ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries

Oh for the good old days of a breakfast buffet.

Back when you could make plans and reasonably expect them to happen. When you could turn up spontaneously and browse or linger at your leisure. When you could meet whoever you like and give them a hug

But until those days return, here's some more AD chat about life, the universe and phallic fruits...

I think people deliberately have added stupid names to discredit. They're trying to remove as fast as they find them but I'm truly concerned that something much worse is going on. When have we ever silenced scientific debate before? These 3 are not quacks.

Alcohol restrictions in UK as well as masks outdoors, can someone put me in stasis a la Star Trek and wake me when this is all over please.

Oh and can someone please feed and exercise my dogs and cats while I am in stasis.

MagdaS · 10/10/2020 17:24

Masks in offices will shatter what little mental health my team have managed to retain after 7 months of this bullshit.

We had a member of staff test positive. They had been in the office and there was no onward transmission at all. We asked all their close contacts to self-isolate (which they did) but that was the only impact. We run a Covid secure office and behave sensibly at all times. But masks will take away all the benefits of being in.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/10/2020 17:26

@RealityExistsInTheHumanMind

I suspect the outdoor mask wearing will be in order to 'allow' outside events, where people are in close proximity. Sporting events and concerts maybe. Maybe even outdoor markets where distancing isn't really possible. Won't make an 'apporth' of difference but just the usual virtue signalling.
They are requested prior to the start of running races where the runners bunch together more. Last time I wrote "mask exempt" on my number. I'm sympathetic to the race organisers feeling on thin ground that permissions could rapidly be taken away if infection was attributed to a race. However while my risk of sensory overload is lower outside, about to run a race when I'm already pumped is not the moment to find out, and I'm not running around for an hour+ with the visor, nor am I in a rush to dump them.

If it's a condition to get spectators back into stadia where you are stood near consistent people for a prolonged period, and it's hard not to chant and cheer, and it's not a fully open environment, I can see why people would go for that. That's different to having to wear one going about your general business.

I'm just nervous because several things have crept and nudged in now, and the data going up creates the environment where more people lap it up, or at least suck it up.

As depressing as it is, it is heartening seeing increasingly mainstream critical articles citing or confirming the issues that we have been discussing for six months. I feel less like a lone voice who has to be careful about self-censoring than I did.

@MagdaS
Masks were introduced in our office last month. Masks to be worn if another person is in the same room unless you are both seated and more than 2m apart. You may take it off to eat & drink. If someone approaches you when you are sat down (wearing their mask because they are standing up) you must put your mask on. It's like the hokey-cokey sometimes.

It does at least mean that if someone tests positive, if everyone is following those rules, their contacts don't have to self-isolate unless they get symptoms.

Anyone who is unable to tolerate wearing a mask is instructed to inform their manager. Don't know what they would do in that situation but I suspect it would mean that person being sent to WFH, which doesn't work for everyone.

Came out of a supermarket to an utter deluge this afternoon. I can safely say that masks get very wet in the rain.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/10/2020 18:16

I'd be as shit at WFH as I am at covering my face 😆

So glad I'm not working at the moment, just because of rules after rules after rules. I did miss it during lockdown as I felt so aimless, normally I keep busy. I have enough structure now so that I know what day of the week it is as much as I ever did Wink

Ok, I'm at Lake Garda and they brought in the mandatory outdoor mask wearing on Wednesday. We were thrilled. NotHmm
DH is exempt but sunflower lanyards aren't really recognised here except in the hotel which knows us very well.
He is really trying hard to wear a mask but mainly keeps it under his nose. So we decided to watch what the Italians do.
It seems to be 100% in shops and interior public spaces. But outside it's "I'm wearing a mask on a part of my body mainly my wrist or under my chin"
If a police car goes past the masks pop on the nose until it goes away.
Nobody shies away from anyone or is aggressive about mask wearing.
I'm sure it's different in the bigger cities but there's great good humour and lots of chat around.

I can't see it being like that in the UK though, it would be more like the last scene of Invasion of the Body Snatchers! Sad

Taswama · 10/10/2020 18:34

Masks are now 'recommended' at my work if moving around when it would be difficult to social distance but not at desks. With 50 people spread across a site designed for 1,000 I've decided such a situation isn't going to occur. I need to go into work for my MH. I don't think making it mandatory is going to encourage others to go back.

