We've polished off our hotel breakfasts, flocked to the beaches and eaten out to help out with Rishi. Now the D-Day style floatilla of Anti-Dementor boats weather the stormy seas of tiers 1, 2 and 3 and support each other through the calls for lockdown.

Hold on tight and get those bouyancy aids on...

@TrustTheGeneGenie

Doesn't everyone know that ITUs are usually v small units with small amounts of beds? They fill quickly at the best of times don't they. It's not unusual. I do think "the hospitals are full" is a scare tactic. A quick Google tells me our local hospital has 4 ICU beds. A bad rta would fill them quite easily.
This! They are at the same game over here. Trying to terrify people. Now we are heading into a 6 week lockdown. I could weep.
Blobby10 · 20/10/2020 08:54

MaudesMum agree wholeheartedly. The Govt could get a whole heap of co-operation back if they just let us know what their target is. Is it zero infections (nigh on impossible) zero deaths (ditto) figures below a certain number -- at what point do we say its not a pandemic any more? Why are they still insisting on muzzles when the number of infections has gone up since they became compulsory in shops ?

Its not just the UK though - it seems that no Government in the world knows what to do !

@HeIenaDove

Some posters absolutely salivating at the thought of a Christmas lockdown.
Would make the Eastenders Christmas Special a bit of a damp squib - traditionally that follows the "this is gonna be the best Christmas ever with the fairmly" > bombshell dropped over the turkey > someone gets walloped routine.
BogRollBOGOF · 20/10/2020 09:49

Thanks for that giggle Grin

Having a hormonal, weapy, angry day. Any posts may be liberally punctuated with lots of lovely theraputic swear words.

Fucking autumn walks are particularly triggering. Ironically I want to do one a bit later, but that's not involving young children and expecting it to gleefully cure all ills.

There’s an Arabian fairytale which tells the story of meeting the plague on the way to kill ten thousand people, one million died and when the plague was challenged he said he kept his word, plague killed 10 thousand, fear killed the rest.
I may have got the numbers slightly wrong but the gist right.

AcornAutumn · 20/10/2020 11:05

Recycled that’s interesting, Do you know the name of it by any chance?

Taswama · 20/10/2020 11:07

I have found a fellow AD in real life!! Another mum not wearing mask outside the school. Agrees with me that it is unnecessary.

Re what is the benefit to the government on keeping Covid in the news- it is what is not being reported on? German newspaper we read regularly had an article about how the fact we are basically no dealing on Brexit is nowhere to be seen on our front pages as all the coverage is about Covid.

Reedwarbler · 20/10/2020 11:36

Yes, we'll, it suits the government to keep bad news buried. It is deliberate I think.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/10/2020 12:08

By the wonders of bluetooth headphones, I've managed to shift my mood to something more functional with a loud silent mosh to Marlyn Manson in the kitchen. Glad DH didn't walk in the kitchen to see me thrashing around with my eyes shut remembering being 20 years younger in Rock City, pissed on cheap alcohol and having my ear drums blasted out.
In good news, my kitchen floor isn't as sticky as the Rock City floor built up generations of spilt booze as it was then. Grin

OP I must be honest

Grid yourself

Back in the day, if I walked into a bar and the floor was sticky, I’d walk out again!

AcornAutumn · 20/10/2020 12:11

The Rock City floor was so legendary they auctioned off pieces of it once they ripped it up the other year.

@Taswama my OH brother is working in a big bank on something to do with Brexit strategy and they are highly delighted that Covid is keeping Brexit off the front pages. He said its a massive shitstorm within a bigger shitstorm and the panic over Covid is enabling things to be pushed through that probably shouldn't have been! No idea if he's telling the truth but he is pretty high up the pecking order so I feel he knows what he's talking about.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 20/10/2020 13:24

I watched Newsnight last night government figures counter figures from Manchester - it was hard to know what was true but even the conservative MPs and NHs people up there seem to doubt the government strategy and figures. DH thinks they’ve made it an issue and have decided they can’t back down.

The BBC had graphs the day before showing the infection rate was falling from the peak - it has one of the biggest student populations in Europe in one city so imagine that hugely contributed to infection rates - yesterday evening government ministers were suddenly all about the over 65s per 100,000 figures and not the entire population per 100,000 figures.

The local new headlines were all Wales cancels Halloween and bonfire night – we’re still doing stuff all within the rules of course

Our kids had been told at school about two-week lockdown – they seemed resigned. Youngest now Y7 will be in second week other two at home.

I’m glad we let DD1 paint and redo her room this summer and that other two were sorted out with desks we also recently got another laptop so they all have decent enough ones now - not least as DH is now having very loud meetings nearly all day - so at least they can be upstairs away a bit.

justasking111 · 20/10/2020 13:25

smoke an mirrors re brexit, while covid storms forward. It is all a crock. Those poor bastards in Ireland with a six week lock down for a handful of deaths.

NastyBlouse · 20/10/2020 13:32

I was never really a rocker, but hung around with the rocker/ alternative types and prefered it to the Trendy/ Townie type scene. Sometimes I am just in the mood for it which has happened quite a few times recently.

I'll have a listen, goodness knows how I need some fresh input in life.

This isn’t where I originally found it, that was on an Arab stories site, but it gives you the basic bones of the story, interesting article too.

DominaShantotto · 20/10/2020 14:37

BBC news reporting Bozo press conference at 5, and Wanksock in the Commons at 7pm. Never good news.

They've concluded their willy waving fight over Manchester as well - they're getting hit with the tier 3 willy.

JamSarnie · 20/10/2020 14:51

Just looked at the bbc website and given that the London major wants to scrap 10pm pub curfew, demand for some regions to be removed from Liverpool tier three catchment area and the scrap over Manchester tiers this all seems to be unravelling for the government.

I predict a shit storm about to happen.

Sadly I don't think people have the fight left in them. I'd love it to all go spectacularly tits up but at the end of the day they're all fatcats with their noses in the trough and will look after themselves first.

I feel sick. I woke up this morning with my heart racing after another nightmare and it's continued most of the day.

ISaySteadyOn · 20/10/2020 14:54

Last night, I dreamed I went to the library. There were no prebookings and no masks and everyone was sitting at tables with books and smiling at each other.

When I woke up, I cried. Crying now typing this. I feel hopeless. Nothing will come back really, will it? No one will let it.

DominaShantotto · 20/10/2020 14:55

I agree. I can't see a way back from this.

I've just come back from the GPs (I had to drop a form in as I'm applying for a parking permit as there's no way I can cope with the trains with these panic attacks) and you can just see it in people's body language - they're broken.

ISaySteadyOn · 20/10/2020 15:12

Last night, I dreamed I went to Manderley again...

Feels like that.
