When do you put up your Christmas Tree?

I know it’s only November but what a year this has been! I’ve heard some people say they’re going to put up their trees early to bring some festive spirit. When is everyone thinking of putting them up?

Usually second weekend of December. This year could be tempted to do it the first weekend (if the artificial one I ordered last night arrives in time). I consider 12 days of Christmas as Christmas and after, not before. Probably wrong but that's what we did when I was little with taking the tree down and I'm lazy so copy it.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 03/11/2020 15:49

Normally mine is up the first weekend in December, but this year I'm getting my little table top one out soon. I'm WFH so I get to see it twinkling in the corner all day, which is cheering.

I don't have real trees as I'm allergic to them.

No decorations are taken down before 6 January - Christmas is a season, not a day, in my house!

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 03/11/2020 15:49

Yep, 2nd weekend of December. Although this year, this might depend on when we are out of lockdown in order to buy a tree.

1st of December here but that's when we always put it up

TiffanyIceberg · 03/11/2020 15:57

Our village has cancelled our usually lovely 'lights night ' a bit celebration with stalls and music, and are suggesting we all put our tree and lights up on the night it would have been, at the end of November. Just hope we don't blow the whole village's electrics!

  • big not bit.

I've already been watching the Christmas films channel, makes me happy.

TeenPlusTwenties · 03/11/2020 16:02

Christmas tree - normally on the last day of term. This year who knows, not before the 18th definitely - stays up until 5th Jan.

Outside lights, normally 3 week in November to coincide with town lights switch on. This year, maybe a bit earlier, at least the white ones. Coloured ones off 5th Jan, white stay up as long as evenings are dark.

DinosApple · 03/11/2020 16:03

Ours goes sometime between the 10th and the 18th, but we get a real one so it would just be a twig in a pot if we bought one any earlier.

And we're moving end of this month/beginning of next 🙈, so definitely not any earlier!

EatTheHamTina · 03/11/2020 16:03

Might do mine next weekend. We have a winter wonderland walk this weekend so cba to do it then! Grin

Sarahtops · 03/11/2020 16:04

First weekend in December, which will be the 5/6th. Any earlier and I end up with a dead tree!

NoSauce · 03/11/2020 16:05

Middle of December, any earlier and I would be sick of it.

Nonamesavail · 03/11/2020 16:05

Late December because I am always sick of it by Xmas eve!

BiddyPop · 03/11/2020 16:08

Normally mid-December.

Given that the Grinch of the household, DH, has already commented about early tree decorating and the need for cheering people up this year, I suspect that we will be doing it sometime in late November or at the very latest, 1st weekend of Dec.

Or maybe slowly build up from a tasteful bit of greenery to looking like a Christmas Grotto!! I might finally get to use both trees and my garlands for the stairs all in the same year (I have plenty of decorations for both trees Xmas Blush ).

TheBakedPototo · 03/11/2020 16:13

Usually the second week of December.

This year it’ll be next weekend. Had to order a new tree, and can’t be arsed dragging it to the loft for the sake of a couple of weeks Grin

NatalieH2220 · 03/11/2020 16:15

Usually first weekend of December. This year I'll be putting them up in the next couple of weeks. DS2 is due in 3 weeks and I want to do it while I can!

AlwaysLatte · 03/11/2020 16:20

We have real trees and usually buy them second week into December as usual. This year I might buy them earlier and store them in the garden for a week as there might be a rush on them!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 03/11/2020 16:21

First or second week in December and packed away on the 26th!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 03/11/2020 16:21

@VaggieMight

Aren't they supposed to go up 12 days before Christmas, doesn't anyone do this anymore?
Have you misunderstood the 12 days of Christmas? Otherwise, I don't understand this. Christmas day is day 1. Smile
Chocolatehasruinedmylife · 03/11/2020 16:24

I normally put mine up the first weekend in December. This year has been an awful year, Covid aside, and I can't wait for it to be over so I am very tempted to put mine up earlier this year (and I bought a new tree and decorations in the sale in January and really can't wait to see it all out) but I am going to try my hardest to wait till the beginning of December.

BruceAndNosh · 03/11/2020 16:25

Last weekend before Christmas Day.

YouTube is full of American influencers doing fully decorated house tours. Already!

TheJourneyWoman · 03/11/2020 16:25

1st of December, away first weekend of January. Love having them up and want them up as long as possible.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 03/11/2020 16:26

My ex was adamant that Christmas starts 12 days before Christmas and finishes 12 days after. Apparently that's why its the "12 days of Christmas". Maths was clearly a problem for him Wink

Mine goes up the weekend after school breaks up

speakout · 03/11/2020 16:30

Mid december as always.

For me having a tree up for too long lessens the impact and wonder .
PLus I like a large fresh tree, the smell is amazing, and it would be crispy if I kept it up too long.

HappyDinosaur · 03/11/2020 16:30

First weekend of December usually, I take them down before New Year though as I'm not bothered about that.

CastleOfDoom · 03/11/2020 16:31

Yes the 12 days of Christmas are after Christmas Day not before. It annoys me when some advent calendars are the 'twelve days of Christmas', no that's not right - it's just so you can flog an advent calendar with half the contents AngryGrin
