What can pesto be used for apart from stirring into pasta ?

Just that really. I'm sure there must be other culinary possibilities and there's more than one kind of pesto; I usually get the traditional green variety. Thankyou.

You could put it on top of pizza instead of tomato sauce. Or on a flatbread type thing.

My DCs like it in a panini with chicken and mozzarella

Top cod fillets or salmon with it. Or tuna steaks. Delicious with couscous and roast vegetables.

As a topping or stuffing for chicken.

Pollynextdoor · 21/10/2020 18:01

Chilli pesto 😋
Pesto crusted cod or salmon 😋😋

Rqiuta · 21/10/2020 18:01

Stir into mashed potato, delicious!

MissClementine · 21/10/2020 18:02

It can be used in small amounts with a mozzarella and tomato salad in place of or as well as basil.

Red Pesto Chicken... a family favourite!

StormBaby · 21/10/2020 18:03

In a chicken sandwich, a dollop in minestrone type soup is also nice.
With red pesto, I make a paste coating for lamb with cumin, paprika, cinnamon, cayenne. It’s very Moroccan style.

Halloweenies · 21/10/2020 18:03

Lightly toast slices of baguette, spread on pesto, put on a slice of mozzarella and melt it.

Also love it in paninis. Mix it into chopped up cherry tomatoes and chunks of mozzarella, tip onto salad leaves and top with avocado. Put a dollop on top of tomato soup.

Mix with cream cheese and stuff whole chicken breasts. Wrap bacon round to seal in the "sauce". Bake.

ImFree2doasiwant · 21/10/2020 18:03

Definitely top salmon with, I normally use red pesto for that.

I have a nice recipe for creamy pesto pasta which uses red pesto and creme fraiche still pasta but a variation.

SoupDragon · 21/10/2020 18:03

I'm sure I saw a recipe for 0pesto pinwheels" in my bread making book. I imagine it involved spreading the pesto on rolled out dough then rolling it up into a sausage before slicing or something.

ChickensMightFly · 21/10/2020 18:04

I use it spread on a sandwich, just thinly spread with ham+tomato or whatever.

HelloDulling · 21/10/2020 18:04

DS loves it in a cheese toastie, DD mixes it with pieces of chicken to eat with salad.

ImFree2doasiwant · 21/10/2020 18:04

Oh yes, pesto Pinwheels too. Add cheese.

AllPlayedOut · 21/10/2020 18:04

It's lovely spread on a sheet of puff pastry with peppers, red onions and other vegetables of your choice, or chicken, spinach and tomatoes then sprinkled with feta.

misstiggiwinkle · 21/10/2020 18:05

A large dollop of fresh pesto on top of a white risotto. Yum

Appuskidu · 21/10/2020 18:05

Lovely on salmon

TobblyBobbly · 21/10/2020 18:06

With tomato and mozzarella in a tricolor salad.

footprintsintheslow · 21/10/2020 18:06

You can freeze it too if you are worried about it moulding you in the open jar not being used.

Millie2013 · 21/10/2020 18:07

I stir it through homemade tomato soup ❤️

DuckonaBike · 21/10/2020 18:08

Mixed with chopped new potatoes and feta and used to stuff peppers. We had this last night, it’s an HFW recipe and very popular!

CloudyVanilla · 21/10/2020 18:08

Chicken, pesto and pine nut rotini

Mix green pesto with a bit of mayo, spread onto a panini and add mozzarella slices and tomato to get a coffee shop style panini :)

sarahc336 · 21/10/2020 18:08

Stir it into humous, also stuffed chicken with cheese wrapped in Parma ham, on pizza, put on potatoes before you roast them or on roasted peppers before you roast them. I think pesto is probably quite versatile x
