Do you have a pointless superpower?

You know, that thing you can do which others cant but which is surprisingly useless.

Mine: I tie shoelaces upside down which is great if I am tying someone else's shoelaces but means my own are upside down (ie loose ends at the top of the knot). This was a useful skill when DCs were little but now they are in their 20s and dont need me tying their shoelaces.

DH: putting up coving - he can just see all the cuts he needs to make so there is almost no wastage. The house is perfectly coved. We dont redecorate often enough for him to use this skill.

Anyone else have a pointless superpower?

I have a photographic memory.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 27/09/2020 07:52

i can waggle my ears
i make a good boiled egg and soldiers.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 27/09/2020 07:52

My first pancake is always perfect as well - I thought I was the only one!

caughtalightsneeze · 27/09/2020 07:53

I could identify the handwriting of nearly every colleague I have ever worked with, going back over twenty years. I find handwriting very easy to remember.

caughtalightsneeze · 27/09/2020 07:54

I could even still identify the handwriting of people I went to school with.

GnomeDePlume · 27/09/2020 07:54

@lurch3r can you do something with your hands at the same time eg write the label? Or is it an either/or situation?

I see a person once and remember their name years later. It has come from being a teacher I am sure. It unnerves people when you meet a random person 3 or 4 years after meeting for 5 mins years before and I know who they are.

brushandmop · 27/09/2020 07:59

I can move my ears without touching them

DinosApple · 27/09/2020 08:04

I can identify random human bones and separate them from animal bones.

This is obviously a learned superpower, but not very useful these days as I'm a TA in reception class. Grin

InMySpareTime · 27/09/2020 08:04

I know where all the things are in the house.
I can lay my hands on any important document or random object anywhere in the house within a minute or two.
It's easier now the DCs have left home, as they used to move stuff without telling meConfused.

GnomeDePlume · 27/09/2020 08:04

@caughtalightsneeze I guess that could be useful for telling who has sent you a Christmas card before you open it. Of course you could just open the envelope....

I'm double-jointed and can reach my left arm round my head, to touch my left ear.

I remember childhood very vividly indeed, down to individual conversations. I can't remember what I did last week, though!

I have excellent directional hearing. At my youth group, we often played Keeper of the Keys, where one child has to creep up and grab some treasure without being heard and pointed at. When it was my turn to be blindfolded, nobody could get past me, not even the group leader. She made me swear I couldn't see a thing, and would spin me round as well, unlike the other children; but I still pointed right at them every time.

Song lyrics, entire albums or musicals worth. Handy in a pub quiz but wish I could make a career out of it!

TheDrsDocMartens · 27/09/2020 08:09

I used to be good at doing things with my feet but they’ve stopped cooperating since my last pregnancy 🙄

I can recognise voices but can’t name them, just their life/career story. 😳

I can identify random human bones and separate them from animal bones.

I guess you could use this skill for checking exhibits before 'show and tell'

I can down a pint in under ten seconds.

I can recite pi to 200 digits.

RefriedBeanz · 27/09/2020 08:29

I never forget a face. If I’ve met someone before, even if very briefly, I won’t ever forget their name, their face or the details of where we met. I do have quite a good memory in general which is what helped me get through uni!

Dancer12345 · 27/09/2020 08:30

@Brissiegirl

I can write with both hands at sane time - left hand is mirror writing and right hand is correct way.
I can do that too! Never met anyone else who can Smile
1moreRep · 27/09/2020 08:33

I have endless energy and literally love working out, it's my adhd super power, enables me to do so many things at once and enjoy it.

Down side, I'm shit at relaxing and can't sunbathe #boring

MysweetAudrina · 27/09/2020 08:34

I can tell which house in a row belongs to a particular person. I first noticed I had this power as a teen when I was able to correctly guess 6 friends houses from just looking at a row of houses. When I looked at the houses I could see them living there.

NoMoreMrNiceGaius · 27/09/2020 08:34

Some of these are seriously amazing! The only thing I can think of is that I have great spatial awareness.

If I'm packing an object and I have a random assortment of boxes but I dont have the object with me, the first box I pick will always fit the object perfectly to the milimeter, same with multiple objects in one box.

Same with suitcases, buying furniture etc, I never have to measure anything I always know if something will fit and it always does perfectly.

Theworldisfullofgs · 27/09/2020 08:35

I have a strong sense of smell too and can twitch my nose like a rabbit.

I can also hear everything which is actually annoying. Bubbles in a can, buzzing...everything. I sometimes have to go around the house turning this off.

Itwasaquarterpast11 · 27/09/2020 08:40

I can read really fast (and remember what I read). So I can do a regular sized book in an hour or so.

carlywurky · 27/09/2020 08:41

I have a photographic memory for spellings and number plates.

I can also hold particular shades of colour in my mind really clearly, which comes in useful if I'm looking for things to go together- either when decorating or picking outfits.

AstiniMartini · 27/09/2020 08:45

I can always throw rolled up paper into the bin from anywhere in the room and often without looking at the bin and get it in.

If I were taller and not obese I would have been a fabulous basketballer.
