So much happening right now. I can’t keep up.
Carley, a Preston nurse was sacked from her job for attending the Trafalgar Square protest..she speaks very passionately here about all the elderly locked up in care homes, who still haven’t seen their family for 5 or 6 months ..while everyone else had been out enjoying Rishi dinners

Then there was the Sheffield protest today that ended up anything but peacefully.

Piers Corbyn was arrested again today and a man was injured.
His heart stopped. Police gave him cpr and paramedics arrived. They got him going again and I’ve seen he’s been visited I. Hospital and he’s pulling through.

No one ends up covered In Glory though

On another thread someone asked what could you hear outside your home, I suddenly realised that on Monday I would once again hear the primary school children at playtime and that for the first time four of my grand children would be a part of the noise. That put a daft smile on my face. I shall be listening at 10.30 on Monday. Grin

Just checked the media not a word about the man whose heart stopped, nor the strange sight of ambulance staff in haz mat suits.

@Thanksitsgotpockets

Funny moment in Costa today. I couldn't work out what the woman was saying to me through her mask and the perspex screen. I asked her to repeat twice, still no clue. I looked blankly at my husband and asked if he had got it...nope.... So the woman repeated a third time. He managed to glean she was asking did we want a medium drink. Yes please, medium, I said. Then worried she'd thought I was being funny with her said I was sorry and it was all the background noise.

Nope, nothing to do with the thick white mask and perspex screen muffling everything at all

This every single day! Staff spend nore time leaning around the screen than behind it neither we nor customers can hear a word! It's ridiculous.
RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 05/09/2020 23:24

@Littlebelina

They also accuse them of being a right wing group. They then can accuse anyone who is remotely positive about schools of being a member as a way of shutting down debate and belittling people. Personally have no idea about usforthem political associations but think it's a twattish way to avoid discussion.
It's (kinda) weird, how both attacking extremes are accusing the other of being 'right wing' To me in the uk (just with regard CV and lower case rather than party) conservative - individualist and responsible for self - (so re CV that's us) socialist - nanny state - (do as you are told for the greater good)

BUT on the other side both are perceiving the other as Right Wing
Right Wing as Hitler - label 'others'; blame others; other, others
or
Right Wing - errrr as quote. but my mind doesn't compute that as 'right wing'

Sorry, (red wine) rambling. But how does sticking up for disadvantaged groups compute as RIGHT WING

That brings out the gimmer in me and I start barking “ENNUNCIATE” like a broken Dalek. 😂😳

As I understand it, Right Wing is now code for irredeemably evil. And that if someone who might be Right Wing says the sky is blue or the grass is mainly green, you must disagree instantly lest you too be tainted. I think this is how it works.

ISaySteadyOn · 06/09/2020 06:23

Also, I am feeling hopeful. DC go back to school tomorrow which will be stressful but nice.

And, yesterday, we went out to supper with FIL who is lovely. I was facing the street so could see people and buses. Here there seems now to be a pretty even mix of mask and non mask on the streets, in shops and on buses which is heartening.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/09/2020 07:25

Morning! I'm up and going this morning as I shall be using the gym. Hoping to get there nice and early just so I can use the weights...there is currently a 4 person limit in the weights area, because yknow....covid. its a ballache. I've not made it in there yet.....
I asked if I could just take two Dumbells and a plate to the empty open bit and was told no because well, covid. This was perfectly acceptable before.

I keep being told the weight machines are free but, they are not as good. Its such an annoying first world problem.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 06/09/2020 08:27

Morning all! DD has woken up with a snotty nose and croaky throat after her rainbows day yesterday. Just a cold (no temperature) but am now slightly concerned that I am going to be taking a coughing and snotty child to school next week! She's not back til Tuesday so will hopefully be over it by then. Fingers crossed!

ISaySteadyOn · 06/09/2020 09:01

Mine are crossed for you!

Yy. It's been used a reason to tar them. On the school threads now usforthem is used as an insult to shut people up often at people who I suspect might never have heard of them. It's another reason I try not to engage, there is a core group who are set in their ideas and the threads become an echo chamber (although I'm sure they'll accuse us of same)

Accusing people of being right wing if you disagree with them is lazy. Plus it ignores the fact (that according to the last election) that large numbers in this country do lean right. There is being right wing (vote Conservative, economically reserved, want to control immigration etc) and then there is being right wing (extreme right, EDL). When people use right wing as an insult it's often aimed at the former but is invoking images of the latter.

I've no idea if usforthem are right wing as don't know much about them as can find very little online and aren't in their fb group. I'd be disappointed if they had been taken over by the extreme right wing as implied by the school dementors (be curious if anyone who knows more can comment) but there are plenty of people who are positive about schools returning who aren't associated with them anyway.

