There’s a specific name, not Canin/portacabin. I’m having one of those brain-melt moments and now can’t relax until I remember it. I know this is not of the greatest importance!

We called them Demountables

EternalOptimist7 · 28/10/2020 09:22

Pretty sure we called them portacabins

Goawayquickly · 28/10/2020 09:22

@SoVeryQuiet it was the name of the company that made them

PrimeraVez · 28/10/2020 09:22

we called them 'roll-a-longs' - guess that's how you spell it anyway! no idea why!

RaininSummer · 28/10/2020 09:22

Portacabins at the schooI I was at. Was teaching a class once when the floor suddenly detached from the walls. Not all the way round thankfully so we all left safely.

babyguffingtonstrikesagain · 28/10/2020 09:23

We called them huts in the midlands

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 28/10/2020 09:23

We used to call them huts but DC's school call them demountables.

Sootybear · 28/10/2020 09:23

Demountable maybe.

BrightSunshineDay · 28/10/2020 09:24

Annex

Noitjustwontdo · 28/10/2020 09:25

We called them portacabins. I actually forgot all about them. We always had our PHSCE class in one and it was bloody freezing during winter.

Takethewinefromtheswine · 28/10/2020 09:28

Demountables.

ineedaholidaynow · 28/10/2020 09:31

T-huts at my old school in the 80s.

SkepticalCat · 28/10/2020 09:31

Demountable here as well (South-east England). We had music lessons in the "demountables" and that's where pupils went if they had 1-1 or small group interventions.

MuckyPlucky · 28/10/2020 09:32

Mobiles

cathyandclare · 28/10/2020 09:32

Demountables in South Wales

wizzler · 28/10/2020 09:32

I've no idea why but in the 1970s the one at my school was the Hengis. May not have been spelt like that!

Terrapins in 1980s Wales

frazzledasarock · 28/10/2020 09:34

Huts at my school.

And they were there for years. We used to sit in coats and gloves with portable heaters in there during winter. Our form teacher would whizz through the registration so we could get inside to the warm building quickly.

ApocalypseNowt · 28/10/2020 09:34

Terrapins- 90's in the northwest

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 28/10/2020 09:34

Mobiles - I remember dreading Maths in 'The Mobile' because it was either freezing or the heaters were blasting out and it was absolutely boiling, no in between at all!

DaisyFamily · 28/10/2020 09:34

We call them mobiles at my school
