Do you have a pointless superpower?

You know, that thing you can do which others cant but which is surprisingly useless.

Mine: I tie shoelaces upside down which is great if I am tying someone else's shoelaces but means my own are upside down (ie loose ends at the top of the knot). This was a useful skill when DCs were little but now they are in their 20s and dont need me tying their shoelaces.

DH: putting up coving - he can just see all the cuts he needs to make so there is almost no wastage. The house is perfectly coved. We dont redecorate often enough for him to use this skill.

Anyone else have a pointless superpower?

I can hear bats squeaking as they fly around.

I have good hearing for other things too- we never needed a baby monitor because I could just hear the kids from downstairs, even with the TV on.

@Loftyloft I can do that too , I've never known anyone else that can do it before .

I can sense time pretty well. Its my kids thing to test me at random times and im never more than 10 minutes out..It pisses them off and gives them a laugh in equal measure.
Driving long distances i can usually tell how far ive gone or how much time is left(without looking).

It’s only really been useful at work.
But I can tell if someone is telling me bullshit or porkies, or a situation doesn’t hang right together.
Even if it all sounds plausible.
Without fail everytime I’ve thought ‘there’s more to this’ there always is. Which has served me well in my job, but I haven’t had much need of it outside.
That and excellent hearing, I can hear the cat deterrents from various gardens.

I'm rrally good at knowing whether someone has been sexuallu abused in the past - after 15 years as a mental health nurse and family therapist there are some signs in interactions that are really clear.

It is helpful at work but awkward outside work. Obviously I keep my suspicions to myself.

As PP I can sense if a spider is in a room. I've also heard them walking across the floor several times - but no-one believes me.

I can fall asleep at will. Anywhere. T'was a boon when I was a shift worker.

That is not pointless. That would be AMAZING! I can't fall asleep in my own bed at bedtime!

@Stompythedinosaur
Are you able to share some of these characteristics at all please?

I am always the person in the group wait staff speak to about any issues, and when I raise my head to look for the bill or another bottle a member of wait staff is always there looking back at me.

A bit of a useless one this year.

@lanbro it's sometimes a curse.
Often, I don't lie-in, even when I want to! I always get up early!

I’m able to tell you which way north is. Useful in my job, useful in my hobby. But my son (10) is phenomenal at it. He says it’s obvious - he knows which way his bed faces and he knows how that feels, so it is easy to know which way he is pointing at any given time.

I used to have a pretty good photographic memory - I could “see” text book pages and the pages of my notes, which came in very handy in one of my finals where a question had been lifted straight from the book, they hadn’t even bothered changing the numbers.

Must also be a super taster, as all leafy green veg taste foul and bitter to me. Used to have to slather sprouts in horseradish to be able to eat them (leaving them was not an option).

My most useful superpower is being able to keep the fridge fully stocked when both boys are resident though.

One of my friends has an enviable superpower. She can walk into any department store and go straight to the cafe. Never needs to check the store directory or get off the escalator on every floor and sniff the air for coffee smells.

Mine sounds weird but I get certain very strong feelings about things that are always right. The thought will literally just pop in my head and I know it’s true with overwhelming certainty. I can’t control it or make it happen intentionally.

It’s happened where people have been seriously ill but I get this sudden flash of thought they’ll be ok and it’s not what everyone thinks it is. Or sometimes about someone’s true motives and what they are going to do next or how something difficult will pan out. I’ve had it as long as I can remember and never used to say anything as I thought it was a fleeting thought and the fact it was accurate was coincidence, but now I make a point of sharing it when it happens just to I can say “see I was right!” Grin

I can fall asleep virtually anywhere really fast.
I also read really fast and can read upside down (comes from being a teacher).
Good at spelling (I just know a word looks wrong).
I’m a super taster, used to work in the food industry and did a good tasting course where I got tested. I thought I was just fussy.

I am totally useless with numbers though.

I can get lost on long walks. It’s never not happened (and I go on a lot of walks- sometimes even the same walk I’ve done before). It truly is a superpower.

You need to find one those 'always know where North is' people and take her on the walk with you. Grin

I’m really good at finding the end of the sellotape when it’s stuck down on the roll.

I can drink milk that’s a little bit off without noticing.

I can recite the names of all the United States of America in alphabetical order.

The first two are quite useful actually.
