Vic Reeves isn't actually Vic Reeves!

I've just started watching an old Celebrity Masterchef on Netflix which I hadn't seen and Vic Reeves was one of the celebs except they kept calling him Jim which made me very confused. Apparently his real name is Jim Moir. Am I alone in not knowing this?

Everything makes sense now. I saw vic reeves in something on TV. (Corrie maybe?) and then the credits referred to him as Jim Moir so I thought I had mistaken him for Vic reeves but he was so like him I thought it was such an uncanny resemblance!

He was on Who Do You Think You Are? on telly a while ago - I found out his name was Jim Moir on that.

Exactly Smallsteps88 when he came on I thought oh Vic Reeves. Then they called him Jim and I looked closer at the screen and thought wow, I don't know who that bloke is but he is Vic Reeves' double!

Then i googled Jim Moir and it was Vic Reeves!

It's actually Graham Christopher Collins.
He liked to be called Chris.
His stage name Frank Skinner was after a bloke on his dad's darts team.
Chris was my A level English teacher at Halesowen College in the early nineties when he started doing stand up. He was also my neighbour. I went to loads of his early gigs.
Elton is Reginald Dwight and Dylan is Robert Zimmerman. He named himself after Dylan Thomas.

I think most people in showbusiness have a name that isn't their real one. Apart from anything else, in Britain Equity doesn't allow you to register with the same name as someone else on their books, and presumably it's the same with the American actors' union. Also, it separates the public self from the private self. After all, John Wayne's real first name was Marion.

When I've wanted to conceal my identity I've been known to use my cat's name :-)
