Just read online the awful news that she has advanced breast cancer....poor girl...shes only 38 years old.

OP posts:

Stage 4 can't be cured, but it can be lived with for a long time. I hope she responds well to chemo and has a long time.

Caneloalvarez · 26/08/2020 14:00

@OnlyFoolsnMothers yes I think this is the feeling ☹️ I'm close to her age and also like girls aloud, have seen them perform a few times! Its so sad that this happens to people so young.. so unfair. I hope Sarah comes through this safe and well even though it has spread.. the bastard ☹️
Breast cancer just seems far too common these days. I know it's rare in young people but I wish there was more routine screening available.. my mum had it and is thankfully ok but she had a lump that was only picked up on a routine mammogram (large boobs!) I have looked into getting myself regular mammograms but it seems you can't until you hit 40 (someone pls correct me if I'm wrong?!)

Bluntness100 · 26/08/2020 14:03

I suspect the person who saw her at hospital had no idea. For all they knew she could have been pregnant.

I am really shocked by the news though. She is so young and is such a vibrant character.

@FlibbertyGiblets

So she has been bounced into announcing her illness in preference to being the subject of speculation, using up valuable energy both physical and emotional.
I don’t know if it’s possible for the news to be even sadder but this really is a cruel add on

Why would it be any less twatty if it were pregnancy or some other medical issue? The point is that medical treatment, whatever it is, is private and shouldn’t be disclosed unless the patient wants it to be.
ZoeCM · 26/08/2020 14:09

@bridgetreilly

Who?
I never understand why people post this. You're literally on the Internet! Just use Google!

Oh cmon, she could even have been visiting someone.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 26/08/2020 14:15

I really really hope she pulls through but the statistics sadly suggest otherwise...I lost my mum at 52 to cancer so live in fear of this hideous disease.

OP posts:
SoManyActivities · 26/08/2020 14:16

The poor woman is also now going to be inundated with the 'don't do chemo, you need to take cannabis oil/tumeric/apricot kernels/alkaline diet' bullshit as well.

spaghettihoops16 · 26/08/2020 14:18

How awful! My heart goes out to her 💗

Samcro · 26/08/2020 14:19

thats sad.

I'm sorry you lost your Mum at such a young age.

But I don't think it's appropriate to speculate on a stranger's prognosis on the internet.

lotusbell · 26/08/2020 14:25

@Devlesko, really???

buttery81 · 26/08/2020 14:28

This is so sad! I've always liked Sarah - she has always come across as the nicest and most genuine of the Girls Aloud girls to me (along with Nadine).

Devlesko · 26/08/2020 14:39

lotusbell

Yes, really. I know she was in a group in the 90"s, I don't know which.
I hadn't heard she'd been in hospital and if she hadn't announced it, there would be no thread Confused

I wish her well, but all this forced into it crap, she was within her rights to/ could easily have kept it quiet if she wanted to, just like many other slebs do.
I'm not suggesting she should have done btw, it's her decision to do as she feels fit.
I hope treatment is good for her and she pulls through.

GertiMJN · 26/08/2020 14:49

I know people are trying to be positive and supportive, but once cancer has spread it is not curable. This is why she describes this news as "devastating".

As pps have said it is treatable even if not curable. And I hope treatment works well to give her as much time as possible.

But I know how difficult my dearest friend found it after her news that her cancer had metastasised, when people said things like "you can beat this" or "I hope you pull through".

Living with secondary cancer is so tough and my heart goes out to everyone in this situation ❤

shieldedsally · 26/08/2020 15:02

I wish her all the strength in her fight. It's just not fair. 38, FFS. Far, far too young.

Starsabove1 · 26/08/2020 15:08

@bridgetreilly well done you! You’ve shown everyone how superior you are by asking ‘who’! You’re so clever! And original!

No one is thinking you are a twat for using a post about someone with advanced cancer to show your superiority at all!

Pertella · 26/08/2020 16:31

She was keeping it private, until someone saw her in hospital and was threatening to out her, so she made an announcement on her own terms rather than having some random sparking speculation.

SoManyActivities · 26/08/2020 16:48

She has had some issues in the past with alcohol and her mental health, so maybe she was worried the press would come to the wrong conclusion, if someone had seen her in hospital. Which would be awful at the best of times, let alone in the situation she is in now.

If she wanted the world to know about her cancer, she would have 'revealed' it months ago when she was first diagnosed. Or maybe now that she is Stage 4, she wants people to know, because it is rather a different ball game.

Who knows, what does it matter anyway really?

Bubblebu · 26/08/2020 17:17

I have breast cancer. I'm a single mum of 2 and have been through 6 rounds of chemo.

Believe me Sarah Harding will be on an oncology ward and there would be no mistaking what treatment she was having so no way anyone would think she was pregnant or visiting someone.

Whoever outed her is such a low life. As is the Daily Fail who published a snidey article about her "wild days" (as if implying that she brought it on herself in some way). Lowest of the low.

Bubblebu · 26/08/2020 17:19

Absolutely spot on about how people should respect other peoples privacy / medical conditions etc. The internet is to blame for so much which is wrong with the world.

AKissAndASmile · 26/08/2020 17:23

@Longwhiskers14

Such sad news. I'm finding find the headlines baffling though: Sarah Harding says she has breast cancer. Why the need for 'says she has'? Why not just 'Sarah Harding has breast cancer'? It's like they don't believe her. Weird.
I noticed that too Hmm
ohnomesandwiches · 26/08/2020 17:33

The article on the Mail website 'looking back at her life' is truly dispicable. She's still here FFS.

Exactly that - several tabloid reporters had been speculating on her absence on social media earlier this year and implying she was having addiction/MH issues. Add in some absolute arsehole posting online that she was in hospital and they’d have started posting wild assumptions as fact under the pretence of concern.

Some celebs can keep things quiet but it’s generally those who have never engaged with the media to begin with. Those who’ve had a lot of publicity previously are seen as fair game.
