We've polished off our hotel breakfasts, flocked to the beaches and eaten out to help out with Rishi. Now the D-Day style floatilla of Anti-Dementor boats weather the stormy seas of tiers 1, 2 and 3 and support each other through the calls for lockdown.

Hold on tight and get those bouyancy aids on...

Fucks sake. Let's place bets on how long it take Boris to follow suit.

Wheytaminute · 19/10/2020 12:55

Ugh another week of this.

My good news was that I had a fab weekend. Met my friends for (outdoor) lunch and had a great time catching up. What's App isn't the same. Also went out for food and drinks with DH. I think we were just so relieved that the bars can stay open in our area that we thought we should use them. All seems pretty quiet though. Indoors is family households only so that isn't going to draw many punters for the local boozer. Plus last orders at 9.30pm?

MissEWeatherwax · 19/10/2020 12:57

I feel the NE is definitely going in tier 3. Hopefully the university students will start to get a bit of herd immunity. Was talking to my cousin, in the middle of the town centre, and she told me her friend’s son has Covid. He’s in a bubble with 7 and 5 have it, 4 no symptoms. The one with symptoms is fine.
I was having a clear out of my wardrobe yesterday (I am living the dream) I found my battered Mort, the first book I read. That and my DD’s baby book, I had a good cry. But I found my CD copies of some of the books. So listened to Making Money as my bedtime story.

SirSamuelVimes · 19/10/2020 13:04

I absolutely LOVE Mort, one of my favourites.

Blobby10 · 19/10/2020 13:08

Mr Drakeford said that:

People must work from home unless they are critical workers
All non-essential retail, gyms, leisure centres, bars, restaurants and hospitality must close
Community centres, libraries and recycling centres will close
All indoor and outdoor gatherings with people you don't live with are banned^

This doesn't affect me yet (until England follow suit) but yet again absolutely NO mention of manufacturing! What about miners? And the shipyards? And factories producing something other than food or medicine? Still can't believe that those in power think it is morally never mind legally right to stop people earning a living! How on earth are they supposed to pay the bills incurred from being forced to stay at home all day?!

MissEWeatherwax · 19/10/2020 13:22

I think they haven’t a clue and don’t care if you can’t work from home. My DH works in a job, you can’t do from home.
I can work from home, but need two screens and I haven’t got the kit, plus I don’t have the room. So I’m being selfish and going into the office.
I hope for Wales it is only two weeks, but I don’t believe them. Just like NE was two weeks, it’s already been longer. But have just checked and where I live, the cases have come down. And DCity have come down too, so their is a small glimmer of hope.

AcornAutumn · 19/10/2020 13:31

Selfishly, I’m wondering how the Wales lockdown affects estate agents and people looking to move. There’ll be lockdown here in England I’m wondering if it will count as essential business that’s still allowed. I’m hoping to sell my flat.

It sounds mad, but I think there will be a terrible recession for years after this which will mean moving isn’t an option.

AcornAutumn · 19/10/2020 13:32

Blobby “ This doesn't affect me yet (until England follow suit) but yet again absolutely NO mention of manufacturing! What about miners? And the shipyards? And factories producing something other than food or medicine? ”

Pretty sure they count as essential.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 19/10/2020 13:37

If your employer is allowed to open and you can't WFH, you can go work. Working in someone else's home is for emergencies only. Here's the guidance gov.wales/coronavirus-circuit-break-frequently-asked-questions

gov.wales/coronavirus-circuit-break-frequently-asked-questions

Can I move home?
Yes, if you can’t delay the moving date until after the short lockdown period is over.

Associated activities, for example, removals processes, property preparation, handover of keys, surveys and valuations can also take place in line with guidance on working in other people’s homes.

Can home viewings take place?
No. Property viewings cannot take place during the circuit breaker period and high street estate agencies are required to close. Virtual viewings can continue.

Can a mortgage survey be done at my property?
Surveyors should not enter occupied properties during the lockdown period. Vacant properties can be entered and street level surveys can take place.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 19/10/2020 13:39

x-post there - at least they got the FAQ up quickly.

TabbyStar · 19/10/2020 14:00

Surely it's really unhelpful for exam year students to be off an extra week in Wales. Being a year 11 or 13 is pretty awful.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/10/2020 14:19

Sorry for all those caught up with the Welsh lockdown. Please let it be as short as they say now...

