What good true crime or drama podcasts have I missed?

I’ve got a shitload of cleaning to do today and need something absorbing to listen to while I get it done.

I think I’ve listened to the whole of BBC Sounds and many, many true crime and fiction podcasts on other platforms.

I like well researched, journalistic re-tellings or re-investigations - recommend me your favourites please Smile.

try The Harrowing 9 eps very good

GolightlyMrsGolightly · 25/08/2020 21:43

Fake heiress on sounds is fantastic. Jaw dropping and unbelievable and really well presented. Not a murder one, but about a con artist.

backseatcookers · 25/08/2020 21:55

Morbid
Killer Queens
All Killa No Filla

All three of those are two female presenters - they are respectful to the victims but dark humour throughout. I especially like AKNF because Rachel brings some a needed working class, no bullshit intelligence to the true crime table!

And Casefile is incredible of course. The anonymous host's voice is like honey!

Teachers Pet was fantastic too.

Can’t believe I forgot The Dropout! Amazing, addictive and proof that charisma can get you very fucking far... well worth a listen. Loved the reporting style and first person interviews. Warning - you will go down the Theranos scandal rabbit hole afterwards, I lost about a week of my life to YouTube videos on it!

Ah, I just came on to say Casefile, too. Think I’ve heard all of them now. Some real sad, awful and intriguing stories.

The Silk Road (about the dark web) and Alcatraz episodes (two entertaining escape attempts) are good and a bit less murdery than others. As are Ella Tundra (bonkers) and Mark and John.

I had to stop listening to some of the regular murder ones for a bit as it was getting too much listening to a new one each day on my dog walk!

I also like They Walk Among Us.

Will check out some of the others suggested here.

@Boscoismyspiritanimal

Also, West Cork, which was previously available on Audible. Not sure where it can be found now but it’s also excellent

Spotted the chief suspect a few weeks ago when on hols with family. Strange experience. The podcast has definitely upped his notoriety.

I was only thinking about him the other day... I can’t believe he is still walking free. Great podcast though.

Thank so much for all these recommendation. Podcast listening is a solitary business (or is it? Does anybody gather round and listen with the family?) that it’s nice to have people to talk to about them.

@EmmaStone

Most of my recs have been mentioned, but I also really 'enjoyed' the Daniel Morgan story, recently made into a TV series too. Horrifying story.

If you liked S Town, do you ever listen to This American Life? Not true crime, but same team. Also for a bit of light relief, Louis Theroux's Grounded has been good, and I can never get enough of Adam Buxton, particularly when he's got Joe Cornish and/or Louis as his guests.

This American Life - I have listened to a few and will go back for more. Thanks for the reminder. Also Adam Buxton. I do like Louis Theroux but some of his recent ones have been a bit indulgent. Sometimes I think he’s just waiting for the other person to stop talking so he can start, rather than listening. But I still would...

Missing in Alaska is still ongoing, the latest one drops tomorrow.

If you’ve been through BBC Sounds you have presumably listened to The Doorstep Murder?

For investigations into possible miscarriages of justice, Undisclosed.

24 Kildare Road is a series of 10 short episodes on BBC sounds.

InMySpareTime · 26/08/2020 17:54

Mortem is pretty good, if a little too into detailed technical Post Mortem details.

LemonRedwood · 26/08/2020 17:57

Drunk Women Solving Crime is my current favourite
