When do you put up your Christmas Tree?

I know it’s only November but what a year this has been! I’ve heard some people say they’re going to put up their trees early to bring some festive spirit. When is everyone thinking of putting them up?

Normally end of 2nd week in December, we usually have a real tree and it goes up then and comes down 6th January. This year we have a cat in the house so I've ordered an artificial tree. Really hope it looks half decent. Anyway probably earlier than usual because everything is a bit shit, but still December

Oldraver · 03/11/2020 16:33

December 10th ish. OH 's birthday is in December and he used to say he didnt wnat to share it with Christmas. Though he was the one raring to go to put up the decs last year

Ive seen quite a few people on FB put up the tree now, mostly to cheer themselves up

lazylinguist · 03/11/2020 16:35

Aren't they supposed to go up 12 days before Christmas, doesn't anyone do this anymore?

Nope. 12 days of Christmas are from the 25th December to the 5th January.

It goes up on the 1st of December (or as close to it as possible) and comes down somewhere between Boxing Day and New Years Day depending on what we've got going on.

grassisjeweled · 03/11/2020 16:48

Bastard's going up early this year, early Dec

I already started watching shit films on Netflix and found my Christmas playlist

^^

Nope. I don't answer to ANYONE Grin

Crakeandoryx · 03/11/2020 16:56

I think a few will be up early. We might add some additional fairy lights to rooms etc just to cosy the house up but decorations won't go up any sooner. I've normally had enough of them after a few weeks.

ChloeCrocodile · 03/11/2020 17:03

Normally mine goes up around 10th December. I have a real tree though, and don't take it down until the 6th Jan, so can't have it up too early.

LER83 · 03/11/2020 17:04

We always put it up 1st Dec. My mums birthday is end of November so always wait until after then.

ZZGirl · 03/11/2020 17:11

1st weekend in December and it comes down day after boxing day

Ilovesausages · 03/11/2020 17:13

Definitely sooner than usual this year. Maybe around the 1st December.

I already have new fairy lights and a circle of lights in the window though.

Think we all need a bit of lightness at the moment.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 03/11/2020 17:16

It varies but last year for some reason it was 23rd December. Too late imho. This year it's tempting to put it up last week of this month, "ready for Advent".

Yorkshireswithallroasts · 03/11/2020 17:18

@ZZGirl

1st weekend in December and it comes down day after boxing day
Same for us.
Ohfrigginghellers · 03/11/2020 17:20

I'll put mine up at Christmas time.

VaggieMight · 03/11/2020 17:23

@MistyGreenAndBlue I haven't misunderstood anything. I didn't come up with this on my own. People can put their tree up whenever they want but I'm surprised so many on this thread have never heard of putting it up 12 days before Christmas. It's a thing! A real tree wouldn't look too good by Christmas Day if it goes up any sooner.

When do you put up your Christmas Tree?
midsomermurderess · 03/11/2020 17:26

When I was growing up we put the tree up on 24 December. I think it worked in to the whole 12 night thing. My parents would have a big dinner party for friends and everyone, atheist, Jewish, presbyterian, trooped off to Midnight Mass. When we got home, we opened presents. I'd do that now with a tree if I didn't live in a small flat with no room for one. Oh, and a cat that would pull it down. But, everyone has their own traditions.

happymummy12345 · 03/11/2020 17:29

Same as every year, goes up the first weekend of December and comes down 6th January. I'm superstitious so never ever do anything else

Devilesko · 03/11/2020 17:34

A few days before Christmas, for us.

Ginfordinner · 03/11/2020 17:38

TBH I don't care, nor do I judge people for putting their trees up early. I'm just not a huge fan of Christmas and the tree just makes my living room look smaller and darker, even when lit up.

aToadOnTheWhole · 03/11/2020 17:41

At my parents house it's the 15th (used to be their pay day). In my house, it's the 1st week in December.

earthyfire · 03/11/2020 17:45

Sometime in December, I don't do Christmas in Nov...I am not that keen to rush through my life! I like my tree up for New Years Eve/Day as we usually have another Christmas dinner on New Years day with family (although not this year) my birthday is also in late Dec and I like the tree up then too. I prefer to put my tree up in Dec like we did when I was a child rather than put it up in Nov and take it down as soon as Christmas day is over! Never understood that!

Someonesayroadtrip · 03/11/2020 17:45

December, usually the first week.

FireUnderpants · 03/11/2020 17:57

The first Sunday in December we decorate a small pot grown one. It's kept away from radiators and is kept well hydrated, (touches wood) so far none have resembled a twig by the time xmas day rolls round. Although one year was touch and go when dh decided it was his job to water it. He didn't realise the roots were enclosed in a zip tied bag. He did create a nice swamp bucket though.

Some years I have gone the weekend before to buy it if we're busy, but I refuse to let it indoors until December. It can sit on the garden patio staring in at us.

unmarkedbythat · 03/11/2020 17:58

As late as I can get away with, usually mid December. I take it down a few days after NYE. And I have blue flashing lights for it, off the back of them being roundly sneered at on here a few years ago- looking at them and knowing how much a certain type of MNer hates them makes me smile.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 03/11/2020 18:01

Mine usually goes up around December 20th and is down on January 1st. It won't be going up at all this year. Christmas will be just another day.
