We've polished off our hotel breakfasts, flocked to the beaches and eaten out to help out with Rishi. Now the D-Day style floatilla of Anti-Dementor boats weather the stormy seas of tiers 1, 2 and 3 and support each other through the calls for lockdown.

Hold on tight and get those bouyancy aids on...

Ooh Helena, that's exciting and won't jam A&E depts with skating injuries Grin

Interesting because we have a similar set up with skating here every Christmas but I can't see the council going for it this year.

MissEWeatherwax · 19/10/2020 17:54

We’re going to need a bigger fridge and ton of ice cream. Can I have crisps , please?

DominaShantotto · 19/10/2020 17:56

Meeting with course leader in a couple of days about the mean girl crew doing all their seminars together. Terrified I've done the wrong thing!

WouldBeGood · 19/10/2020 17:57

@HeIenaDove

Im seeing more comments on Twitter saying that the NHS should be protecting the people not the other way around. Different to March
@Helena I wholehearted agree with that. It’s not a gift to us, we pay for it!! Thirty years taxes here, just treat me if I’m ill 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've always found NHS worship odd. It's an ok system, staffed by a mixture of brilliant people, ordinary people, and terrible people. Like all healthcare systems. It's free at the point of use, like most healthcare systems in Western nations (and many non-Western). It's much better than the system in the US, but that's almost uniquely dysfunctional. Back when I worked with a lot of Europeans, they were very disparaging of the NHS - they all thought their systems were better (although it would be only fair to note that they tend to pay a higher proportion of GDP for them.)

Our festive rink bit the dust a couple of years ago. It was a good night out and we took the Brownies most years.

Last year we had ££,£££ spent on an "artistic installation" of "interactive musical/ light" presents. The photos of them in a soggy, deserted market place next to two defunct theatres was depressingly good practice for Christmas 2020!

I usually have several wine free evenings a week, Monday being one of them. I've just had 2 glasses of sauvignon blanc and I really don't give a fuck anymore. What is the point of healthy living and abstinence when everything is so shitty? I am sitting here with my noise cancelling headphones on so I can't hear the news my h is watching next door in the kitchen. I really think all this is turning me a bit peculiar!

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 19/10/2020 18:45

Ooh, I really need to go buy a firepit this week, dont I? Also possibly fireworks...

Definitely need to buy Halloween decorations. Fuck the joyless types who think that everyone will die if dcs who are all in school mixing anyway ring their classmates doorbell and get given a fun-sized mars bar.

TabbyStar · 19/10/2020 18:56

Sounds like the right thing to do to me Domina but then not understanding that being able to learn is an opportunity that many people don't get and making the most of it is one of my bugbears; there were an awful lot of students who didn't really show any interest when I did my degree and it does spoil it for those of us who are actually interested.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/10/2020 19:20

My issue when I did my degree in the early years of email and t'internet was that the course had grown rapidly and I was never the first to get hold of the recommended journals afterwards and there just weren't enough physical resorces to go round double the numbers of a year or two earlier. Academic materials hadn't really made their way into digital form then.

ReedWarbler “ What is the point of healthy living and abstinence when everything is so shitty?”

This. I’ve started to have a drink every night, barely touched it before.

I realise this will become two, and three....but why worry?

Bottoms up 🍸

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/10/2020 19:52

Can I join you all please? I've just about had enough and to top it off I had a crap visit to the dentist today (private obviously which I can't afford)!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 19/10/2020 19:59

Was listening to music in my car on the way home from work tonight and Violet Hill by Coldplay came on....

Clearly I remember
From the windows they were watching
While we froze down below

When the future's architecture
By a carnival of idiots on show
You'd better lie low

A carnival of idiots.....sounds quite apt really now.

ISaySteadyOn · 19/10/2020 20:02

Indeed. Welcome @PinkSparklyPussyCat!
Sorry about the dentist, I can empathise.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/10/2020 20:15

Thanks @ISaySteadyOn. I was on the earlier AD threads but got lost somewhere along the way. I need some sanity now!

HeIenaDove · 19/10/2020 20:28

Hi @PinkSparklyPussyCat Flowers I joined these threads because of the worrying strength of the mask exemption hatred.

HeIenaDove · 19/10/2020 20:30

The Specials Ghost Town.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/10/2020 20:39

It's crazy isn't it Helena. I was reading today about a man being punched in the face for removing his mask to talk to his deaf 90 year old mother.

HeIenaDove · 19/10/2020 20:47

@PinkSparklyPussyCat Do you have a link for that.

TheOrchidKiller · 19/10/2020 20:55

@DominaShantotto you are doing the right thing. Those mean girls will need to work in collaboration with other people, & be inclusive when they eventually graduate, so they might as well get used to behaving like professionals now.

Had DM on the phone dithering about meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow. They live in a low case area. I said, "for God's sake, go! I'd give my eye teeth to be able to sit inside with a friend!" She said she was worried about catching covid. I said better to live happily than to die miserable, to which DF shouted in the background, "that's what I said!"

Had a bit of a poignant chat with DF about getting out now & making the most of things whilst we still can. I have no idea of if or when we will see each other.

HeIenaDove · 19/10/2020 21:01

Some posters absolutely salivating at the thought of a Christmas lockdown.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/10/2020 21:11

HelenaDove I'm sure some of them are beside themselves at the thought they might be able to shop a neighbour.
