ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries

Oh for the good old days of a breakfast buffet.

Back when you could make plans and reasonably expect them to happen. When you could turn up spontaneously and browse or linger at your leisure. When you could meet whoever you like and give them a hug

But until those days return, here's some more AD chat about life, the universe and phallic fruits...
@justasking111 I hope your son is okay and able to process the situation. Without wishing to jump to conclusions the only cases I e heard of from multi storey car parks have been suicide or murder. Just awful.
He was upset he had walked past to go shopping on his return it had happened usual blue lights, he averted his eyes and crossed the road but with all the shit with online learning and being cooped up in his room it does give you too much time to dwell on things. They are going out for pizza tonight, probably last time before they lower the boom in Leeds.

Hello. Welcome to the newbies, sorry to hear people are struggling and the home birth stories are lovely. Domina I hope DD gets sorted with her eye.

Busy busy here between work and uni. I have barely been on MN.

Pubs and restaurants can only do take away or serve up to a max of 15 people outside. It's bloody October I'm not sure many people will bother.

One person from another household can visit and you can't travel outside your own county unless for work or essential reasons.

Is this ever going to be over. It's really seeming like there will be no end to it.

Is anyone doing anything nice or interesting for their weekend? Three hours of lectures tomo morning for me and I have to do an assignment too. Hoping to get a sea swim in tomo afternoon. That's about it.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/10/2020 17:14

My scouting group is having a vote about returning and it's not looking favourable so far. I've said what our Brownies have done and are doing.

If the consensus is against face to face, DS2 basically left Beavers before his 7th birthday, as I can't see enthusiasm for returning picking up between now and Easter. My two do not do zoom. They just have no interest and don't get it and dick about. They need face to face with their peers.

It's frustrating when my Brownies are back with an adapted, flexible approach and because I had sons, they are missing out while I give opportunities to their classmates (unless I train them to say the magic words "I am a girl" Wink )

Currently loitering in the car for Karate. I live 350m away, but I have to loiter in the car park. It's alien driving miniscule distances!

I'm guessing Jaegar are struggling on the Mother of the Bride market for the forseeable.

Decathlon seem to still be really struggling with their supply chains. When I went in last month it looked depleted and I tried putting in orders for chest torches for the DCs and those ranges were all out. Struggling to think of what the DCs want for Christmas plus a birthday. They still play, but don't need new toys as they still go for their old collections of wooden train sets, and vehicles, and best of all a stick or cardboard box!

@HelenaDove, I bet a lot of those redundant employees will be women. What can we do to help?

TheOrchidKiller · 09/10/2020 18:19

Evening, & hello to new people.

@justasking111 I hope your son is ok, that's a distressing thing to deal with. And exactly the sort of situation when you need other humans around you.

@Howyoualldoworkme that's nice to hear about Italy. Was there exactly 12 months ago very briefly & we said we'd return this year for a proper holiday but obviously didn't. May be next year....

Went on 2 different occasions to stock up on PPE for work today, but Golum the person with the -ring key to the store room was missing (quite possibly invisible, who knows). As I was unable to pass collect my supplies I had to cobble together just enough for today from what colleagues had in their cars. This made me late getting to my home visits. And now I'll have to solve the riddle go through the same charade on Monday as I don't have enough kit.

Further delays on decisions as to what fate our city/county will suffer. I suppose each day they delay it's a day more for local businesses to trade, but the uncertainty is doing my head in.

HeIenaDove · 09/10/2020 18:45

@ISaySteadyOn I have no idea Sad Sunak was going on about retraining. I hope whatever ideas he has that they dont involve workfare 2.0 That kind of policy harms the economy.

Thanksitsgotpockets · 09/10/2020 18:47

I called into the co-op today. It has a costa beside it that I'd often go to in a group of 7 for lunch on a Friday. We'd often struggle for tables.
I had a look in today at lunchtime and there was just one person in.

