Please Smile

Desperately need to find some sandbags to be delivered to the Torbay area of Devon for an animal sanctuary about to be flooded due to sheer amount of rain and poor drainage.

Needed for delivery TOMORROW.

HAS to be couriered by DPD as they’re the only company who are willing to go to the property as it is so remote. No other company can be considered unfortunately.

Or anyone in that area who is kind enough and able to help and has vehicular access to go with some?

This is for a charity who quite literally are up a gumtree Sad

Any links to a company would be fantastic - thankyou xx

What is the name of the charity?

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 27/08/2020 21:01

Couldn't see what sort of animals they are. I know you said there are a lot.
Are they horses? Or something smaller that could be picked up and moved in a van.
How many are there?
Do they exist?

PerkingFaintly · 27/08/2020 21:49

Bump.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 27/08/2020 21:54

Try posting [[https://www.facebook.com/groups/floodedpets/?ref=share here]]. It’s a FB group which was set up during the floods of ten years ago (?) Lots of people offered to take animals in for the duration.

It’s not that active now but you might just get a response.

peppermintpigs · 27/08/2020 21:58

I'm surprised there are no flood warnings

@peppermintpigs

I'm surprised there are no flood warnings
I have seen the FB page for the sanctuary, there is a LOT of water there. If the rain is anything like we have had where I am there should be a flood warning.
peppermintpigs · 27/08/2020 22:20

What is it called?

Soshelpplease · 27/08/2020 22:36

Thankyou all - am forwarding on all advice and looking into options while messaging.
Massive multi-tasking going on x

What’s the sanctuary called? Just to stop the troll hunting as much as anything. Mumsnet has a big audience and all publicity will help.

YummyJamDoughnut · 27/08/2020 23:09

Agree that a facebook appeal is needed.
People are great sometimes and may be able to get them to you

peppermintpigs · 27/08/2020 23:35

I've emailed somebody local to them who might be able to help.

Soshelpplease · 28/08/2020 07:58

Thankyou everyone. Unfortunately I’m not local to them at all (5-7hrs drive away) which is why I put the shout-out for sandbags.

Am waiting for an update myself.

OP posts:
Soshelpplease · 28/08/2020 07:59

It’s not my place to publicly announce the name of her charity. The safety of her animals is her priority and as such, I did what I could by the means I had available.

Please don’t troll-hunt me, that’s not deserved.

Doccomplaint · 28/08/2020 08:11

Can’t the woman google?

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 28/08/2020 08:17

How are we supposed to get the sand bags, that we have been filling all night, to them if you won't say who they are?

MitziK · 28/08/2020 08:27

Has she not contacted the Herald or Devon Live?

They love stories like this.

Soshelpplease · 28/08/2020 08:39

@Doccomplaint
@WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat

Read my opening post - it’s quite clear to those who are nice people & then remove yourself from this thread. Thanks.

OP posts:
Doccomplaint · 28/08/2020 08:43

You’re not the thread police. I never said they weren’t nice.

But you must see how odd this thread is.

Shouting urgent in the title. You’re miles away and aren’t the actual person affected. You’re asking without giving details. Is this a charity? Registered? Are you affiliated to them? Are you going to get donations?

When the people themselves could google. Put out a local appeal.

Soshelpplease · 28/08/2020 08:48

All I asked for was a DPD courier sourced sandbag delivery link.

That’s all.

Get a grip.

OP posts:
Doccomplaint · 28/08/2020 08:49

Why can the actual people affected ask? Google?

Why won’t you give their name?

Kittykat93 · 28/08/2020 08:54

Op if this charity is in a desperate situation as you say, you would give the name surely?? People are trying to help here!

Doccomplaint · 28/08/2020 08:58

How are they going to pay for the sandbags and delivery? You haven’t given any kind of assurance that they actually agree to this delivery.

I understand wanting to help but this is not the right way to go about it.

Imagine some DPd driver rocks up with £££ of sandbags and they refuse to pay for it and say we didn’t ask for this

MitziK · 28/08/2020 09:07

@Soshelpplease

And if you weren't being so bloody shady about it, I might have been able to call my BIL who is a builder with a shitload of sand to see whether he'd be up for helping with his mates. Or maybe DP's uncle, who lives even closer.

But you won't even say who or where it is. So you've made it impossible to actually help with free/cost price fucking sandbags, personal delivery, bodies on the ground and agricultural/construction equipment or a potentially safe area to hold any evacuated animals.

Not troll hunting. But if you actually wanted help rather than attention, wouldn't you be saying who needs it?

DidoAtTheLido · 28/08/2020 11:09

I suppose the OP wanted posters to research and report back “Such and such a co have sandbags and will deliver to the area via that courier”.

But this is he sort of flailing about in an amateur sort of way that often goes wrong.

I hope the charity had a good risk assessment and plan, and were able to get the help they needed.

Doccomplaint · 28/08/2020 11:25

But wouldn’t it have been more sensible to link direct to the organisation and let them drive what was required?
