I've just started watching an old Celebrity Masterchef on Netflix which I hadn't seen and Vic Reeves was one of the celebs except they kept calling him Jim which made me very confused. Apparently his real name is Jim Moir. Am I alone in not knowing this?

I’ve been watching the Big Flower Fight on Netflix (bake off style competition with giant floral sculptures) which is presented by Jim/Vic. I was surprised he’s going by Vic on that because I always thought Vic was the comedy character name only.

@Smallsteps88 sorry Blush

@SmileTolerantly

I now am desperate to know whether Frank Skinner was any good as an English teacher.

I imagine Greg Davies was a great teacher. Not sure about Romesh Ranganathan - I suspect he had a sarcastic streak and he doesn’t strike me as being the most patient man. Talking of which, RR’s real first name is Jonathan.

Could we staff an entire school with out of work standups returning to their former profession?

Yes he was! I didn't like most of the books he chose though (notably Homage to Catalonia and Heart of Darkness, although I adored Equus). We were all girls so he was in his element. He was going through a very bad patch as his parents had just died. That's what spurred him on I think. He was hilarious and practised his material on us. He did have a dark side though. It was at this time that he met his first wife.

That was to @SmileTolerantly (is that a Provincial Lady reference btw?)

If so, can I bagsie Gordon Sumner as my form teacher? I'd be happy to look at him every morning!

Although I've just read your post properly and GS isn't an out of work standup!

bettsbattenburg · 18/08/2020 09:16

I did know about Vic Reeves but until this thread didn't know Frank Skinner wasn't really called, well, Frank Skinner!

Ricky Wilson from Kaiser Chiefs is really called Charles.
Vince Clarke from Depeche Mode/Yazoo/Erasure is really Vince Martin.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/08/2020 15:34

How about Robert Davis? Politician or the inventor who died almost on the day I was born.

Oh, yes. I do ride a funky moped Grin Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/08/2020 15:36

Sorry. I have met Robert Davis, many, many moons ago. In a working capacity. I was bemused as I was about to greet him enthusiastically when my boss intoduced him by his real name. The only downside of that day was that Noel Edmunds was also there!!!!! Total attention trap!

notleglass · 18/08/2020 15:43

@Longdistance that don't Impress me much 😳😅

Chungking2046 · 18/08/2020 15:44

I'm not really a Quaagar either

No but you do look remarkably like a roast chicken.

My husband worked with someone who had Greg Davies as a teacher. Apparently he was very good.

I'm possibly the last person in the solar system to learn that Helen Mirren was born Ilynea Lydia Mironoff
