Well done!

Hopefully this opportunity will end up wherever it needs to go: Little Angel puppet theater professional development scheme for London Black women:

Can't believe it isn't a thing already tbh, there's boards for everything else

@mids2019

Great idea in general.

I do take the point that there is a threat of virtual segregation in terms of an area for one ethnicity.

I think in some sense discussing parenting in a single space allows others to learn of others life experiences.

This may be a bit utopian but by seeing the challenges presented to others we can modify our individual behaviour in response.

The easy solution is that threads started outside of the new section are moved there only at the OP's request. Any threads on black issues started outside the new section can remain there. So, no segregation, only additional space.

I just saw a thread in a section called Black Mumsnetters, and now I can't find it again! Is the new section part of the Talk topic?

I'm white and welcome having a 'black' board. I've learned more about racism in the last few months since the rise of BLM, than I have in the past 20years. Up to now i was trying to be 'colour blind' but now realise that that's totally shit, and as bad as pretending that sex differences don't exist, for example.

At work we've been doing 'lived experience' sessions and it's a real eye opener.

The more discussion, the better, because it dispels myths , educates and allows people to understand each other's experiences and difficulties better. I really think that I've changed my attitude and approach for years better recently, and I considered myself pretty educated and enlightened before. There's always something new to,learn if you are willing to listen.

I think it's a good idea to have the new board. Smile

Thank you @NiteWotcha, I nearly fell over in shock when I saw it, and can't wait to get stuck in. I'm so excited!

Bit shout out to @PatricksRum for being instrumental in petitioning for it. I was on your initial thread a few months ago (under a different username), and felt exhausted just from contributing, never mind being the OP. You did really well.
