And why?

UK only

(I'm looking for ideas)

I'd have to live in half my house.

South of London

Mooserp · 17/08/2020 14:40

Maybe I also need to add the requirement that it needs to be a whole house 😆

Where I live now. I like it here and I would only need £200k for a lovely property.

If I didn't have DS to consider I'd buy a nice apartment in Liverpool city centre.

RoseMartha · 17/08/2020 14:47

Cornwall

Toddlerteaplease · 17/08/2020 14:49

Liverpool here too. Or York!

unmarkedbythat · 17/08/2020 14:50

Levenshulme.

Because I was living there quite happily and now it has been taken over by gentrifiers and rents and house prices are consequently stupid and I want to buy a house right in the middle of the area the most annoying gentrifying newcomers live in and thwart their plans to make it The New Fucking Chorlton.

Nat6999 · 17/08/2020 14:52

Not far from where I live now, £300k would buy me a very large semi or a fairly new 4 bed detached on a small private estate on the fringe of the council estate I live on now.

Pipandmum · 17/08/2020 14:54

Can't think as that is nowhere near enough to get even a studio where I'd like to live (Fulham). I could get a nice semi near where I live now but as I'm in a big detached with pool (would get a one bed in fulham for its value) it wouldn't make sense. Mind you if I could add £300,000 to what I've got I might get a two bed in Fulham!

JoJoSM2 · 17/08/2020 14:55

I’d just downsize to a flat in my part of London.

GreyGardens88 · 17/08/2020 14:56

Malton - Next to the Howardian Hills number 1 place to live in the North according to The Times

JoJoSM2 · 17/08/2020 14:57

@Pipandmum 300k would probably get you into a council tower block in Battersea. Close enough to Fulham?

Londonmummy66 · 17/08/2020 14:57

If I wanted to live here it would have to be a houseboat I'm afraid....

Everythingmagnolia · 17/08/2020 14:57

I'm originally from Wirral and you could buy a lovely house for that money. We move around a lot with my DH's job, but would love to settle in Northumberland eventually, most likely Hexham or Morpeth.

Ihaveoflate · 17/08/2020 14:59

About a mile or so from where I live now

Yesyoudoknowme · 17/08/2020 15:01

Somerset. Really nice house for that kind of money...

GreyGardens88 · 17/08/2020 15:01

I've had a look on Rightmove and the 2 bed terraces are cheap as chips in Levenshulme
Anxietea · 17/08/2020 15:01

Depends on what you're after! I live in London and I've traveled extensively around the UK for work. I've not been anywhere which has made me want to leave London and live there, despite some eye-wateringly cheap houses. The city is important to me and I find most other cities underwhelming.

However, if I wanted to live by the sea it would be Falmouth. Faux-country would be Bath. I also quite liked Canterbury.

Which is probably great if you need a 2 bed terrace but less so if you need a minimum of 3 bedrooms.

unmarkedbythat · 17/08/2020 15:06

Also, £140-150k for a small 2 bed terrace is not what I'd call cheap as chips, and certainly isn't cheap in terms of what Leve used to be like as little as 3 or 4 years ago :(

lurker101 · 17/08/2020 15:08

For that budget and to get a house I would go for Bournemouth, you can just about get a house in an ok part of town for that, and I had many happy years in Bournemouth

Holothane · 17/08/2020 15:11

Llandudno like a shot.

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 17/08/2020 15:18

Somewhere cheap and remote.

sugarbum · 17/08/2020 15:18

well I couldn't afford our house on that. But to be fair we can't afford this house full stop :)
I would remain in our town though as I love the location. Feels like a village, and is close enough to bigger cities to not feel like we're in the middle of nowhere. Godmanchester.
There are many properties about for 300k. Depends on what you want though. type of property, number of rooms. 300k would get you a 2 to 3 bed listed cottage, or a new build 3 bed semi detatched.

Anxietea · 17/08/2020 15:22

Bournemouth is expensive! £300k wouldn't take you far. BIL lives there and the nice areas aren't far off London prices. The affordable areas have a lot of social and delinquency problems, plus assaults on women seem to be drastically increasing recently. This might be partly because of the lockdown though, who knows.

Lochroy · 17/08/2020 15:23

If the only consideration was a nice house in a nice area, then Morayshire or Nairnshire.