Blobby10 · 10/10/2020 18:40

I survived the hairdresser!! 2 hours wearing a muzzle whilst he cut 7" off the length and styled it. It feels amazing Grin.

MagdaS · 10/10/2020 19:00

@TheOrchidKiller I can see that being the solution to mask wearing in our office too - if you don’t like it / want to / can’t then WFH. Which misses the fucking obvious point that those who are going into the office are doing so because WFH is shit for their mental health.

DominaShantotto · 10/10/2020 19:13

I'm really really missing being on campus for lectures - I may hate my early train every morning - but that routine of reading the news with my coffee on the train, the walk through the city centre to campus, grabbing a coffee and bacon cob (them calling them rolls in the East Midlands is shameful!) and pootling off to either my lecture room early or a study area to get an hour's work done... really missing it. They've got the interaction fairly well running with breakout rooms on online stuff now but it is in no way the same. Plus half the sessions run on into school kicking out time now school finishes at 2.fucking.30 so I then have to try to take in the kids' day's news and police homework while trying to do an analysis on some hypothetical kid's language sample.

Evenstar · 10/10/2020 21:28

Trying so hard to find little pleasures in each day, but now it is getting darker every evening the thought of the winter ahead seems so daunting. No concerts, no cinema, no theatre or pantos.

We are reluctant to go out for meals as it doesn’t seem worth the risk of two weeks isolation if you came into contact with an infected person. I can’t wear a mask and DH doesn’t want to wear one for prolonged periods of time so that rules out museums, galleries and anything indoors really.

Usually we would have something to look forward to in the diary, we have nothing and I am dreading Monday and what might be announced.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/10/2020 21:36

Me too. I know exactly how you feel. But on the small pleasures, I just had a lovely game of Monopoly with DD1. She won and I finally understood how mortgaging works in the game which may help games go faster!

I saw in New Year in 2019 in jail and on the verge of bankruptcy.

We've had Trivial Persuit going on into multiple years too.

I need other people to play with though. DH isn't terribly interested in games and has little general knowledge of the random facts kind and knows even less tham me about sport. He always piggy backs off me then quietly retreats.

We often do a games night with some friends at New Year as children are in the equation. This year's was the only time we've had a usable spare bedroom in it's 2.5 month life before it became an office.
We were just looking fowards to having a decent bed for friends to stay in and space for their DCs to sleepover in.

I once baby sat a friend's pre-teens and had the joy of introducing them to the "auction if not bought" rule!

I know what you mean @Evenstar about eating out and track and trace. We nearly had lunch in a lovely place earlier in the week. On Friday it was announced some staff had tested positive so they had to shut for a deep clean and for all staff to be tested. Hope to re open in ten days. We dodged the track and trace bullet there.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/10/2020 23:09

Flippin' 'eck @BogRollBOGOF!

I read this

"I saw in New Year in 2019 in jail and on the verge of bankruptcy"
without taking in that everyone was discussing Monopoly, & thought, "Wow, that's quite a bombshell!"

110APiccadilly · 10/10/2020 23:13

I'm worried about track and trace and missing maternity appointments if I'm told to isolate, but the thing I do that really puts me at risk of it is part of my job, so there's not much I can do there. Haven't really been eating out though - the masks stuff winds DH up so much (I'm more able to just ignore it) that it doesn't seem worth it.

DS1 is a terrible winner though. It's a toss up of which is worse, the explosion if he's losing and it's all unfair, or the gloating and micro-analysis if he's doing well Grin

@Howyoualldoworkme YY DM is Italian and that sounds morein line with what ive heard not the dubious claims made on the C board.

So how is compulsory masks outside going to work for the homeless?!!

Willow2017 · 11/10/2020 01:59

Everyone is probably in bed (sensible) but i can't sleep and am outside having a cig! I have had to ask staff about my meds i never got st midnight you know the ones i have yo take for the condition i am actually here for! They brought them this morning right after breakfast. I cant have dairy 4hrs before or 2 hrs after acvording to the med leaflet (4 hrs according to pharmacist!) Which is on the box. So they said they would get the dr to change it. Surprise surprise that didnt happen.😠 yet another cock up in this shitstorm.

Its too bright in the room. The so called night light is shining straight onto my bed as bright as a solar flare and its too damm hot. Never had a good opinion of this place for good reasons (apart from the haemotology dept i attend ) but its worse now.
Sorry just having a rant.

Yes! This was the first thing I thought too. What a brilliant way to discredit those who disagree with them
