What do The Borrowers take in your house?

For me it's superglue. It doesn't matter how much I buy, the tubes just vanish!! What do they whip from you?

(If you don't know who 'The Borrowers' are, a) shame on you and b) Google them!)

Oh they have a list in this house. So far it consists of: two king size extra deep fitted sheets, 2.5 litres of unopened paint for the bathroom, a jumbo bath sheet (brand new, never even pre-washed!), a foot pump, several mugs, most of the teaspoons, two pear trees and a small carry on suitcase. What baffles me about the job is that all of those things were last put away by me. I can remember putting them away quite clearly, but not one of them is where they should be and none of them have turned up despite several years passing and almost every room in the house having been gutted and renovated. They have genuinely disappeared!

Single socks

readit · 23/08/2020 07:48

Chargers
Tea spoons
Kitchen scissors

FindMeInTheSunshine · 23/08/2020 07:53

One of a pair of shoes. What's even more irritating is they patiently wait for months or years until you give in and decide that it's never going to reappear so you throw the partner away. 5 minutes after the dustbin has been emptied they sneak it back into the place you'd looked a hundred times.

SpeedofaSloth · 23/08/2020 07:54

Pens.

Luckingfovely · 23/08/2020 07:55

Chocolate!
Trainer socks
Dog bones
Chargers
Single Converse shoes
Pens
Hummus

(Normally find the dog bone buried in the linen closet in between clean sheets six months later).

(Also wine. That's definitely the Borrowers Grin).

DancingCatGif · 23/08/2020 07:56

Scissors. We have at least six pairs in the house so why can I still never find them???

BillywilliamV · 23/08/2020 07:57

Hair brushes, scissors, charger cables

They used to take hair bobbles, but now I think they must be sh*tting them, as they are literally everywhere!

pooopypants · 23/08/2020 07:57

Socks. Just one from a pair though.

In some poster's houses - ironing boards. Was there ever an answer to that thread!?

latticechaos · 23/08/2020 07:58

Tweezers, I buy them constantly. I have no idea why they need them, but they must have eight pairs now. I have bad eyebrows as a result.

mnahmnah · 23/08/2020 07:59

My husband’s socks. My husband’s important paperwork. My husband’s sports gear. Funnily enough the borrowers aren’t interested in my stuff or the kids’ stuff. Wink

Immigrantsong · 23/08/2020 08:03

My patience, energy and sanity.

Spudlet · 23/08/2020 08:04

DS’s stripy sweatshirt. It was secondhand and very faded, and used mostly for preschool and mucky days so it’s not the material loss of it that bothers me, but the mystery of where the hell it ended up drives me bonkers every time I think about it.

It’s been a good year since it vanished and I still wonder...!

bookmum08 · 23/08/2020 08:05

My daughter's glasses. Give them back Arrietty please.
Also remote controls and phone chargers.

FippertyGibbett · 23/08/2020 08:06

Chargers definitely. They cost a fortune to replace too .

ZolaGrey · 23/08/2020 08:11

Tweezers.
Phone charger leads, never the USB plug for them though.
Hair grips.

heidbuttsupper · 23/08/2020 08:12

morosetinkler · 23/08/2020 08:51

I hope there was, I remember that thread well. How do you lose an ironing board??!!!

Cat toys. We continue to buy them and they continue to disappear (they’re not under the couch the cleaner moves it every week to clean under it). It’s a kitty toy black hole.

plinkplinkfizzer · 23/08/2020 09:02

42andcounting · 23/08/2020 09:04

I always thought there was just a vortex in our house, but your Borrower theory has merit.

I wonder what use they have found for my prescription sunglasses? They had both pairs of my daughter's glasses until recently too, then they reappeared in a place I had already checked repeatedly. They also have my work shoes which is pretty inconvenient.
