Just read online the awful news that she has advanced breast cancer....poor girl...shes only 38 years old.

OP posts:
Funnyface1 · 26/08/2020 17:40

I lost my sister to breast cancer a few years ago. None of us knew she was even poorly until she had very little time left. It's always awful to hear of women being diagnosed with this so young and I really wish Sarah all the best. When I read that it has spread I felt very sad. Haven't really come to terms with my sister's death yet. Still can't believe it can be so aggressive and so quick.

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/08/2020 17:40

She has had quite a difficult life from what I read over the years so it seems even sadder somehow. I think many of us hope that eventually those who have endured difficult childhood, addiction issues etc will eventually find their happiness. I wish her all the best with her treatment and hopefully it will give her some extra time with loved ones.

Quirrelsotherface · 26/08/2020 17:45

The person who replied 'who?' is a troll, somebody with probably very little happiness in their own lives and they have to be 'controversial' to claw a bit of attention. Ignore and move on.

Very sad news about SH, feels like she has been through a lot in her life even before this.

Believe me Sarah Harding will be on an oncology ward and there would be no mistaking what treatment she was having so no way anyone would think she was pregnant or visiting someone.

Well that depends on where they saw her at the hospital doesn't it? Unless she is being treated somewhere like The Royal Marsden, the oncology ward/chemo centre will be within a bigger hospital, so she could be there for anything. It's totally not beyond the realms that someone saw her walking through the main entrance and jumped to the wrong conclusions.

SoManyActivities · 26/08/2020 17:51

I used to be quite the fan of Girls Aloud and watched that fly on the wall documentary they did. It was surprisingly warts and all, given they were still on the rise at the time, and whilst Cheryl a couple of the others were quite diva-ish and moany, Sarah always seemed like she was having a great time and genuinely seemed like she thought she was so lucky to be living that life and making the most of it all. I know that she had issues later on, but I always thought she seemed really genuine and lovely.

Smallsteps88 · 26/08/2020 17:52

@Bubblebu

I have breast cancer. I'm a single mum of 2 and have been through 6 rounds of chemo.

Believe me Sarah Harding will be on an oncology ward and there would be no mistaking what treatment she was having so no way anyone would think she was pregnant or visiting someone.

Whoever outed her is such a low life. As is the Daily Fail who published a snidey article about her "wild days" (as if implying that she brought it on herself in some way). Lowest of the low.

Totally agree with you and also wish you well in your own circumstances x
SoManyActivities · 26/08/2020 17:55

@Bubblebu Yes, I am sorry I know I replied to your post for something else but I wanted to say all the best. I have been there and got through it and its bloody hard but hopefully you will get through it too Flowers

lotusbell · 26/08/2020 17:55

@Devlesko it was more at the first sentence of your comment -
I don't know anyone who saw that she had been in hospital

It wasn't common knowledge, she only announced it today but someone saw her and she obviously knew there'd be speculation in the Press.

Or do you mean you don't know anyone who had heard rumours she was in hospital? In which case I fully apologise, I hadn't heard any such rumour either.

Bubblebu · 26/08/2020 17:59

SoMany.

I take your point and I guess if she is being treated at a private hospital her privacy might be guarded more. But if she is at a public NHS hospital the oncology sections are open to the general public who are being treated for cancer. Anyone who knows who she is could have recognised her.

But if not, then there is no mistaking what is going on when you sit on a chemo drip on a weekly basis. And whilst I have heard of people being pregnant and going through cancer at the same time I think that is unusual. That is why the oncology consultant is so careful to make clear the risks of chemo - and tell you in no uncertain terms not to get pregnant whilst you are having cancer treatment because of the risks to the unborn baby.
And then of course your hair drops out. Again your hair dropping out does not mean that you could not be pregnant - but it would be bit of a clue to any onlookers.

Bubblebu · 26/08/2020 18:01

SoMany, just seen your above reply - glad you survived it.

CatherineCoward · 26/08/2020 18:29

A beautiful , vibrant and feisty young woman. Absolute stunner of a woman. Please god she will be ok. Please god she will overcome this.

igot20joe · 26/08/2020 18:38

She hasn’t actually said she’s got stage 4.

SpangleBug · 26/08/2020 18:43

She hasn’t actually said she’s got stage 4.

She said that it's spread to other parts of her body. That's the definition of Stage 4 isn't it?

Pertella · 26/08/2020 18:45

@igot20joe

She hasn’t actually said she’s got stage 4.
She said it had spread to other parts of her body, which is what stage 4 is...

www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/breast-cancer/stages-types-grades/number-stages/stage-4

No, it can be stage 3. It depends on what exactly it’s spread to. Sad
exPR · 26/08/2020 18:49

Metastasised generally means stage 4.

I know of 2 women who are still alive 10 years after a stage 4 BC diagnosis and they were diagnosed in their 20s so it’s not necessarily a death sentence but still a very hard road she’s on.

I just wish people would stop using words like fight and battle and courage. People don’t die from cancer because they didn’t fight hard enough or weren’t brave enough. They die because it’s an awful bastard of a disease that doesn’t care who you are.

igot20joe · 26/08/2020 18:50

She hasn’t said it’s metastasised. I’m sorry but I feel it’s incredibly important to only discuss what she has actually said.

SoupDragon · 26/08/2020 18:52

@Longwhiskers14

Such sad news. I'm finding find the headlines baffling though: Sarah Harding says she has breast cancer. Why the need for 'says she has'? Why not just 'Sarah Harding has breast cancer'? It's like they don't believe her. Weird.
I imagine it is because she announced it so the headline makes It clear that it is first hand and not someone else blabbing. It's not going to be because they don't believe her.
PiataMaiNei · 26/08/2020 19:08

@Devlesko

lotusbell

Yes, really. I know she was in a group in the 90"s, I don't know which.
I hadn't heard she'd been in hospital and if she hadn't announced it, there would be no thread Confused

I wish her well, but all this forced into it crap, she was within her rights to/ could easily have kept it quiet if she wanted to, just like many other slebs do.
I'm not suggesting she should have done btw, it's her decision to do as she feels fit.
I hope treatment is good for her and she pulls through.

You have absolutely no idea whether she could've kept it quiet or not: other famous people being able to has no bearing at all on her circumstances. Stop bullshitting.
GertiMJN · 26/08/2020 19:15

The quote from SH
Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a couple of weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer has advanced to other parts of my body.

GertiMJN · 26/08/2020 19:16

I read that as metastases. Sad

maddiemookins16mum · 26/08/2020 19:19

Poor lass. How utterly devastating for her and her loved ones.

LouisBalfour · 26/08/2020 19:20

Shame on the cretin who took delight in gossiping about her online so she felt she had to make this public.

Pertella · 26/08/2020 19:20

I'm not going to get into a prolonged debate, but Sarah's words imply stage 4 and they match Cancer Research UK definition:

Stage 4 breast cancer means that the cancerhas spread to other parts of the body

On their website Stage 3 is defined as

has spread from the breast to lymph nodes close to the breast or to the skin of the breast or to the chest wall

Lugubelenus · 26/08/2020 19:29

Poor woman and shame on the person who decided to announce she was being treated in hospital in the first place, a cancer diagnosis is tough, the treatment even tougher and it's not something anyone wants to undergo in the public eye.

I wish her well.
