it as special as possible.

I've had lots of crappy birthdays so this one will fit in nicely.

Op I hope you do have a good one tho x

rosy71 · 23/11/2020 07:12

Ds2 has a birthday in January. He is still waiting for last year's swimming party!!

BikeRunSki · 23/11/2020 07:23

I was 50 two weeks ago. My birthday was on a Sunday Sunday and I took the Monday off. Over Saturday/Sunday/Monday I met up with a friend for outside exercise (different one each time). In between I ate a lot of food! We had an afternoon tea delivered one day, DH and the dc made enchiladas one meal, and we got an Indian takeaway one meal. It was quiet, but enjoyable. I was never going to hire a hall and a dj anyway.

Curlygirl06 · 23/11/2020 08:43

I've got a milestone birthday 3 weeks into January. I've been hinting for years that I've never had a birthday party, not even as a kid, so a surprise party would be lovely. That won't be happening.
The day of my birthday I'm due to be up at 6, run round after my grandchildren all day, with the school run for the eldest and looking after the baby all day, walking bloody miles and it'll probably be raining.
I'm staying 59 for another year.

Davros · 23/11/2020 09:36

To be fair, my birthday is later in January. I think a birthday early in January is a different kettle of cliché

Kenworthington · 23/11/2020 09:44

Ds2 has his 18th end of Jan. It’s going to be utter pants. I’ve said to him that if things are a bit more normal by the summer we will have a garden party for him

Notstayingup · 23/11/2020 09:48

January birthdays are crap - for my last big birthday I designated 1 July my birthday and had a huge bbq party and it was brilliant. Best thing about living in NZ was my birthday was bang in the middle of summer which was a great novelty. I feel your pain OP
