How comes every single time I have five guys I get a stomach upset ?

I’ve obviously decided I can’t eat it anymore as this happens everytime
I’ll have to stick to Nando’s when our shopping etc
But it’s so odd as no where else upset my stomach like this
Just makes me wonder why is it ?
Other fast food doesn't have this effect on me

Although I knew precisely what this thread would be about I can't stop laughing at the title. Sorry Grin

I'd say maybe its the peanut oil they use for the fries. It does make them really yummy though. The fries, not the guys Wink

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 16/09/2020 16:52

Five guys? In one go? Chance would be a fine thing Grin

Lardlizard · 16/09/2020 16:55

Ruth my kids didn’t get to come along because they were at school Grin

Because it's rank. I don't know how they got their 'quality burger' reputation. Just by charging more I think Confused

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 16/09/2020 17:01

@OnceUponAThimble

McD's fry chips in lard too I think?
Only in the US.
Hoppinggreen · 16/09/2020 17:01

Try 4 and if that doesn’t affect you too badly try another one

tillytoodles1 · 16/09/2020 17:07

I'm fine with a burger from McDonald's, but I tried Burger King a few times and had an upset stomach each time.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 16/09/2020 17:19

The greasiness? I can no longer have any takeaways, I’m vegetarian so only had veggie options from any of them for years but I’ve gradually decided I just can’t have them anymore. Same result whether it’s Indian, Chinese, Pie n Chips, Pizza etc. I’ve come to the conclusion the thing they all have in common is greasiness, whatever oil it may be involved, don’t seem to be able to tolerate it.

No - vegetable oil.
twilightermummy · 16/09/2020 17:38

I bloody love Five Guys. We don’t have one locally so it’s such a treat for me when I go away!

DidoAtTheLido · 16/09/2020 17:39

Macdonalds fries used to be cooked in beef fat, but are now cooked in veg fat laced with 'natural beef flavour' which is derived from hydrolysed milk and wheat, so the phrase means 'the flavour of natural beef' 'rather than natural beef creates the flavour'.

Yum.

In the UK and in the USA.

Loving the thread title but slightly disappointed that the OP didn’t actually have 5 guys.

stardance · 16/09/2020 17:49

Just so you know, if you think it could be the peanut oil that's the issue- you can ask for your burger to be cooked in different oil. My son has a peanut allergy, he can't have the fries as they're always cooked in peanut oil but he can have a burger/ hot dog, the staff are always amazing at making sure it's cooked totally separately.

Me too. I think a lot of us have had 5 guys, just not all at once. Grin
JovialNickname · 16/09/2020 17:56

Having five guys at once will do that OP Grin

Iwouldlikesomecake · 16/09/2020 18:08

It’s so greasy. I bloody love a dirty burger but not Five Guys, it’s Ming

LittleGwyneth · 16/09/2020 18:11

They do their chips in peanut oil - could it be that?

LockdownLucy · 16/09/2020 18:14

I had this for a while, whenever I had a nice lunch/takeaway/bigger than usual or fattier than usual meal I'd have a super sensitive tum. Got so exhausted with sitting on the loo and feeling rough so I went to the doc.

I consequently was diagnosed with giardiasis and some antibiotics sorted it out.

Worth a GP visit love x Easily sorted if it's a simple stomach/gut infection.

IceBearRocks · 16/09/2020 18:14

I am 43 and have only been to pizza hut 3 times ..

Everytime I go I puke on thier doorstep !!! It is not for me!!

Five guys though...that's sad xxx

rosecakequeen · 16/09/2020 18:15

I'm surprised it's just your stomach that gets upset.

LockdownLucy · 16/09/2020 18:16

Gut or stomach infections can just lurk day to day, until you throw a load of food at it, I probably picked it up on a foreign holiday months before I finally got it sorted.

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2020 18:17

DS has a friend who comes out in hives when he eats fish n chips from a particular shop. No one else is affected, and he’s don’t either other chippies.

That's the US site.

In the UK their fries are literally just potatoes, oil and salt and are cooked in vegetable oil.

AlternativePerspective · 16/09/2020 18:21

Because they’re revolting. I have no idea why people rave about it so much. And it’s bloody extortionate.

TheGreatWave · 16/09/2020 18:22

I am actually quite shocked that a restaurant uses peanut oil to cook with.

DS has a friend who comes out in hives when he eats fish n chips from a particular shop.

My ds would come out in hives after a certain pizza, it was really strange.
