What good true crime or drama podcasts have I missed?

I’ve got a shitload of cleaning to do today and need something absorbing to listen to while I get it done.

I think I’ve listened to the whole of BBC Sounds and many, many true crime and fiction podcasts on other platforms.

I like well researched, journalistic re-tellings or re-investigations - recommend me your favourites please Smile.

Paradise
Manhunt - (the hunt for Kevin Parle)
22 hours

Standstilling · 22/08/2020 09:13

Thanks Hoist. I loved Paradise But not heard of the other one. Reviews say it stopped during lockdown but with 22 hours to get through, it will be a while before I get to that part Grin

Also found this list with one or two I’d not listened to: www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/entertainment/g27009615/best-true-crime-podcasts/

Casefile - my favourite episodes are 42: Sherri Rasmussen and 50: Jennifer Pan

hoistbymyownzombiepetard · 22/08/2020 09:43

I think Paradise sets the bar pretty high.

I have been enjoying a couple of US ones - Bardstown and Down the Hill but it is a bit frustrating waiting for updates.

Cold is terrifyingly chilling, as is Dirty John.

hoistbymyownzombiepetard · 22/08/2020 09:44

Oh, and The Clearing is very good too.

Thanks, I will check those out. Specific episode recommendations appreciated cos there’s an awful lot of Casefile.

Paradise - it does spoil you for other lesser series.

Waiting for episodes - yes, I go off the boil with a series. I like a complete series binge.

I liked Dirty John, really loved Teachers Pet, Shrink Next Door, Someone Knows Something and S Town.

Cold looks excellent, thank you.

Looked up The Clearing and realised I hadn’t finished it! Thanks for reminder.

I have no excuses for not cleaning now...

Don't want to miss the other suggestionsSmile

Thanks all.

Mensrea
The Lighthouse
The Teacher's Pet
Cults

and if you want creepy and weird stories from the Internet, I recommend The Creep Dive 🖤

QueenofLouisiana · 22/08/2020 15:26

I like Crime Junkies, but I suspect it’s a marmite one/ loved it or hate it! I also enjoyed The Lady Vanishes, lovedTeachers Pet.
I like Casefile: Leigh Leigh (sp?) upset me and made me cross. Case 104 Mark and John was fascinating and 100 The Beaumont Children was interesting too.
They Walk Among Us is all U.K. crime, I really like this.

RosieLemonade · 22/08/2020 15:41

Last Podcast on The Left - it’s 3 horrible comedians telling true crime stories. They’ve done all the big hitters and have some obscure things to. It’s pitch black humour though.

Grin Gripping, isn’t it?

I have battled the procrastination demons and got a fair bit done. Now having yet another sit down and listening to more Murder Squad.

Thank you, I do like creepy/weird so will check it out. In a similar vein, I can recommend Reply All And Red Web. Lots of good weird fiction too - recently enjoyed Borrasca.

I will check out Crime Junkies - there are far too many blokey podcasts.

I like podcasts where the presenters know their stuff. I can’t be doing with chatty waffle. Well, sometimes, but rarely.

So glad I started this thread! I’d like
to think that my house will be so
clean because I’ve got so much to listen to but...

I haven't seen My Favourite Murder mentioned, though it's the most obvious to me.

S Town is brilliant.

NoToMisogyny · 22/08/2020 18:07

LISK (Long Island Serial Killer) is excellent

I seem to be working backwards through the true crime podcast timeline so I am listening to The Murder a Squad that is exec produced by the My Favourite murder presenters but I haven’t listened to MFM! Thank you.

I loved S Town too. I get so involved and fond of the presenters and subjects of the best podcasts. Good storytelling is so satisfying. I came across something recently that talked about needing an ‘external narrative’ if you need to escape from real life. I definitely get an urge to escape into good stories, whether it’s podcasts, films, tv dramas or crime fiction.

I love David Ridgen’s work. He did Someone Knows Something and others. Canadian, kind, patient and hard nosed when he has to be.

From BBC Sounds, Shreds: Murder in the Dock is one of the best I’ve ever listened to. Not sensationalist, told through the voices of those who went through it, brilliantly done. I found the presenters of Paradise exceedingly irritating! But Ceri Dawn Jackson is an exceptional presenter, never once inserting herself into the narrative. Tragic story from start to finish too.

Also, West Cork, which was previously available on Audible. Not sure where it can be found now but it’s also excellent.

I have not. Thank you! And you’re welcome Smile

It’s been a successful thread even if I only judge it by cleaning jobs done... (today - beds changed, downstairs floors done, about to hit the batch bolognese cooking to my fourth episode of Murder Squad).
