We've polished off our hotel breakfasts, flocked to the beaches and eaten out to help out with Rishi. Now the D-Day style floatilla of Anti-Dementor boats weather the stormy seas of tiers 1, 2 and 3 and support each other through the calls for lockdown.

Hold on tight and get those bouyancy aids on...

@TheOrchidKiller

Evening, weary troopers.

There's a low level depression at work, everyone is just waiting for our next battering. Almost phoned in sick today but got dressed & went in. Felt much better when I uncovered some ADs & we had a rant in the staff room. One of the most chilled people had been upset by the building's chief dementor, who had complained that we are all using too much soap.

You can't make this stuff up.

I am horribly weary as well. My employer is sort of behaving OK, but they are still expecting us to be running in crisis mode and I can't do that anymore
DisgruntledGuineaPig · 20/10/2020 18:50

Manchester has made me so sad. Could this be a tipping point? There seems to be a lot of anger, not as much "well we all must do whatever it takes!"

I am doing Halloween and bon fire night before Christmas. But then I'm stocking up early.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 20/10/2020 18:52

I've not posted in ADs before, but I'm so glad you're here.
Lockdown and all the restrictions have played absolute merry hell with my mental health. My already small stock of resilience disappeared ages ago; every new restriction and disappointment is now scraping away at my very being as there's no longer anything there to protect it.

I can't even confide in most of my friends as I'm just so far out of step with their thinking, it's not worth it. I'm being made to feel like some sort of irresponsible psychopath who wants all old and disabled people to die, just because all I want is to move through my world reasonably freely.

TheOrchidKiller · 20/10/2020 18:54

I find the masks outdoor pictures irritating too. But I'm not convinced there's an agenda, I think it's just a bit of laziness.

Back in the spring/summer, maybe there was a push to get us used to masks because they were still a rare sight outside of a hospital. But I think stock photos of people wearing masks, sunbathing in a park, was just a cliched way to illustrate a covid story. Now I think they are still using the pictures out of laziness.

I do see more people wearing masks outside but TBH I think for a lot of people, it's convenience. I don't like wearing them in shops much but find myself keeping the bloody thing on between shops if it's just for a moment, or when pushing a trolley back to the car, rather than grapple with mask/keys/trolley etc. So maybe photos of people shopping in towns outside in masks is just a reflection of that?

I don't know. I don't know what to think anymore.

ISaySteadyOn · 20/10/2020 19:01

I hate the masks. I hate not seeing people's faces. Maybe it's my autism but it makes me feel really unsettled.

I go nowhere now because of them and because I am afraid of being attacked as in so many of Helena's links. It's really messed with my head.

TheOrchidKiller · 20/10/2020 19:07

@TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain
You will definitely not be considered a psychopath on here. Welcome.

@NothingIsWrong

Back in April someone sent me a link (long deleted) to an article by a GP who was warning about Covid Fatigue. This is where you run in crisis mode in response to covid, covid is in your face all the time, the restrictions & having to live so differently is tiring, & you get knackered & weary. You don't need to be working in ITU to get covid fatigue. Anyone can get it.

I think that now we are all suffering from it. It doesn't matter how or why you are worn out from it. Unfortunately, when I read the article it was still early days & we were sold the "we can turn this thing around in 12 weeks" line. It felt doable then. It's still going on, & it doesn't help if those around you are still expecting you to be in hyper-mode.

I don't have an answer to dealing with covid fatigue. It does help to acknowledge it exists, & as another colleague reminded me, we are not weak for struggling.

TheOrchidKiller · 20/10/2020 19:15

@ISaySteadyOn
Just wanted to say I hate wearing masks too, & I don't judge anyone for wearing them or not wearing them. I hope what I said about the photos of masks didn't come across as me thinking we should all just put up with it & it's easy, because I know it isn't. I get irritated with myself for keeping it on when I'm outside.

I agree with you about feeling unsettled.

The attacks on people is unforgiveable. I also really dislike the stupid slogans like "wearing is caring". Saw that one last week & wanted to cry.

WouldBeGood · 20/10/2020 19:17

Hello @TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain 😊

ISaySteadyOn · 20/10/2020 19:39

@TheOrchidKiller, no, it didn't come across that way at all. It made me feel ok to post as above.

@TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain, you are not a psychopath or heartless. Wanting to live your life is reasonable. Welcome to you. We are all sympathetic here.

