Do you have a hobby?

Looking for some inspiration here, and making a wishlist on the eve of stricter lockdowns for when this all is over.

So, what are your hobbies? What do you wish your hobbies could be?

My hobbies are reading and running Smile

FromTheAllotment · 17/10/2020 08:55

Theoretically writing... if I die without ever managing to finish a book I will be disappointed. But finding the energy/time is HARD.

MyTelescopeBroke · 17/10/2020 10:07

I play bass guitar in a band, which is my main hobby. Or it was until March... 🙄

I've previously played clarinet and guitar in bands and sung in a choir.

I had Lindy Hop lessons until a couple of years ago.

I do yoga and swimming too.

I had tons before my twins were born - don’t get much time these days. Knitting, crochet, cross stitch, paper cutting and cake decorating - just started knitting and crochet again recently, have made them toys for their birthday each year, haven’t had much time for anything else!

They are starting school soon and I am looking forward to getting back to papercutting and my little online business selling templates. I used to sell finished pieces but again no time now.

I did some drawing and watercolour courses online recently - I can’t draw so it’s been a challenge but fun. Maybe I’ll do more of that but I’m not very good at it and I’m impatient 😂

How do I learn to knit?

FallonsTeaRoom · 17/10/2020 15:34

Too many! Knitting, crochet, quilling, sewing, tapestry, glass fusing (very addictive, very expensive!) reading, renovating a dolls’ house (15 years in and not finished), jigsaws, clay modelling...

I've become a speedy whizz at housework to free up time for my crafts! Grin

@orchidsonabudget

How do I learn to knit?
When I learnt I used the videos on knittinghelp.com (I think) - now several years on I knit crazily complex things but took me a while to get the hang of it.

Found it a lot of easier when I learnt the continental method rather than English method.

How do I learn to knit?

There are loads of videos on YouTube to get you started, or buy a beginner's knitting book (or get one from the library). I didn't learn to knit until I was in my late 30s. I started with beginner videos etc and can now make socks, jumpers etc.

Shannith · 17/10/2020 16:19

And baking and I love cooking but I do that all the time so don't view it as a hobby as such

fallfallfall · 17/10/2020 16:32

Surprised it’s not been mentioned yet; cardmaking.

SpeedofaSloth · 17/10/2020 17:05

I recommend Knitty Gritty by Aneeta Patel for beginning to knit.

Redwolf1 · 17/10/2020 17:14

Crochet, clay pigeon shooting, brush lettering, painting by numbers

I dont know whether to say running, I enjoy it guess but if I could be fit and keep the weight off without it I probably wouldnt bother

MrsGulDukat · 17/10/2020 17:26

I write Fanfiction and my own little project sci-fi novel. (If only I had some blood ideas for it)

Ilovesausages · 17/10/2020 17:31

Can baking be counted as a hobby? If so baking. I love it and I’m fairly proficient.

I’m also dieting so that’s tricky.

I’ve recently been getting into cycling again. Want to get back into horse riding once I’ve lost weight.

I love swimming. Hiking.

Used to be crafty but not right now

Walking my dogs;

Planning the next trip away in our Campervan and getting away as much as possible for days out, weekends away and longer trips; and

Playing my grand piano.

Dog walking, genealogy, some gaming...

Anordinarymum · 18/10/2020 00:49

@Dowser

Dowsing. Been doing it 8 years
Ooohh I like the sound of that. I am one of those people who knows when I am near to water. I just 'feel' it. Do you use two sticks ?
Itsagrandoldteam · 18/10/2020 00:52

I play golf, we all play golf in our house, we are all pretty good at it.
In the winter when we can't play golf I usually swim instead at the local gym, not sure if I can do that this year though.

I love watching my team play football, can't do that either.

Dawnlassie · 18/10/2020 01:03

I make models out of large potatoes.

toiletpaper · 18/10/2020 01:05

Plane spotting 🤓 I'm terrified of flying though! I'd love to learn the piano but I don't even have room for a dishwasher in my house so I definitely won't have room for a piano Sad