In semi-positive news it was good to hear JV cover lonliness and its escalation as autumm/ winter develop.

Good to see more focus on the mental and physical costs of this shit-show. 6 months later than we began shouting about it, but hey better than continuing to ignore the elephant in the room.

"... recycling centres will close"

How on earth does one spread Covid at a recycling centre? Public are there for a few minutes, out of doors. Any workers - at a large facility - spread out, out of doors.

Admittedly our tip has a team of young men with iPads who peer in through the car window and ask for our details, but, as we have to book in with the car reg, that is quite unnecessary.

AcornAutumn · 19/10/2020 14:59

Lady thank you.

Re spread of Covid at tips, it’s an odd one isn’t it. I don’t know how profitable tips are, that’ll be a connection.

I know.

I must say though that since the tips opened up again it's been almost a joy to go. At first there were very long queues but now it seems that most people don't go unless they have to - I have been able to drive straight in the last couple of times I have been.

The workers don't assist - there are signs up saying that they can't - but they are still friendly and able to advise.

I would think it is an essential service to keep those staff in employment.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/10/2020 15:32

Our tip is still appointments only, book a few weeks ahead. The council reckons it's a great sucess... at not providing a service I reckon and saving money. Still got a garage full of DIY rubbish from nearly a year ago as it was too bloody wet to deal with it last winter until lockdown. Appointment times haven't come down substantially since it reopened in May/ June. It's the kind of thing you just want to load and go not pre-plan. Between that and the joys of shopping, we're having and unusually long break between DIY jobs, plus as DH doesn't really go anywhere other than for walks on top of WFH, we CBA with the disruption.

MissEWeatherwax · 19/10/2020 15:46

I would have thought recycling centres were important. Surely you de clutter when stuck at home(just me then). At ours they neither shout at you or are taking your sellable items out of your boot.
And there is more than Covid to be caught at a tip. Rats, anyone? Weil’s disease is very deadly. That was all I could think about when people were putting their shopping in shed/ garage.

HeIenaDove · 19/10/2020 16:16

Here is something that hasnt occurred to our thick Government including the Three Bellends. There will be more firework parties than usual this year. So that people can meet outside in gardens. Some of these parties will be held and organised by members of the public who have never touched a firework OR lit a bonfire in their lives. I really hope im wrong but i can foresee a slightly higher number of accidents and/or out of control bonfires this year.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 19/10/2020 16:30

I was on a thread about bonfire night - and a poster there said their Council had alreedy sent out leaflets telling everyone not to have bonfires or fireworks in their gardens because of the pressure on the fire service.

We've got a firepit - indoor fireworks to do outside, sparklers, toasting forks and food so we're sorted for bornfire night( and clam plug in for our cats ordered )and halloween is baking and scary films. We're going to try and do something with the kids even at their ages.

TheOrchidKiller · 19/10/2020 16:40

Sorry Wales.

Jeremy Vine was giving the Welsh chief medical officer a grilling, kept trying to get at the fact that they've said Welsh lockdown is for a timed period but " look at Leicester, " & how restrictions hadn't lifted there. Welsh CMO kept saying he'd been far too busy to pay any attention to Leicester, & used the word "hopefully," a lot. I bet he had his fingers crossed too.

I don't trust them when they say it's just for a few weeks. It'll happen again & again.

In other news, I (slightly tongue-in-cheek) fear for our tier 2 status thanks to people flocking to see Banksy's latest offering in our city. The photos at the weekend showed socially distanced queues. Not today as I drove past on my travels, lots of people crammed onto the pavement taking photos. Although a road accident is a more likely outcome.

110APiccadilly · 19/10/2020 16:46

The only thing that might make the Welsh Government actually end the lockdown after 2 weeks is money. They don't afaik have the money to reinstate furlough, and I don't see Westminster meekly handing it over.

TheOrchidKiller · 19/10/2020 16:54

Wanksock's supposed to be making a short statement about covid in a bit. Whatever will it be?

"We're doomed! We're all doomed!"???
"Send help & beer"?????
"Faaaaaaaarrrrrrrkkkkk!"???
"Sorry, everyone. I got it wrong."???*

(* and there go the flying pigs)

If there was ever a good time to get into a fridge with a large tub of ice cream it would be now.

HeIenaDove · 19/10/2020 17:05

Im seeing more comments on Twitter saying that the NHS should be protecting the people not the other way around. Different to March
