ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries

Oh for the good old days of a breakfast buffet.

Back when you could make plans and reasonably expect them to happen. When you could turn up spontaneously and browse or linger at your leisure. When you could meet whoever you like and give them a hug

But until those days return, here's some more AD chat about life, the universe and phallic fruits...

According to BBC: Saint Boris urges people to go to cinema.

Doesn't this seem awfully familiar, and boringly predictable? Just like he "urged" us to eat out to help out, and then blamed the public for the rise in infections. Does he really think we've forgotten that already?

SirSamuelVimes · 05/10/2020 13:57

Saint Boris can just fuck off.

justasking111 · 05/10/2020 13:58

Our local cinema there are a few stalwarts who went back, they have seen three films at cineworld each time there were only the two of them in the theatre. Cineworld are doing the right thing.

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 14:01

@Curlygirl06 I think this is what happens to the “helpers” and it’s made worse by the weird insulation of the Covid . I stopped doing some of those things when I realised o was the oldest and fattest and volunteering and it was not reciprocated when I went mental with the lockdown!

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 14:02

I’ve been to the cinema recently and it was great.hoping it stays open for this weekend

Ibake · 05/10/2020 14:03

My lovely local cinema reopened just in time for Tenet. I've gone 2-3 times a week ever since, watched a couple of crap films but some absolutely brilliant stuff too. Basically I'm watching everything they release in the vain hope that they keep going!

Went to see The Trial of the Chicago 7 last night which was excellent - and I was properly incited to protest by the end.
@Curlygirl06 my supermarket friend is in a lorra trouble. Asked a customer to put on a mask, now theyre taking legal action. Thing is she was not told about exempt folk and to assume non mask wearers were exempt. Her store is one of those wee satellite stores that we all find handy
Tbh the exemptions hadn't
been explained very well to a couple of our staff who returned from shielding/ isolating and we've had a few issues. Sometimes management is a bit shit, I've had many a conversation with them regarding things that should be done but aren't, and not necessarily covid related either.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/10/2020 14:08

The most phonecalls we had through lockdown were from church checking in!

I can't remember the last time DM rang me. I'm no great chatterbox on the phone, but I call out more than get calls in.

In the last few years as they've aged, DM and MiL have become more pronounced in their favourites and me and DH aren't top of either list.

It wasn't a revelation to me, but it did hit pretty hard around June time.

Urging us to go out? Yes, I saw that too. The cinemas are saying they've got nothing to show!
Boris's ideas smack more and more of desperation. Like another poster on here, I am almost wishing for more madness re rules and regs because every time a new edict is made all it succeeds in doing is making the government look even more stupid. E.g. today's example about children in Liverpool not being allowed to trick or treat on pain of their parents being fined.
I can't understand when we went from 'flattening the curve' to eliminating the virus in its entirety. This is never going to happen. I don't have much faith in a vaccine either. I walked past our local this morning and was looking at all the signs; 'one way', 'exit only', 'track and trace' etc etc, and I wondered if they (the signs, and also the pub) would still be there this time next year.

justasking111 · 05/10/2020 14:15

@Curlygirl06 she is suspended pending outcome of investigation. Sad

Thanks for those links and video
Very very interesting

Worldgonecrazy · 05/10/2020 14:18

DD gets two weeks for autumn half term but she is private. Local state schools in three nearest LAs get one week.

DD is actually getting three weeks this half term as we are going on holiday the week before 😎

justasking111 · 05/10/2020 14:18

Re cinemas, even netflix, amazon prime are scratching around, tv is bragging about two new series which looked good but I then found out both were cancelled after 1 series. Take two which I enjoyed 2018 then cancelled and Tommy coming out on Wednesday one series then cancelled.

Glad you found the time. Love the irish guy in it. CASEDEMIC!! His explanation that it cannot be a case unless the sample is cultured was illuminating. Reminded me of the coroners offices who were not allowed to autopsy victims thus they said learning from it.

The nub of it is unless it is cultured you do not know whether it is a live virus, dead shedding virus or just your bog standard common cold. Oxford is shouting into the void between Hancocks ears.

Here's another vid for you all. Longer as it's 30 mins but worth every second. They're having some high level meetings in Washington today and there's a supporting petition to sign the declaration if you wish.

I'm trying to pluck up the nerve to post on the Rona board as I think people need to see it. Especially the explanation that herd immunity is not 'bollox to the weak' but actually protects them sooner.

Love That!

Curly I think it's because people start to see you as the person to go to to make things right, better, get things done. You are seen as the one person capable in everything. It never crossed thier selfish minds that younare a person too and needs support and acknowledgement as a friend too not just thier fixer upper. It's really sad and selfish of people who only see what they want and for someone else to do it for them but they don't have to reciprocate in any way, it's just thier right to use someone else for anything they need and ignore them till the next time.
💐 You deserve better, step back and let them get on with it themselves now.

Thank you will save that for later and forward to OH.

Willow2017 · 05/10/2020 14:57

Mps are asking hard questions in Canada now. The method they use in the covid test is almost guarenteed to show a positive because its the wrong way of testing samples!

chocolatesweets · 05/10/2020 14:57
@chocolatesweets I think I agree. This dark threat of more lockdown is really getting me down, just do it if you’re going to is my thinking now
Exactly. Give enough rope.

justasking111 · 05/10/2020 14:59

Tell you something when Trump walks out of hospital and gets back to work that will send a powerful sign to america. That a 74 year old who eats McDonalds daily can get back on the horse means that the rest of them should crack on. I cannot imagine him doing a Boris wimp out thing.

chocolatesweets · 05/10/2020 15:01

Agree with trump theory!

Taswama · 05/10/2020 15:06

Yes but he will have had treatments unaffordable to the majority of Americans.

Willow2017 · 05/10/2020 15:09

If Trump really does have covid how the hell was he out in a car full of security men putting them at risk of catching it to wave to his supporters outside? He is looking remarkably healthy for someone needing private hospital care when standing doing talks to tv cameras from his presidential suite in the hospital!
What a buffoon.

Ibake · 05/10/2020 15:09

If you do decide to watch the vid I posted then you will understand what I'm about to type as it's a bit discombobulating.

My husband and I have been debating who has the guts to change tack and pursue a different strategy? Sunken cost fallacy and all that. I am now rooting for Trump to swagger out of hospital with the courage to do something different as we're currently the living definition of insanity. I know these meetings in Washington are happening, I hope they're happening at the highest level possible.

chocolatesweets · 05/10/2020 15:09

He'll be elected again. He speaks to the poor. Unlike Joe middle class Biden. Too little, too late. And I hate Trump.
