Watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike.
Psych.

Now gather nicely in groups of no more than six...
Unless you're outdoors in Wales...

Oh well, come on in whatever the laws where you are. Plenty of space in this bubble of sanity Wink

There are some crazies out there on the other threads. Going to hide here.
This thread kept me sane during lockdown!!
Year 3 and 5 sent home from dd school this week to self isolate. Sigh.
It's only a matter of time but I thought we had more time.

SomewhereEast · 15/09/2020 17:01

@starfish88

Today I tripped over a social distancing sticker that had peeled away on one edge. As a white woman in her early 30s with no preconditions I think I was probably in more danger from that than covid!
I bumped my head on a low hanging lamp trying to follow the one way arrows in our local Cafe Nero. It is my only Covid injury thus far Grin.
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 15/09/2020 17:05

I nearly went flying when I tripped over a trainer left in the hall. Why can’t people EVER put their bloody shoes away?

*it was mine. 😳

Willow2017 · 15/09/2020 17:29

Drs! Someone in my dept is off with poss covid. Off over a week and still not for the results back! By the time they do none of us will have to isolate as it will be over 10 bloody days anyway and they can come back!! Ridiculous.

TheOrchidKiller · 15/09/2020 17:30

So far this week I have read that apart from being fat, over 50, or other health issues. Now we have been told if we snore we are 3x more likely to die. Vaping 3x more likely to die. Todays gem if we drink too much alcohol we are 35% more likely to die.

Sheesh, perhaps I'd better go & check on DH? I think he's asleep in the garden. He doesn't vape & drinks within moderation, but maybe we can do something about that ...Grin

So 3/4 of the people off work with children sent home from school with colds & coughs in the last week are coming back to work because they are all negative! Still waiting for results for the rest. This is excellent news all round. Until next week when it inevitably happens again.

I get the sense of impending doom thing too. That and the weird physical sensation I get on catching myself wondering how a tiny virus has shafted us so much. Today it was triggered by an online training presentation & the presenter saying, "face-to-face training has gone now." Not "gone for the time being," or "temporarily discontinued," which is how I prefer to see it.

Willow2017 · 15/09/2020 17:32

The back area of our place is like a paddling pool so i am hoping I do slip and sue the arse off them😄

HeIenaDove · 15/09/2020 17:47

Another national lockdown isnt likely is it?

110APiccadilly · 15/09/2020 17:55

I thought it was Charles who wanted to be re-incarnated as a virus, not Philip? But I may be wrong.

Today I realised what the gazebos in the car park with the bored looking people in yellow hi-vis jackets standing round them are - they are our local testing centre! I drove past at lunch time and there were cars queuing up - I've never seen anyone except the hi-vis jacketed there before.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/09/2020 18:03

The economy can't afford it! If they can't afford to continue furloughing prohibited industries, they can't afford to protect the economy again, and if you're industry doesn't involve something like alcohol hand gel, you're probably not recovered from round 1.

I've noticed the narrative on Jeremy Vine's radio show is getting more critical. Ignoring a certain cohort, I think patience is wearing thin.

I see Priti Patel has said if you're a family of 4 and you accidentally bump into another family of 4 in the street you absolutely mustn't talk to them because that constitutes illegal "mingling".

Obviously, 8 people having a picnic over a 3 hour period isn't allowed. But pausing in the street for 5 minutes, & keeping 2m apart, to ask how everyone is, to just interact like humans should do, is that now illegal?

I wish govt ministers would engage their brains before opening their mouths. There will now be people ringing the police because they've spotted a couple pausing to ask another couple with 3 children for directions because they've got lost.

It's Michael Gove and the exercise hour all over again.

And the word "mingling" can sod off. "Mingling" is what you do at a cocktail party or a conference, with a glass of wine & a vol-au-vent, neither of which are allowed. (Cocktail parties & conferences. But it's only a matter of time before wine & vol-au-vents are outlawed too. Choking hazard=taking up an ITU bed & all that).

Bollss · 15/09/2020 18:24

Checking in. Sorted out working from home now for when ds's class inevitably gets sent home at some point. I can cope if it's just two weeks but I'd at least like the poor kid to settle in first. What I can't cope with is that it might be over, and over and over again. This is not sustainable and we are lucky I can now wfh. I have no frigging idea what we would have done if I'd stayed in my old job.

I'm terrified of any of us getting symptoms because we can't really afford for dp to stay at home for two weeks on sick pay for no. Fucking. Reason.

Why the bloody hell didn't they sort the capacity before they sent schools back.

Fuckwits.

