ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries

Oh for the good old days of a breakfast buffet.

Back when you could make plans and reasonably expect them to happen. When you could turn up spontaneously and browse or linger at your leisure. When you could meet whoever you like and give them a hug

But until those days return, here's some more AD chat about life, the universe and phallic fruits...

@Iheartmysmart

Well I suppose mask wearing in shops and enclosed areas has been such a roaring success then the next logical step is to wear them outside as well....! Weren’t masks supposed to save us all or was that just bullshit ... oh wait! I have a feeling that Monday will just be our world beating incompetent twat of a PM and his posse of po faced pricks spouting the same crap. None of which appears to be currently working.
Well exactly, @Iheartmysmart.

And just look at how infection rates have plummeted in places like Paris, where they introduced mandatory mask wearing everywhere, including outside...oh, wait...

Funkypolar · 10/10/2020 11:02

V for Vendetta had the right idea...

Thanksitsgotpockets · 10/10/2020 11:03

Clearly anyone suggesting masks outside is not a lone woman runner.

Yes, in a country where it's soon going to be dark by 4, this is increasingly creating situations where there's a bigger threat from passing some opportunist in a mask and hoodie than there is from a virus.

Not to mention the re-triggering of women by constantly having to evaluate whether someone in a mask is likely to be a safe person or not.

Thanksitsgotpockets · 10/10/2020 11:04

Having to park in multi storeys is a particular fear of mine.

Willow2017 · 10/10/2020 11:36

The OrchidKiller
Thanks I am bored witless. Was told it was coming up to ward half an hour ago still waiting for my bio hazzard bag to arrive.🤣

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 10/10/2020 11:54

Mask wearing outside is a horrible thought.

110APiccadilly · 10/10/2020 12:01

Well, I'm certainly not going to be wearing a mask on my sea swims Grin. And if anyone has an issue with it, they can start campaigning to reopen the swimming pools.

Ibake · 10/10/2020 12:02

Interesting development on the GB Declaration. If you type it into Google or Safari it no longer appears other than news articles that mention it (and most of those are dismissing it). If you've already searched for it before then it auto fills but if you search from scratch it doesn't come up. Wtf? That's outright censorship and I find that deeply worrying.

Funkypolar · 10/10/2020 12:13

It’ll be wearing a mask at home next with COVID marshals knocking on your door to check! And I bet most of the population will comply

NastyBlouse · 10/10/2020 12:23

Urgh. Masks outside? Shan’t. Shan’t.

It feels like all the visible, performative stuff is gaining traction — even when there’s scant evidence for it — because so many panicky people seem to respond to visual markers of crisis, rather than things that actually work.

None of it seems particularly logical, but there seems to be more people waking up to it. Though I've just had to listen to my DM saying "all those people who went to the beach, what would they say if you asked them how they would feel if they passed the virus onto a family member who died" 🙄🙄🙄. She knows I don't agree with her, but still persists!

Thats a worry. Maybe someone has tipped them a wink thats it's just not cricket to openly challenge policy with stuff like that just now?
justasking111 · 10/10/2020 13:19

Well mask wearing told DH the dogs had to wear a mask when he goes up in the hills and never sees another soul. You gotta find your laughs where you can doncha...

Seriously they locked down Bangor, OH read people outside cannot even do their shopping there for food. FFS do they not realise how bloody empty Gwynedd is so many outlying hamlets that rely on Bangor to put food on their plates.

justasking111 · 10/10/2020 13:28

Some good news DS friend at Newcastle medicine 2nd year, all 7 of them tested positive so they partied in splendid isolation, either cooking, or getting takeaways in. They are now allowed out again. None the worse for it. No-one felt more than vaguely off colour medic students. Give it a month and the figures will drop in uni towns/cities

TabbyStar · 10/10/2020 13:34

DD's BF is in halls in Manchester, lots of positive tests and some a bit ill, but no one seriously. Main problem is crap food! He's allowed out middle of the week coming.

loulouljh · 10/10/2020 13:43

I would categorically not wear a mask outside. There is just no way. It is my time walking with my dog. It really is one of the few pleasures left at the minute. I am NOT having that ruined with wearing a mask.

The Bangor lockdown seems to ignore the nature of the area. If you live nearby but outside the locked down area, you have pretty limited options for food shopping etc. Particularly if your access to a car is limited or you're on a low budget or both. (And Gwynedd has a lot of rural poverty.)
justasking111 · 10/10/2020 14:44

Just had an awful row with DH. We have been bailing out the adult kids, now he is trying to scratch around saving money on stuff. We downsized so had a £100k pot. half of that is gone already because of kids needs. He is not young we need to pay people to fix things now because covid cancelled his op. so he cannot do as much diy as he did. One DIL has just spent so much money on trendy designer clothes for her kids I had a melt down. OH said I was mistaken so I went off on one. Just crying now because we are scraping around and trying to do stuff ourself when they are eating out to help out at posh places we never went to.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 10/10/2020 14:44

I suspect the outdoor mask wearing will be in order to 'allow' outside events, where people are in close proximity. Sporting events and concerts maybe. Maybe even outdoor markets where distancing isn't really possible. Won't make an 'apporth' of difference but just the usual virtue signalling.

Iheartmysmart · 10/10/2020 15:11

Apologies for mentioning the Daily Mail but they have an interesting article from Dr Angus Dalgleish. He mentions we now have the worst of all words: authoritarianism accompanied by amateurism. He’s not wrong!

Hello! Came off MN a few weeks ago and have name changed but was an AD from the very first thread.
Is there more sanity on MN generally than there was? Perhaps slightly less D aggression? (though my first post back did get an immediate demand for my 'source'. Haha. Because obviously seeing source material and learned studies will absolutely change the minds of the Ds won't it.) Anyway, kind of nice to be back and see that some people are still wondering what the F is going on.

It's definitely more mixed and balanced than a few months ago. There is a 50:50 chance that a thread will be sensible and critical, and the dementors are not having an easy ride en-masse. It's one of the little things cheering me up.

Am I right in thinking that a whole lot of fake signatories were allowed to be added to it later so that now it looks as if the 'contributors' aren't as reliable as I originally thought?

Surely 'Johnny Bananas' and 'Harold Shipman' for example weren't on it originally?

justasking111 · 10/10/2020 16:32

Had such a shock 21 died in Wales yesterday, but then they admitted it was catch up figures 17 from Cwm Taff. between 3rd and 7th Oct. well yeah your hospitals in Cwm Taff were giving people covid, bloody embarrassing but to hide it for days is beyond the pale. You already admitted 27 died this way in October now you add another 17, that makes it 44 deaths this month from this area.
