What can pesto be used for apart from stirring into pasta ?

Just that really. I'm sure there must be other culinary possibilities and there's more than one kind of pesto; I usually get the traditional green variety. Thankyou.

On top of salmon or chicken breasts with crumbled feta, chopped cherry toms and chopped black olives. Stick in oven for 20 mins (salmon) or 30 (chicken). Serve with those microwave rice pouches- tomato and basil gos well.

Thankyou all. I didn't realise there were so many possibilities. I only started thinking about this earlier when I began stirring everything together and mused there must be other ways.

I had a cheese and pesto toastie today 😂

Also ass a spoonful to jacket potato and cheese.
If you get ready roll pastry you can use it to make all sorts, swirls, staws...etc

I also mix it with peas and edamame beans as a side to main meals. Very tasty.

I stir it in with tomatoes to make a yummy pasta sauce

TicTacTwo · 21/10/2020 18:11

When my kids liked Dr Seuss I used to mix it into omelettes to make Green Eggs and Ham

AdaColeman · 21/10/2020 18:11

Use instead of garlic butter in a baguette to go with soup.

Stir some into risotto or noodles.

Swirl into mashed potatoes.

Add some when making fish cakes or fish pie.

Use as a dressing for things like lentil salad or cous-cous.

Add some to finish soups such as gazpacho or minestrone.

You can use it anywhere where you want a bit of herb flavour.

I put a very thin layer of red pesto in a dish and top with veggies (Or pasta) and then a layer of cheese sauce and bake. It bubbles through mmmmmmmm.

In a similar vein, stir it, along with some mozzarella, through some scrambled eggs.
BreakfastOfWaffles · 21/10/2020 18:14

Use it as the base in Asparagus and pomegranate puff pastry tart

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 21/10/2020 18:14

I make a very tasty and easy dinner called chorizo and butter bean stew - literally just a tin of tomatoes, sliced chorizo, tin of butter beans and a couple of spoonfuls of pesto. Lovely with bread.

hodgepodge21 · 21/10/2020 18:15

I do quesadillas with pesto. Pop a layer of pesto on a wrap, top with roasted veg/chicken etc, then a load of mozzarella. Top with another wrap and fry in a pan. So good!

Alwayscheerful · 21/10/2020 18:16

Swirled through humous, delicious,
Also stirred in new potatoes .

Sandytoes86 · 21/10/2020 18:17

Spread on chicken breasts in an over dish , add a can or two of tinned tomatos and some herbs , pop in oven for 40 mins or so and serve with rice

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 21/10/2020 18:19

Spread Philadelphia on Crackerbread then a thin spread of pesto on top of the Philadelphia, then chop with sliced cherry tomatoes.

Graphista · 21/10/2020 18:24

LOADS!

On toast, with cheese if you like, lush with poached or fried eggs

In sandwiches instead of butter or mayo

On crackers with a wee slice of smoked cheese and sundried tomato or any number of other toppings

In mash (trust me!)

On pizza - just dot it on, lovely Or instead of the tomato base sauce

In stews, casseroles and soups

Stirred into couscous or rice

Instead of hollandaise sauce on bacon wrapped asparagus

As a dip or within another dip, just mix with cream cheese or yoghurt or sour cream or even a mild salsa

Salad dressing - either alone if very runny or mix with a little mayo or as for dips

As a base topping on tarts/tartlets

Mixed into quiche filling or when making omelette/frittata

LOVE pesto

AnathemaPulsifer · 21/10/2020 18:29

Use as a dip for cauliflower, or stir through mushrooms.

ShalomToYouJackie · 21/10/2020 18:43

Pesto on top of a salmon or cod fillet with potato's and veg, on a pizza, in a cheese and tomato toastie, in a mozzarella stuffed chicken breast. Maybe in a frittata?

CoronaIsWatching · 21/10/2020 18:44

Love Lidl red pesto mmmm

ladybee28 · 21/10/2020 18:50

I mix it in with rice and then top with salmon, peas, grilled courgette and top with some parmesan shavings - like a pasta dish but with rice as the base instead.

Fresh, lovely. Making me hungry now!

Pickle2828 · 21/10/2020 18:52

Mixed with cream cheese and stirred through sautéed courgettes, leeks, mushrooms and sliced green beans, creamy and delicious! Add garlic to make it extra yummy!

AestheticWitch · 21/10/2020 18:53

New potatoes, green beans, bacon, parmesan, hey pesto!

SisterAgatha · 21/10/2020 18:53

I put it in roasted vegetables, or in to sauces.

Juanmorebeer · 21/10/2020 18:56

In scrambled eggs or an omelette. On top of pork steaks/chops.
Mixed with olive oil and vinegar to make a very nice salad dressing.
I love pesto.
