I applied for a job in a police station office. I was expecting to be interviewed by an office manager or something but a panel of 5 high ranking officers conducted my interview. Me, an 18 year old girl and 5 older men in uniform opposite me. It totally threw me off and I was not prepared. I could hardly speak! Still laugh about it years later.

You know all those articles saying that women should apply for more jobs where they don't have all the things on the job description? I did that once. A massive stepping a specialist team in a field my work is only tangentially connected to.

It was hilariously terrible. After 10 minutes of being told 'no, that wouldn't work' it was obvious I had no idea,.so I stopped answering properly and just said 'no' 'yes' to questions hoping they would end it early. But they ground on through ALL the questions, probing me for knowledge I absolutely lacked. I considered just standing up and saying 'look, this is a waste of your time' but was too chicken.

That was 3 years ago now and I can just about walk past the room it happened in without crying...