Evenstar · 20/10/2020 20:02

I read the following from someone who lives in Lancashire, people in a local Facebook group were blaming the rise in cases on “selfish people”

“ Not necessarily selfish people... people who have been tried, tested, stretched, lied to, blamed, isolated, ignored, lost their livelihoods, suffered ailments other than Covid and desperately tried to muddle through the never-ending changes in "guidelines" and "laws"... as always, instead of starting to turn on each other and brandishing society as "selfish" or "uncaring" remember there's always more going on than merely a list of numbers on the BBC.”

This virus doesn’t make moral judgements so why do people feel the need to blame those who have it or even those who have passed it on unknowingly. Yes some people have behaved irresponsibly, but most people have done their best and people who can stick to all the ever changing guidelines and still have food on the table should check their privilege.

Howyoualldoworkme · 20/10/2020 20:21

Well yesterday was a good day. DH and I needed a bit of a boost since coming back from lovely relaxed Italy and our drawing classes at the local arts centre have restarted!
Limited numbers and sat further apart but such fun and lots of chat. Everyone was supposed to wear masks but that soon went out the window as we all had miraculously long lasting coffees!
Our tutor was telling us about the life classes she runs. Lots of nudey people but they were wearing masks!
Only problem was we had to draw bloody trees and I prefer drawing things with faces Smile

Today I was talking to my son who lives in Pembrokeshire. His shop will close on Friday as it's not essential but he'll be working from home on the helpline. The grandchildren are off school too.
He definitely thinks it'll be more than two weeks and he doesn't think people will be allowed into Wales for quite a while Sad

BogRollBOGOF · 20/10/2020 20:27

Welcome TheSmallClanger. Wanting to get on with living is not synoymous with being a psycopathic granny killer in this thread.

I feel like we're being constantly groomed for the next Bad Thing at the moment. Wearing your hanky constantly outside... Localised restrictions... too many cycles where these things seem to be casually suggested, then 3 weeks later and bam it's your "new normal"

DM used to do art classes. She had one in my school when I was a 6th former, so I got paid a fiver to go and sit for them (clothed!) during one of my free periods Grin

Yet another person attacked for not wearing a mask Seems to be escalating...................www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/local-news/london-bridge-train-station-attack-19132824

DominaShantotto · 20/10/2020 20:41

Of course it's escalating - turn the masked against the maskless and keep them busy fighting among themselves and worrying about doing the "wrong" thing... then no one spots the double standards, the contracts for mates, the shitstorm of Brexit looming large.

We've been pitted and nudged against each other this entire pandemic - occasional outbreaks of everyone being pretty unanimously pissed off at Cummings and the like - but keep us scared, keep us fighting among ourselves - call those saying "err but.." covid denying trump supporters to shut them up.

It's beyond fucking dystopian.

Evenstar · 20/10/2020 20:42

The man they are looking for wasn’t even wearing his own mask properly

To make matters worse the Mail was running a story about people buying sunflower lanyards and exemption cards on EBay today, so that is really going to help those of us who are unable to wear masks 😢

Yep - I try to suffer through the mask rather than wear the lanyard as they are now attracting so much hate it makes the scheme pretty much worthless. I've pushed myself to the point of nearly vomiting a few times.
justasking111 · 20/10/2020 20:49

grandson said last night age 5 the goverment were making us stay home to keep us safe. Heart breaking comment from a babe.

What worries me about Wales and keeping locked down on and off in the winter is this. We barely see visitors from November till easter, so when we hopefully get an influx next year having lived in this covid free bubble for six months we will be hit harder health wise than england who are cracking on with rising cases and some deaths throughout the winter.

Evenstar · 20/10/2020 20:55

It should never have been the case that compulsory masks were brought in without a proper means of being exempt.

@DominaShantotto I don’t know if you would find it any better but I have managed one of these for a few minutes in places I don’t think the lanyard would be acceptable, I can’t do it if I have to move around, but sometimes helpful if you really have to.

I feel so vulnerable going anywhere now.

This has made me laugh. I mean, it's ridiculous, but still funny. I can't help thinking of "You can leave your hat on" in The Full Monty.
Lowering the tone again, sorry.

I have one of those! They are brilliant, I find my glasses don't steam up and they are really breathable, and they keep your neck warm! Also when you take the face covering bit off, it sort of blends in with the scarf bit and you don't look like a twat.