A friend of DHs went down to the marina to winterize his boat today which means it has to face the other way. So he started the engine went into the river turned it round and came back in. The police were waiting for him on the pontoon. He was asked where he had come from, he said that he was from there had just turned his boat around. Where do you live he turned around and pointed out his house which you can see from his boat. They wanted him to prove it with id type stuff which of course he does not keep on the boat. He said they just did not believe him and were hostile.

DH was a bit shaken up by this because he does not keep id on the boat either and he was not carrying any on his person.

It all seems a bit heavy handed to us.

TheOrchidKiller · 09/10/2020 19:01

I feel a bit duped.
Boris said we wouldn't have another total lockdown. We might have to take tough measures in certain areas but it won't be a total lockdown.
Yesterday Nicola shut the pubs & today Rishi is talking about furlough pay again. Someone told me a lot of shops are barring customers who won't scan the app on entry.
It's lockdown by stealth, but as there will be a few things open, unlike in March, they can claim it's not another total lockdown.

School have sent an unusually dementory email. To be fair to them I think are trying their best to avoid having to send huge groups home, but it feels very stressful again. Meanwhile, the kids are expected to do mocks soon, with still no clue about how they will finally be graded next year.

JamSarnie · 09/10/2020 19:10

It's terrible. I can't believe they are closing businesses again.

There seems to be two extremes. Those that are losing their jobs/businesses or being furloughed on reduced pay and those working at home saving money without the daily commute and incidental spends.

I can feel myself slipping back into the lockdown depressed mood. Stopped exercising and eating more comfort food. This is going to be a shit winter.

Taswama · 09/10/2020 19:15

On the positive news front - DS2 came home with loads of stickers on his school sweatshirt. I just said to DP, I'm not sure how they did that while keeping 2m distance. DS2 overheard and said - "its 1 metre now!".
Scouting seems to be a local decision @BogRollBOGOF Cubs have restarted, just alternating weeks and outside if at all possible. The kids and adults are socially distanced and they've done risk assessments (seen on OSM although not actually bothered to read). .

Justasking thats weird my friend is buying a new boat and took one for a test drive and got stopped by the river police and asked similar questions. She assumed it was because she lived on Kent coast/ migrant issue

Wishfulthinking1977 · 09/10/2020 20:16

Thanks everyone for the support and positive responses about home births! Will definitely pass on to dd, she is happy to have a home birth this time as are her midwives as she had a quick easy delivery first time round and would love a water birth as she couldn't last time as had to be monitored, her only worry is afterwards if she needs stitches, she had a bad time having them last time. Anyone have any advice on that sort of thing with regards to home births? Thanks xx

These were not river police we do not have them here, what we have is a county lock down in N Wales.

Just seen 'circuit breaker' in a newspaper over here. Oh good god.

Watching HIGNFY, they've shown a clip from Conservative conf 2017, with Wanksock onstage, belting out Don't Stop Me Now. Made me smile.

The NHS : safe in this man's hands.

Almost nostalgic for Theresa May's Dancing Queen effort.

I'm looking forwards to future series of Strictly : "And now, dancing the cha-cha-cha with his partner Janette Manrara, it's Boris Johnson!"

And Kier Starmer has been nicknamed Captain Hindsight

They are now shutting down Bangor announced tonight from 6pm tomorrow. Not the whole county just the city. Less than 24 hours notice

Which makes me wonder if Boris is closing down parts of England why announce it a week in advance allowing partying this weekend thus spreading covid if he truly believes that? This is what baffles me the length of notice given

I have no idea why they think leaking stuff before they do it is better.

I voted for the bunch of idiots but my god they have lost my vote with their tactics.

SirSamuelVimes · 09/10/2020 22:06

I hate this policy of telling us in advance that they will be announcing more measures soon. I don't want to spend the next couple of days fretting. Surely the gov doesn't want people spending the next couple of days partying while they can? What's the fucking point?!

Agree, just tell us what they are planning. At least we can plan.

Blackpool woman on gogglebox has just called mh Twat hancock. I'm now forever going to refer to him as Twat Wanksocks
