We've polished off our hotel breakfasts, flocked to the beaches and eaten out to help out with Rishi. Now the D-Day style floatilla of Anti-Dementor boats weather the stormy seas of tiers 1, 2 and 3 and support each other through the calls for lockdown.

Hold on tight and get those bouyancy aids on...

@justasking111 I read an article about how once you have a cold your body is ready to fight the next infection because your immune system is pepped up which means that the next cold you get you suffer a bit less but obviously with everybody being locked up we haven't had that exposure so once the children went back to school around near us there was a rotten cold which lasted a couple of weeks
So in actual fact by locking us up and away from each other, it's actually making our bodies less able to easily fight off viruses and the like.

justasking111 · 20/10/2020 21:55

@Vintagelovingmum no chance of that here. Grand children we collect from school have already given us one cold. They now have another one which after them sleeping over last night I daresay we will be sneezing and coughing again in a few days Grin

It is not just Wales that hibernates, cornwall, the peak district etc, all have such small populations in the winter, we had a flu spike in May here having avoided it all winter. GP said the holiday makers do bring in the lurgies when they return

HeIenaDove · 20/10/2020 21:58

I just read the Manchester thread, Bloody hell.

And a friend of mine who is epileptic and exempt from mask wear is constantly being asked to prove it

BogRollBOGOF · 20/10/2020 22:02

I can't remember how many colds we've got through this term, but they've got milder each time although DS2 is streaming more than Netflix again. This evening's constant sniffing and snorting may have been more than my tattered, hormonal nerves have been able to take. I'm not often shouty unless it's between 8:44 & 8:54 am

I think today has been my worst mood yet.

@TheOrchidKiller

Our tutor was telling us about the life classes she runs. Lots of nudey people but they were wearing masks!

This has made me laugh. I mean, it's ridiculous, but still funny. I can't help thinking of "You can leave your hat on" in The Full Monty.
Lowering the tone again, sorry.

We watched that film the other day. I was feeling particularly down and it felt like the right kind of ridiculous to cheer me up Grin
amicissimma · 20/10/2020 22:34

Masks for art, you say ...

Mmn

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 20/10/2020 22:47

I try to use a scarf when my lanyard is likely to cause issues. We have face shields mounted on glasses frames at work and these are the next-most comfortable solution I've found.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Howyoualldoworkme · 20/10/2020 23:07

TheOrchidKiller That made me chuckle.
I told the tutor she should get the models to be more creative with where they put their masks Grin
(note to self, sign up for life drawing next term)

justasking111 · 20/10/2020 23:12

more creative with masks agreed.

justasking111 Hmm, should I use charcoal or a nice hard pencil?

AgentCooper · 20/10/2020 23:23

I swear to God. I follow an American parenting page on Facebook and they posted an article about the importance of mask wearing. One woman comments that if she goes into a shop and there are maskless customers she loudly says oh I can’t shop here because of the Covidiots. Firstly, anyone using the word ‘Covidiots’ needs booted. Secondly, imagine how dreadful that would make someone feel if they were medically exempt? Stupid, self righteous cunts.

And another woman talking about how it’s been a challenge to get her toddler to wear a mask but she’s persevered because it’s so important. Jesus. If toddlers can go to nursery without masks then they can go to the fucking shops. The first time in many months I’ve been grateful to be in the U.K. My three year old barely consents to wearing clothes, he would never wear a mask. He clearly has sensory issues (but haven’t seen the HV since 500 BC so fuck knows) and it would be utter cruelty to force that on him. We would never leave the house.

Sorry, rant over. I just needed somewhere safe to talk about this.

justasking111 · 20/10/2020 23:32

My friends daughter in USA Miami where to be fair it has been awful ventured out after months with a toddler and a baby who both wore masks. I was speechless with shock.

MaxNormal · 20/10/2020 23:59

@HeIenaDove the covid board has been horrific today and this evening, just absolutely awful. Some of the comments about Manchester...
Got in a proper sweary fight with someone, slightly surprised I've not been given a one week ban or something and think its time I take a break myself or at least stop looking at that horrible covid section.

HeIenaDove · 21/10/2020 00:09

Did my October walk up to Lidl to take advantage of their middle aisle offer on Beanies Coffee today. Bought Pumpkin Spice and Cinder Toffee flavours which ive had before and also Creamy Caramel which ive yet to try.

I always pop up there to stock up for Halloween and Christmas and last year i went up in December as well and got the Gingerbread one which was alright but wasnt all that.

They do flavours like Mulled Wine and Christmas Pudding for Xmas usually but i know i wouldnt like those.

HeIenaDove · 21/10/2020 00:21

@MaxNormal i think it may be because #BorisHasFailedTheNation is trending again on Twitter. but yes i agree. Manchester has been treated atrociously and the comments are appalling.

MaxNormal · 21/10/2020 00:27

@HeIenaDove do you think it's an invasion?
And honestly if I never hear about WWII again in relation to covid it will be too soon...
But on a happier note that's a great heads up about the coffee. I have to agree that Mulled Wine doesn't sound quite the thing though.

HeIenaDove · 21/10/2020 00:47

Just catching up with the BBC News Special from earlier Burnham has tried so hard.

Apparently some members of the public were asked to describe how they feel now in three words, Heres mine
Really Fucked Off.

HeIenaDove · 21/10/2020 00:48

Speaking of WW2 what ive seen doing the rounds is a pic of Anne Frank with the caption
Remember those who reported her were obeying the law.
And those who were hiding her were breaking the law.

HeIenaDove · 21/10/2020 00:53

BBC News were talking about compliance a lot

IMO expecting families not to see each other at Christmas is too big an ask.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/10/2020 05:18

I've been awake since just before 4....again. This used to happen loads at the start of lockdown and between lockdown and work I was so close to just burning out. Thank god I've half term booked off.

Feel so cross after last night's press conference. The hospital slides all showed the overwhelming majority of hospitalisations are in the 65-85+ age group. Is this not the group that you would expect to see in hospital at this time of year with flu? I know I sound like an incredibly ageist bitch but I'm probably not explaining myself too well.
Also the slides showing rate of growth strongly looks like its levelling off....or am I missing something?

Also, I know its irrational but it irks the shit out of me when they call Peofessor Van Tam JVT.
Yes that may be what he prefers to be called by his mates but ffs you are the fucking prime minister addressing the nation in the midst of a crisis, not a kid in a high school playground.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/10/2020 06:15

@MaxNormal
I started reading over breakfast and am totally aghast that you are the only person who picked up on this
Manchester have acted very badly they have always been grabby. After the Arndale bombing they received more money than was necessary

ISaySteadyOn · 21/10/2020 06:29

Shock Was that on the Covid boards? I hid them.

And, even though I know some of you will disagree, I don't think masks should ever have been compulsory. I have come to the conclusion that forced masking is morally, ethically, environmentally (every day, I pick up a stupid amount of mask litter when I go to the park) and psychologically wrong. Having said that, because I am a grownup and not a twit (or I try not to be), I don't attack people wearing masks. If people want to wear them, crack on. No problem. But no one should be forced to cover their face.

ISaySteadyOn · 21/10/2020 06:34

And @HelenaDove, none of that should happen to your friend. It's wrong.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/10/2020 06:37

@ISaySteadyOn
Yup. It was a comment on a Manchester thread.

What made me smile was a comment from MNHQ asking for peace and love. On the Covid Board? Fat fucking chance.