I'm not right wing, fairly centralist ever so slightly left but know plenty of perfectly normal people who are and can seperate them in my mind from right wing extremists.

ISaySteadyOn · 06/09/2020 09:20

Yes, I agree with that assessment entirely.
I don't entirely know where I fit politically any more but that's not new to this. Have been grappling with it for a while.

Bollss · 06/09/2020 09:37

I actually did join us for them FB group. I have no idea whether they are right wing, and ok it could be my political ignorance but there is nobody really talking politics on their as in, right good, left bad, thank you to our Good leader Boris. It's more just " our children need school and the government need to listen to us" which I why I joined.

I must say I've stopped following the page at the moment because it's got very "no masks or no school" and whilst I actually wholeheartedly agree that masks have no place in schools, I'm not sure refusing to go really fits with what they wanted in the first place so... I dunno. It's a way to make people listen I guess.

Again though nothing specifically right wing and certainly not far right about it. Actually a lot of people are trying to be inclusive, wrt to all children being back and those with additional needs not being excluded etc which I imagine the far right wouldn't give a shiny shit about.

It's funny because I am usually fairly left wing but I don't think they've covered themselves in glory either. Bunch of fence sitters. I mean it took a footballer to do their job re fsm, it's embarrassing.

Yep - doing this and being extreme right wing do not go together. As usual with these groups though, the starters have really good aims - it gains traction and they they are either taken over by loud mouth extreme people (right or left) OR the power they are perceived to have goes to their heads and they become more extreme.

I think a problem for the left is that Rishi has behaved in a very non conservative way and chucked money at it. Not always in the best way I don't think and inevitably some have fallen through the cracks but he has, as far as anyone could do in his position, tried to provide a financial safety net. It's difficult for the left to criticise, when the government is doing a pretty good job on that front.

The rest of it is a shit show, and I know people have fallen through the cracks but Rish did good. (Eye on being the next leader I suspect)

Something about usforthem here. Seems they are against the schools closing again and are not plitical, (it says anyway)

MN seems to hate them. But what do I know Confused
They denied the impact on mothers of schools closing and being hit worst by lockdown in spite of loads of evidence I remember. (MN not usforthem)

BogRollBOGOF · 06/09/2020 11:06

I've hidden Us For Them. The constant face masks thing and hearing about Dementory school policies wasn't great for my state of mind. My organisation skills can't cope with sending Christmas cards, let alone letters to MPs and I never did twitter, so I'm not good campaigner fodder!

There's no "party politics" involved on there, and there is a strong concern that many "Covid Safe" measures are harmful to children with addition needs (being SENs or general wellbeing)

As a general, the more vociferous people that I've snoozed over the last 6 months tend to overlap strongly with Corbynites that got snoozed in December. That's not necessarily a politics thing as a people who are vociferous about their politics thing, although I don't tend to encounter that from strongly pro-Conservative types.

My politics are centreist and flexible. I could go to the polling booth on one day and vote for party A in the council elections and party B in a general election because they are different contexts and different applications of policy.

Pixel77 · 06/09/2020 11:11

It would be nice and easy to think there was one 'right way' and all we need to do is that. It's all about weighting things up and considering advantages and disadvantages against. Looking at taking care and also considering the children's mental health, not one or the other. Nothing is that simple.

Willow2017 · 06/09/2020 11:11

Us4Them Scot seem a pretty decent bunch tbh. Obviously the snp are getting mist of the flack and they serm to be the worst at replying to emails or providing any kind of reasons for the inconsistencies in regional/school policy. Other mps are doing much better in the science and common sense stakes.
Some people are whining on about it being too political but its not when Am I are running the shitshow and ignoring parents and teachers voices. There are teachers on there who want the whole thing ended and get in with teaching.

Willow2017 · 06/09/2020 11:12

Am?? SNP!!

Pixel77 · 06/09/2020 11:12

I take it the usforthem mums mainly have healthy children not vulnerable ones or those in special schools who might be more at risk.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 06/09/2020 12:16

I'm in Us for Them. It's a group anyone can so of course there's some oddballs in there. But the aim is to get kids back in school without measures that would impact learning and development. The admins are very clear that anti vax nonsense and teacher bashing aren't welcome. It doesn't stop individuals posting that shite but it gets deleted.

I think we all agree there's a huge amount of noise from the "we're all going to die if the schools go back" camp. There needs to be noise from the other point of view as well. Especially as Dear Boris seems to make policy by opening the window and listening to whoever is shouting the loudest.
