ADs crave hotel breakfasts garnished with phallic strawberries

Oh for the good old days of a breakfast buffet.

Back when you could make plans and reasonably expect them to happen. When you could turn up spontaneously and browse or linger at your leisure. When you could meet whoever you like and give them a hug

But until those days return, here's some more AD chat about life, the universe and phallic fruits...

Hi all, thanks for the lovely welcome

BogRollBOGOF · 09/10/2020 11:03

@DominaShantotto

DD2 is at the hospital eye clinic with DH. For the appointment due in March to monitor the big regression in vision in one of her eyes - that we only got now because we rang up to chase since the kid can't bloody read her school books!

Waiting to see if it's general vision prescription changing or her losing the vision in her previously good eye from lazy eye there - which would mean we've lost so many months of progress in terms of being able to treat it when she's at the pretty much max age range for it to be at all effective - and now she's got to deal with the year 3 curriculum, a teacher with a bit of a shitty attitude, and everything else with fucked up vision.

I hope it's a good outcome Flowers

Domina
Everything crossed for good news. It's appaling that something so fundamental as sight has been ignored for months.

NastyBlouse · 09/10/2020 11:20

Sending you positive thoughts for a good outcome Domina. Brew Willow's right, it's totally not acceptable that a child should have to wait this long for the appointment.

Talking about hairdressers - I used to be a very regular visitor with trims, colour, blow dries etc, along with coffee and a natter. It was as much social as anything. When I drive past now I see they have all the windows and doors open continually (brrr), and I know there are no mags. or coffee on offer. I have not been since early March. My hair is now quite long (so I pin it up, no problem) and I have let it go grey. Only trouble is I look a bit like a witch or a mad woman in certain lights....
I had a very satisfying and loud swearing attack in Tesco this morning over their fucking barriers all over the place. Sadly, no one took the slightest bit of notice. Next time I'll ram the bloody things. Really, why do they think it is necessary to create a chicane around the bloody entrance?
I stocked up on wine and chocolate though, so yay.

JamSarnie · 09/10/2020 11:32

Wooohooo I have finally got a dental appointment. My check up was cancelled right at the beginning of lockdown and they are now finally starting to rebook everyone in (hoping I don't need any work Wink).

DominaShantotto · 09/10/2020 11:54

6-8 week review apparently - there is something not right when she's tracking text with one eye at all that they can't figure out (I've said for three years she doesn't track text right at all).

flower11 · 09/10/2020 14:01

The barricades and one way system are all back here too. Yesterday I went to sainsbury's to collect a argos parcel, could have gone 8 paces from door to till but no had to follow the arrows round the whole shop and pass the woman dithering over cheese who was not happy. Same in pound land today wanted to go to one isle but no had to trapise round the whole shop. I give up with real shops now!

Bollss · 09/10/2020 14:15

Newspapers are saying lockdown again until April. Kill. Me. Now.

We have been in local lockdown since the end of July and it's been bloody long enough. We'll get to April next year and they'll go oh sorry we meant April 2022, as you were.

I've HAD IT.

MissEWeatherwax · 09/10/2020 14:15

I went to a lovely cafe this morning for breakfast on my own, it was lovely but freezing. I could have sat upstairs, but I can’t come down the stairs with my mask on, as I can’t see properly. But town was quite empty.
But cheered myself up by wasting money in Body shop and buying lots of Christmas magazines.
My DH was telling me, a work colleague has finally got a dentist appointment.He is on a dental plan, he was complaining that he feels ripped off, still taking money but no appointments.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 09/10/2020 14:27

For hair - it might be worth looking for a home hairdresser.

I had a totally shit day and need to rant if that's OK.

I went out for breakfast with DH and DS and I had been looking forward to it all week. Just as the food arrives DS does a massive poo in his nappy and I have to go change him. It was so close to the top of his nappy that I just grabbed DS nappy and wipes and rushed to the loos just outside the restaurant before it went up his back and over his clothes. Changed DS but then tried to get back in to the restaurant and security wouldn't let me as I wasn't wearing my mask. In my rush to change DS I had left my mask on the table. Tried explaining this to security so he wouldn't let me in. I'm now in a panic because I'm not in the UK and even outside I should be wearing my mask and there is no such thing as exemption here so I can't go forward can't go back. I try shouting to DH who can't hear me at all and I had left my phone at the table too so no chance to call him. I ended up having a massive panic attack as the security won't let me go get my mask but is telling me I need to wear one (no shit!). I hate looking like a rule breaker, clearly it would have been much better for public health for DS to have a nappy explosion in the restaurant than for me to breathe on the way to the loo and back. And far safer than the security guard applying any common sense.

Pleasedontdothat · 09/10/2020 15:14

I had a heartening moment at the vets today. Like all the small animal vets round here, they’re staffed by full-on dementors so you have to wear a mask to talk to the receptionist through the open window and all interactions with the vets are in the front garden ... I needed to pick up some medication for my poor dog who’s recovering from major surgery and was frantically digging around in my bag for the mask I was sure was there. Finally retrieved unhygienic rag and the other two women waiting smiled sympathetically - I said I really wasn’t sure what good masks were doing and they both nodded and said I wasn’t the only one... I think any new rules/restrictions are going to have to be backed up by pretty robust evidence if there’s to be widespread compliance this time

MissEWeatherwax · 09/10/2020 15:43

@justasking111, that’s shocking.

Taswama · 09/10/2020 15:45

Flowers @starfish88 - that does sound shit (pun intended!). What a total lack of common sense.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/10/2020 16:05

Flowers @starfish88, what a jobsworth. We used to call nappies like that 'apoocolypses'

Taswama · 09/10/2020 16:09

@110APiccadilly

Thanks all. It's good to hear about the positive experiences people have had with home birth, makes me less stressed about the idea!
I'm late to the party on this but I had a home birth with dd2 and I loved it. Had a hired birth pool, set it up in the dining room, meant that I didn't have the worry of a pool not being available in the hospital. It was calm and quiet and dark, just what I wanted. And I got a cup of tea in my favourite mug at the end of it all, and my own bed. Brilliant.
justasking111 · 09/10/2020 16:57

DS just phoned someone has fallen off the multi story car park near his accommodation he was a bit shaken up. I hope they will be ok.

Worldgonecrazy · 09/10/2020 17:00

@justasking111 I hope your son is okay and able to process the situation. Without wishing to jump to conclusions the only cases I e heard of from multi storey car parks have been suicide or murder. Just awful.

Howyoualldoworkme · 09/10/2020 17:00

Yay! We're on holiday! In Italy!
People are smiley and welcoming. Very UnDementory Smile
They've just brought in mandatory mask wearing outside but that is being interpreted as "I've got a mask and it's on my body somewhere" although it's probably more stringent in big towns.

It's just so much less stressful than the UK.

Worldgonecrazy · 09/10/2020 17:02

@Taswama

Or poonamis !
We called them ‘ten wipers’ because of how many baby wipes were needed. Thankfully DD didn’t have many!
