I was very young. They asked me about the green paper and I didn't know what that was so just fluffed it. Later found out that the fluff didn't even remotely link to the green paper. Didn't get the job.

Went to an hounslow for an interview to clean planes. It was in a hanger, tried to walk into the door but didn't see I had to 'step in' as the door started about 12 inches from the ground. Fell in,landed on my face, yelped loudly. There were about 50 people inside who just stared at me. I then got the giggles through the interview which was the final nail in the coffin.

About 10 years ago, I went for a job in my profession with a big well-known company in I'm and Europe. First interview with proposed new boss (woman) went well. Second interview with same woman and her boss (woman) went great too. Third interview-all needed to do was meet the boss's boss's boss. I was the only candidate and it was supposed to be just a ' meet and greet'. Proposed boss rang me in advance to warn me he's a bit of a strange character but I didn't worry too much about it.

Anyway, at the interview he asked me who I worked for, then we talked about the London Olympics, he asked me what DH did and where he worked and asked me in detail about my childcare arrangements. And that was it. I didn't get the job (thankfully!)

But the overt sexism I experienced annoys me to this day. I was caught off-guard. A meet and greet is never just that. Lesson learned.

I walked in the interview room, dropped my open handbag (nerves!) one Tampax rolled out. 2 others followed in succession, almost as if there was someone inside the bag rolling them out at regular intervals.

‘Got the job though!

I used to interview people. One woman came in wearing so many layers, including several scarves. She stood facing the corner of the room, with her back to us, just unwinding and unwinding all these long woollen scarves. It was like watching a Mummy.

Another one, which is probably a little unkind to recall, was a very obese chap. We quickly found him a new chair ahead of the interview, realising that he wouldn't fit in the chair provided. When he came to stand at the end he couldn't get up. He ended up windmilling his arms to get momentum. Eventually he heaved himself up only to topple forward across the interview desk. He then managed to push himself up, only to windmill his arms and topple backwards into his chair again. In the end we had to pull him upright, which took a lot of effort. He got the job though as he was more than qualified and absolutely lovely, but I really felt for him.

I had a call to say some one was at my office for an interview at 11am. His interview was for 11pm(night hygiene job) his letter clearly said 11pm. And his CV said he attention to detail!

islockdownoveryet · 26/08/2020 22:49

Oh this thread has reminded me of a interview I went to in the 90s I was like 17 just finished college a interview for a office junior.
I went in asked for the lady who was to interview me I couldn't pronounce the name and got told off by the guy on reception who smugly said you need to know the name of the person interviewing you .
The lady interviewing me had lost her voice I mean literally laryngitis I think .
I mean honestly wouldn't you postpone? So I just say there barely saying anything not hearing what she said and left . I think it was my first interview and probably my worst .

I had a shocking interview last month but got offered the job. There's a certain aspect of the job that I have no direct experience in and I was very upfront about that in advance, but I still got grilled on it. I had to keep saying I didn't know the answers to the questions they were asking, which was just awful.

The next day I got a call to say it went really well and they were offering me the job Confused. I reiterated that this one 'gap' seemed critical to the role, and was told that based on rest of my experience I'd have no problem picking it up. So who knows!

Sakura7 · 26/08/2020 23:18

And I've just seem the update, congrats!!

sunsalutations · 26/08/2020 23:21

Yay OP! 👏

clary · 26/08/2020 23:28

Not me but I was at an interview once (teaching, so everyone is there at once) and one of the candidates had a very short summer dress which split all down her back! A nice admin woman stitched it up for her. She got the job. She was young and pretty tho so it hardly did any harm!

Anyway, well done Op that's great!

yetilegs · 27/08/2020 00:02

Well done OP!
I work as a nurse and we all know nurses either find a job and stay or move around like soap actors!
I went for an interview once at a very well known children's hospital.
Tiny room.
Two interviewers.
Almost touching knees the room was that small.
So I started off by accepting a glass of water and knocking the whole jug over everyone..the room was so small we all got soaked...
Now I'd recently had a forced delivery with a 3/4th degree tear. So sphincter damage.
I also had a god awful cough....coughed and farted at the same time...whilst sat on a crappy plastic chair. It was obvious it was fart. It was loud, not in anyway disguised by the cough...
Just ploughed on like I didn't just cough and fart...
Then one interviewer asked so yetilegs...have you any questions for us?
Erm...yes..I really like your cardigan.where was that from?
Didn't get the job...their loss...😂

yetilegs · 27/08/2020 00:06

Forcep delivery...I think most deliveries are forced! 😂

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 27/08/2020 00:24

OP - I was convinced that my interview was today (Thurs 27) but I had a nagging feeling about Wed 26.

I checked with about 2hrs to go and was horrified to see that my nagging feeling was correct.

Online interview but I was horrified that I'd nearly made such a mistake.

I hope that my outcome is eventually as good as yours. (Committee work rather than work, IYSWIM, but it's a topic that means a lot to me.)

Good luck with your new employment!
