UK only

(I'm looking for ideas)

@Anxietea yeah it’s more expensive than a lot of other places, but the beach definitely makes it worth it for me

Chicchicchicchiclana · 17/08/2020 15:26

I'm not sure there are many places you can get a 3 bed house for £300,000 in SE England?

WiltedWillows · 17/08/2020 15:39

Whitby, simply stunning quaint fishing village with a lot of history

Trashtara · 17/08/2020 15:40

I'd buy a nice 3 bed in South Cumbria. But it depends on what your needs are.

JoJoSM2 · 17/08/2020 15:44

@Chicchicchicchiclana

You can get a 3 bed house in London for 300k. And a lot of the SE too.

Sophiafour · 17/08/2020 15:55

Northumberland or Scotland. In a town with public transport links and not too far from the nearest hospital. And not one of the soulless new housing estates, somewhere with a bit of character.

Mogtheforgetfulmum · 17/08/2020 16:10

You could get somewhere beautiful in Northumberland for that- somewhere like Alnwick or Morpeth

Babymamamama · 17/08/2020 16:15

Depends if i had to work or not..... but let's say I was retiring with that housing budget I'd love to live in Pembrokeshire or anywhere welsh really otherwise Herefordshire or Shropshire. Anywhere quiet with good views more fresh air and less traffic than where I am now.

bumblingalongslowly · 17/08/2020 20:22

Frome or surrounding villages.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/08/2020 20:25

Kent

Tfoot75 · 17/08/2020 20:28

Where I live now - standard price for a 4 bed detached in my village at the mo. Luckily for me c60% more than it cost us 9 years ago.

Reedwarbler · 17/08/2020 21:25

Forest of Dean

DarkMintChocolate · 17/08/2020 21:47

We couldn’t buy a house here for £300k, afaik. DS bought a 3 bedroom ex LA terrace March 2019 for £350k. He says they are going for £425k now.

PercyKirke · 17/08/2020 22:14

Nowhere I want to live has property for that price :-(

FizzyPink · 17/08/2020 22:18

Where in London can you get a 3 bedroom house for 300k?
1 bedroom flats on our road go for that and we’re a good 20 minute train into central London

JoJoSM2 · 17/08/2020 22:27

@Turnedouttoes there are some very cheap houses in East London, eg Dagenham or Romford.

20mins from central London doesn’t sound that far? Zone 4? Unless you’re on a quick like in the commuter belt.

FizzyPink · 17/08/2020 22:32

Ahh right okay, I’d definitely count Dagenham and Romford as Essex rather than London.

tywysoges · 17/08/2020 22:33

Vale of Glamorgan or near. I love living here!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 17/08/2020 22:35

£300k and I get to live in my two bed flat on the south coast / new forest

XFPW · 17/08/2020 22:41

I’d stay in NI. You couldn’t buy our house for that, but we have a large 5 bed (we’re a large family) in a very sought after area. We could have spent £200k less if we’d only needed a 4 bed, been prepared to go a little further out of town/away from the beach (5min car journey rather than 5min walk) or if we’d gone to a cheaper part of the country.

The big advantage of NI is no school zones. We have excellent schools both at primary and post-primary level. Many of our grammars are outstanding (not just academically but in terms of resources and facilities - they are on a par with private schools in mainland UK), and the vast majority of our non-selective post primaries are excellent too. Because we don’t have school zones you can choose the area to live in that works for you, and still choose the right school and have the same chance as anyone else at getting in.

goose1964 · 17/08/2020 23:09

I'd go home, South Wales although the village is not a cheap place I could still buy a 3 bedroom house.

Skyliner001 · 17/08/2020 23:16

Northumberland

Blossomorange · 17/08/2020 23:22

Norwich! It’s a beautiful place, close to some of England’s best countryside. Just lacks in multiculturalism a fair bit.

KenAdams · 17/08/2020 23:48

Newcastle

jessstan2 · 17/08/2020 23:52

Would be lucky to get a one bed flat around where I live. However, £300k would be a hefty deposit on a decent house.