I emailed my local mp about our additional restrictions and she basically told me it's just advice and they can't enforce it so do what you want. That surprised me as she was a bit dementory to start with. She just sounds tired and fucked off now poor woman.

There is another thread on this in the board The crazies on their scare me That people actually think like this!!
ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 15/09/2020 18:28

@TheOrchidKiller, Priti Patel doesn’t know her arse from her elbow (on this and other things). Check out Adam Wagner on Twitter, he has a good thread explaining why she’s wrong.

Littlebelina · 15/09/2020 18:38

Can we force Priti Patel to self isolate, maybe if we lobby for constantly putting your foot in your mouth being a covid symptom?

Our local council have reminded us that groups larger than 6 shouldn't use the playground, what I can't work out is what that actually means. Because if it means only 6 people in the playground at any one time we'll need a covid marshall army for school kick out time....( not advocating covid Marshall army, yikes!)

WALES WARNING!!

DIL had the rage today little one was due jabs all booked in. Today they said they could not do face to face. She kicked off so they said they would do it in the car park, she said no way. They then said ok will do it in front porch with all the doors open. Which was how it was done. They told her, and wait for this. The welsh health board sent out an e-mail to all practices in Wales telling them to avoid seeing patients face to face for the next two weeks. So I guess my surgery will have to follow these new roolz now

Something is going down in Wales my nose tells me.

chocolatesweets · 15/09/2020 18:55

@justasking111 oh no! What do you mean?

In other news. I've given up ranting. There's a shift inside of me. Feeling the need to focus positively on just doing. I won't let cruelty reign.

RobinHobb · 15/09/2020 19:17

@chocolatesweets
I'm struggling to be positive, even though I have been for a while. Well done for trying

My prediction is that there will be no formal lockdown again this year but cases are steadily rising so more nonsense restrictions will happen. Schools will close again after October half term. I need to accept this and plan for it because it's the only way I can mentally cope. I know that bojo has said schools are a priority but he's fuct up just about everything so far so I have no reliance on this.

But, I also think a vaccine will be signed off my regulators by the end of the year.
Either way: maybe this continues till mid next year. If there is an end date in sight I can face it. Next year is not so far away, but that life can be like this forever I can't accept.

If there is no vaccine, then people will come to terms with it like they did with Ebola and hiv etc. I mean: mortality isn't so high for this is it? I reckon even with my fucked up lungs (or ECM) I'd get hit pretty hard but still survive.

Sorry for the pointless post... wanted to get it out of my system

RobinHobb · 15/09/2020 19:18

That should be ECV not ECM
Amongst the myriad of typos in there

110APiccadilly · 15/09/2020 19:19

@justasking111 Great, I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow - let's hope that doesn't get messed up by this as there's stuff they really need to see me face to face to do now. We're not the same health board though, so hopefully it'll be fine.

SomewhereEast · 15/09/2020 19:21

Priti Patel is nicknamed Priti Vacant for a reason isn't she?

Though to be fair to her, I think the second the government starts trying to micromanage every human interaction & make a whole swathe of normal human behaviour illegal, it gets ridiculous pretty quickly. I wish they would just leave us alone

Moods come and go. I'm in an anger phase. Not constantly, but my tolerance for sanctimony is about as high as the Covid death rate in children. It's not taking much for me to bellow obscenities at the radio at the moment.

I've had phases where I just need to ignore, like much of August when it was clear that the schools were going back and I just had to disengage from anything related to that topic. It wasn't achieving anything other than raising my blood pressure (which was probably still in the healthy range Grin )

It's not natural or healthy to be in a prolonged state of stress, especially against something not particularly tangible.

Even in World Wars, people could come together and socialise as respite. There were dances, and even if you were hunkered in a bunker hoping you, your home and loved ones survived the night, it didn't have to be alone.

TheOrchidKiller · 15/09/2020 19:23

I gave up listening to anything Priti Patel says long ago. She sounds like one of those mean girls at school who is the teacher's pet and can't see anything from anyone else's point of view.

@justasking111 good on your DIL! The blanket no face-to-face appointments ban is crazy. We had a rant about this at work today. We have been going with face-to-face appointments from the beginning when we realised that remote consultations weren't working for the majority of patients. It's not hard. You wear PPE & wash your hands & crack on. But thanks to other services refusing to do this too we are also picking up the mess they have left when patients deteriorate or can't cope.

If I could make the thumbs up sign appear on my phone now I would.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/09/2020 19:26

In stupid restrictions... it's illegal for me to fill my car with people Grin
How bonkers is that.

Six? Six? That's not even a car full!

Yes, good point. My grandparents had tough wars but they made sure they partied. My parents are War Babies Wink
