What has happened to all the tinned sweetcorn

There was absolutely none of any brand earlier this week in tesco. I thought nothing of it but have just been to sainsburys in a different town and none there either. Both seemed to have plenty of fresh sweetcorn.
So is it Brexit, covid, zombies or what?

DP just reported shortage in our local Asda, got one tin but only salted available and not usual Green Giant.

AriettyHomily · 05/09/2020 19:31

I tried to add some to our Sainsbury's shop and nothing. Did get frozen.

SallySolardel · 05/09/2020 19:36

No sweetcorn in sainsburys today, but they did have some creamed corn whatever that is

GooodMythicalMorning · 05/09/2020 19:39

yep same issue. I eat sweetcorn every day but struggling to find it amd any tins I do are hard and tough to eat.

White sauce has gone missing here too.

peony68 · 05/09/2020 19:44

Morrissons had loads of tinned sweetcorn today.

Deadringer · 05/09/2020 19:44

It's all in my cupboard, sorry. Dh does the shopping and he buys the same stuff every week whether we use it or not, so it's a beans, passata and sweetcorn bonanza at my house.

You probably need to try opening the tins and eating the contents HTH

Have just come back from Sainsbury’s (Superstore) thinking the same thing

They didn’t have any in the small tesco or Sainsbury’s and I just thought it was because they are smaller shops

Lots of tin tomatoes from Italyz I noticed quite a few people buying lots of tins, pasta, rice I think some are starting to stock pile too

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 05/09/2020 21:29

@CarolVordermansArse thanks, I will have a look in Morrisons. My spies have also found them in the pound shop so will try there too. I'm sending them to Canada as apparently they are not allowed them there due to calcium levels?!

gavisconismyfriend · 05/09/2020 21:51

Own brand available in my local coop, all others not in stock. No tinned tuna at all....

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 05/09/2020 21:56

French mustard seems to be hard to get round here, no problem with sweetcorn though.

shinynewapple2020 · 05/09/2020 23:03

Yes it's weird . Not been able to get my normal sweet corn since lockdown . Minute cans of Green Giant or Value only (value in salt and sugar )

ifiwasascent · 05/09/2020 23:09

I noticed this in Tesco last week and was really surprised. Got some from Co-op today

MeridaTheBold · 05/09/2020 23:13

We have tinned tuna and mustard ... maybe we should start a black market bartering system. Grin

simpson · 06/09/2020 00:45

Frozen sweetcorn is 🤮

StealthPolarBear · 06/09/2020 09:05

shinynewapple2020 it was fine here until a few weeks ago as far as I know.

Well I've just headed into the depths of the cupboard and found on lonely tin remaining.
I've also found an unopened soy sauce if anyone wants to trade :o

As PPs have stated, the tinned corn you are eating now is from last year's harvest, this year's has been badly affected by the weather. I suspect that some of last year's is being held back so it can be sold at a higher price, and also to ensure there is at least some in the supply chain.

As to hoarding, I also suspect many people are stocking up slowly as there's bound to be an increase in lockdowns, whether national or regional.

minnieok · 06/09/2020 09:22

I bought 9 cans (3 packs of 3) when finally i found it. Dd only eats peas and sweet corn without coercion (asd)

Inkpaperstars · 06/09/2020 15:25

Tinned sweetcorn that was in our Waitrose online order has been removed!
